  • As ship-based tourism increases, safe sailing and management are necessary to prevent maritime accidents. Because external rescue support cannot arrive rapidly in the case of ship-related accidents, the initial response is very important for damage minimization. Further, for secondary damage prevention, it is necessary to accurately determine passenger positions. In this paper, considering the characteristics of a ship, the enhanced-Zigbee(e-Zigbee) position determination technology (PDT) is applied, which improved upon the Zigbee PDT by having advantages such as low power consumption and smaller size. According to user needs, a low-cost and high-precision passenger positioning tag and access point(AP) is provided. A ship testbed that yields improved positioning accuracy based on a performance evaluation is constructed.

  • Spontaneous ignition is not only severe economic damage but also a typical plant damage caused by harmful gases generated during the fire. Because coal is porous, it causes oxygen to be absorbed in the amount of oxygen per unit weight of oxygen, resulting in low humidity and low thermal conductivity. The cause and effect of spontaneous ignition are very complex, so it is difficult to prevent it beforehand and once it is difficult to digest it, it is difficult to digest it. This study examines structural safety by conducting a structural analysis of the cooling ball system to prevent spontaneous combustion of coal stockpile plants and external pressures.

  • The problem of elderly people with weak physical health has become a very important issue in the aging society. Elderly people with very low judgment and decision-making skills often falls because of the degradation of the strength and balance. Due to the fall triggered off fractures, parenchyma damage, and casualties, generally fast emergency treatment is needed. In this paper, an automatic fall detection system consisting of a triaxial accelerometer and tilt sensor. Using the fall system, the performance of the system was analyzed in many situations. The experimental results showed more than 92% analytical skills.

  • Accurate detection and classification of faults on transmission lines is vitally important. In this respect, many different types of faults occur, such as inter alia low impedance faults (LIF) and high impedance faults (HIF). The latter in particular pose difficulties for the commonly employed conventional overcurrent and distance relays, and if undetected, can cause damage to expensive equipment, threaten life and cause fire hazards. Although HIFs are far less common than LIFs, it is imperative that any protection device should be able to satisfactorily deal with both HIFs and LIFs. Because of the randomness and asymmetric characteristics of HIFs, their modeling is difficult and numerous papers relating to various HIF models have been published. In this paper, the model of HIFs in transmission lines is accomplished using the characteristics of a ZnO arrester, which is then implemented within the overall transmission system model based on the electromagnetic transients program (EMTP). This paper proposes an algorithm for fault detection and classification for both LIFs and HIFs using Adaptive Network-based Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS). The inputs into ANFIS are current signals only based on Root-Mean-Square (RMS) values of 3-phase currents and zero sequence current. The performance of the proposed algorithm is tested on a typical 154 kV Korean transmission line system under various fault conditions. Test results demonstrate that the ANFIS can detect and classify faults including LIFs and HIFs accurately within half a cycle.

  • We report on characteristics of specially designed inductively-coupled-plasma chemical vapor deposition (ICP-CVD) system for top-emitting organic light emitting diodes (TOLEDs). Using high-density plasma on the order of $10^{11}$ electrons/$cm^3$ generated by linear-type antennas connected in parallel and specially designed substrate cooling system, a 100 nm-thick transparent $SiN_{x}$ passivation layer was deposited on thin Mg-Ag cathode layer at substrate temperature below $50\;^{\circ}C$ without a noticeable plasma damage. In addition, substrate-mask chucking system equipped with a mechanical mask aligner enabled us to pattern the $SiN_x$ passivation layer without conventional lithography processes. Even at low substrate temperature, a $SiN_x$ passivation layer prepared by ICP-CVD shows a good moisture resistance and transparency of $5{\times}10^{-3}g/m^2/day$ and 92 %, respectively. This indicates that the ICP-CVD system is a promising methode to substitute conventional plasma enhanced CVD (PECVD) in thin film passivation process.

  • Modal parameters are widely used in bridge damage detection, finite element model (FEM) updating and design optimization. However, the conventional modal identification approaches require large number of sensors, enormous data processing workload, but normally result in mode shapes with low accuracy. This paper proposes a modal identification method of time-varying vehicle-bridge system using a single sensor. Firstly, the essential physical relationship between the instantaneous frequency of the vehicle-bridge system and the bridge mode shapes are derived. Subsequently, based on the synchroextracting transform, the instantaneous frequency of the system is tracked through the dynamic response collected by a single sensor, and further the modal parameters are estimated by using the derived physical relationship. Then numerical and experimental examples are conducted to examine the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method. Finally, the modal parameters identified by the proposed method are applied in bridge FEM updating. The results manifest that the proposed method identifies the modal parameters with high accuracy via a single sensor, and can provide reliable data for the FEM updating.

  • The present study was conducted to elucidate whether the expression level of poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) is related to the ultraviolet radiation (UV)-induced apoptosis. After treatment of the mammalian cell lines HeLa S3 and Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) with 50 J/m2 UV, induction of apoptosis was determined by several means during 24 h post-incubation. Incidence of apoptosis was much lower in CHO than HeLa S3 cells based on the percentage of apoptotic cells in terms of morphological changes in nucleus or direct counting of viable cells and qualitative or quantitative DNA fragmentation. Interestingly, when the expression level of PARP was measured by western blotting, the amounts of PARP that was retained at each time point inversely correlated with the incidences of apoptosis in these cells. Concomitant with generation of the 85 kDa fragment, 116 kDa PARP disappeared in HeLa S3 within 6 h after UV treatment, whereas a fair amounts of 116 kDa band was still retained in CHO cells at 36 h post-incubation. This inverse relationship was also observed in the adaptive response system, in which cells weve treated with a high dose of UV after pretreatment with a low dose. As expected, typical adaptive responses appeared in CHO cells but not in HeLa cells, showing greater cell viability and lesser DNA fragmentation. During the adaptive response in CHO cells, PARP was expressed at much higher level compared to the single, high dose-treated cells. Interestingly, even though PARP was induced at 6 h post-incubation In both cell types, its expression was more prominent in CHO cells. Thus, our data indicate that the retained level of intact PARP against UV damage inversely correlates with incidence of apoptosis in mammalian cells, and also suggest that a machinery to protect the PARP degradation against UV damage exists in CHO but not in HeLa S3 cells.

  • Wave induced vibrations increase the fatigue and extreme loading, but this is normally neglected in design. The industry view on this is changing. Wave induced vibrations are often divided into springing and whipping, and their relative contribution to fatigue and extreme loading varies depending on ship design. When it comes to displacement vessels, the contribution from whipping on fatigue and extreme loading is particularly high for certain container vessels. A large modern design container vessel with high bow flare angle and high service speed has been considered. The container vessel was equipped with a hull monitoring system from a recognized supplier of HMON systems. The vessel has been operating between Asia and Europe for a few years and valuable data has been collected. Also model tests have been carried out of this vessel to investigate fatigue and extreme loading, but model tests are often limited to head seas. For the full scale measurements, the correlation between stress data and wind data has been investigated. The wave and vibration damage are shown versus heading and Beaufort strength to indicate general trends. The wind data has also been compared to North Atlantic design environment. Even though it has been shown that the encountered wind data has been much less severe than in North Atlantic, the extreme loading defined by IACS URS11 is significantly exceeded when whipping is included. If whipping may contribute to collapse, then proper seamanship may be useful in order to limit the extreme loading. The vibration damage is also observed to be high from head to beam seas, and even present in stern seas, but fatigue damage in general is low on this East Asia to Europe trade.

  • The noise emitted from an excavator has long been a cause of environmental disputes, while causing displeasure to the nearby residents. So, the ministry of environment adopted the construction machinery noise labeling system to encourage the construction machinery manufacturing companies to develop the low noise construction machinery voluntarily. But, as the quality of life improves, a growing number of people desire the comfortable and quite environment to live in. Under the situation, noise from the construction machinery has been a major cause for stress and complaints. When the noise dispute happened in the construction site, the sound pressure level of the construction machinery like a excavator was measured at the lot boundary of the noise victim's residence to judge how much noise damage occur. But the sound pressure level of the construction machinery is measured differently according to the acoustic environment of construction site and the measuring position, respectively, which makes it difficulty to judge whether the noise damage occur or not. As the sound power level of noise source is not affected by the acoustic environment of construction site and the measuring position, if we use the information of the sound power level, it will be easy to judge whether the noise damage occur and to establish the soundproofing measures. Therefore, we derive the sound power level regression model of the excavator to judge whether the noise emitted from the excavator damages to residents near the construction site. Also, the sound power level regression model of the excavator drawn in this paper will help construction companies to plan the noise reduction program in the construction sites.
