Radiant floor heating systems with capillary tubes are energy saving systems in which hot water is circulated into capillary tube with a small diameter. In this study, the heating performance of capillary tube system is investigated in an experimental study and a simulation model. The results of the study showed that, the capillary tube radiant floor heating system maintains a more stable floor surface temperature in comparison a PB pipe system. In terms of energy consumption, the capillary tube radiant floor heating system proved to be more efficient than the PB pipe heating system at $40^{\circ}C$ of low temperature hot water supply. The difference between water temperature and room temperature can be held low for heating which saves energy. Low temperature radiant floor heating system with capillary tubes have significant advantages such as health improvement, low energy cost, optimum use of heat source(boiler) and higher operational efficiency.
Apartment balcony has been indiscreetly remodeled since the government permitted remodeling on January 2006. But remodeled balcony has a few problems such as increase of heating energy, surface condensation and cold draft. The reason of thermal problem is mainly caused by the window system in a extended balcony. The purpose of this study is to analyze heating and cooling energy and propose the efficient window types for the extended balcony area of a apartment building. 4 types of window system which have fairly high U value in Korea are investigated as follows ; double clear glass, double low-e glass, triple clear glass and triple low-e glass. Comparing double clear 91ass with double low-e glass, triple clear glass and triple low-e glass, simulation results show that 10%, 7% and 15% saving of total primary energy can be expected.
The motion estimation which requires huge computation consumes large power in a video encoder. Although a number of fast-search algorithms are proposed to reduce the power consumption, the smaller the computation, the worse the performance they have. In this paper, we propose an architecture that a low energy management scheme can be applied with several fast-search algorithm. In addition. we show that ECVH, a software scheduling scheme which dynamically changes the search algorithm, the operating frequency, and the supply voltage using the remaining slack time within given power-budget, can be applied to the architecture, and show that the power consumption can be reduced.
Phase Change Memory(PCM) with low power consumption and high integration attracts attention as a next generation nonvolatile memory replacing DRAM. However, there is a problem that PCM has long latency and high energy consumption due to the writing operation. The PCM & DRAM hybrid memory structure is a fruitful structure that can overcome the disadvantages of such PCM. However, the page replacement algorithm is important, because these structures use two memory of different characteristics. The purpose of this document is to effectively manage pages that can be referenced in memory, taking into account the characteristics of DRAM and PCM. In order to manage these pages, this paper proposes an page replacement algorithm based on frequently accessed and recently paged. According to our simulation, the proposed algorithm for the DRAM&PCM hybrid can reduce the energy-delay product by around 10%, compared with Clock-DWF and CLOCK-HM.
In this study it was evaluated that hybrid air conditioning and ventilation system to reduce energy consumption and keep on comfortable indoor environment in an underground shopping center. Room temperature by hybrid HAVC system was controled as $1.8{\sim}2.1^{\circ}C$ low and indoor humidity was controled as $4.1{\sim}5.0%RH$ low, and response was fast in $2.0{\sim}2.5$ times compared with conventional system. And also transportation efficiency of hybrid HVAC system was improved in about 27%, and total energy consumption rate of hybrid HVAC system is decreased in 16% compared with conventional system.
Entering in the time of high oil price, seriousness of an energy effect sector has given a huge impact and the importance of energy is growing. Especially, building energy occupying 24% of total demand of energy is expected to be possible to reduce energy demand more than other section. To reduce the building energy consumption, this study analyzes function and thermal performance of Super window by heat experimental apparatus. Super window is a 2-track low-e glazing window for high insulation efficiency. By applying the results of this experiment to building energy efficience rating tool, this study compares energy efficiency rates depending on a region.-Jeju, South, Central. And it shows how much does Super window reduce Building energy consumption.

An active flow control technique using blowing and distributed suction on low Reynolds airfoil is investigated. Simultaneous blowing and distributed suction can recirculate the jet flow mass, and reduce the penalty to propulsion system due to avoiding dumping the jet mass flow. Energy is injected into main flow by blowing on the suction surface, and the low energy boundary flow mass is removed by distributed suction, thus the flow separation can be successfully suppressed. Aerodynamic lift to drag ratio is improved significantly using the flow control technique, and the energy consumption is quite low.
The objective of this study was to develop a model for safe work load based on a physiological model of metabolic energy of manual material handling tasks. Fifteen male subjects voluntarily participated in this study. Lifting activities with four different weights, 0, 8, 16, 24kg, and four different working frequencies (2, 5, 8, 11 lifts/min) for a lifting range from floor to the knuckle height of 76cm were considered. Oxygen consumption rates and heart rates were measured during the performance of sixteen different lifting activities. Simplified predictive equations for estimating the oxygen consumption rate and the heart rate were developed. The oxygen consumption rate and the heart rate could be expressed as a function of task variables; frequency and the weight of the load, and a personal variable, body weight, and their interactions. The coefficients of determination ($r^2$) of the model were 0.9777 and 0.9784, respectively, for the oxygen consumption rate and the heart rate. The model of oxygen consumption rate was modified to estimate the work load for the given oxygen consumption rate. The overall absolute percent errors of the validation of this equation for work load with the original data set was 39.03%. The overall absolute percent errors were much larger than this for the two models based on the US population. The models for the oxygen consumption rate and for the work load developed in this study work better than the two models based on the US population. However, without considering the biomechanical approach, the developed model for the work load and the two US models are not recommended to estimate the work loads for low frequent lifting activities.
