  • In this paper, we present the performance of iterative decoding with a Turbo decoder and a M-ary QAM(Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) demapper. The demappers are designed with Max-Log-MAP algorithm and it's approximated one. In addition, we provide implementing block for the approximated algorithm. From the results of computer simulations, the approximated algorithm of the Max-Log-MAP has little bit worse than the Max-Log-MAP but suggests low complexity for practical implementation.

  • Unequal Error Protection(UP) is reasonable scheme in transmission of compressed video with low bit rate. Because it offers the error correction ability each other data according to the Source Significance Information. Hence it can also be flexible to the given channel environment on the video transmission. This paper propose the joint source channel coding through the UEP in consideration of the hierarchical structure of H.263+ based video and the influence of the transmission error. It especially proposes the error-resilient video transmission technique which can reduce complexity of channel coder & decoder by partitioning the video data with a frame. As the result of the proposed algorithm, it is possible to increase the quality of reconstructed video in the error environment without creating additional bits.

  • A new two-step soft output Viterbi algorithm (SOVA) for turbo decoder is proposed and analyzed in 7his paper. Due to the algebraic structure of the proposed algorithm, slate and branch metrics can be obtained wish parallel processing using matrix arithmetic. As a result, the number of multiplications to calculate state metrics of each stage and total memory size can be decreased tremendously. Therefore, it can be expected that the proposed algebraic two-step SOVA is suitable for applications in which low computational complexity and memory size are essential.

  • The turbo code appropriate to IMT-2000 is known to have a good performance whenever the size of frame increases. But it is not appropriate to a sort of video service to need real time because of decoding complexity and long delay time by the size of frame. Therefore this paper proposes decoding decision algorithm of short frame in which soft output is weighted according to iteration number in turbo decoder. Performance of the proposed algorithm is analysed in the AWGN channel when short length of frame is 100, 256, 640. As the result. it is appeared that the proposed decoding decision algorithm has improved in BER other than in the existing MAP decoding algorithm.

  • In this paper, we propose an accumulation encoding scheme based on double random phase encryption (DRPE) for multiple-image transmission. The proposed scheme can be used for a low-complexity DRPE system due to the simple structure of the accumulation encoder and decoder. For accumulation encoding of multiple images, all of the previously encrypted data are added, and hence the accumulation encoding can improve the security of the DRPE-encrypted data. We present a scheme for encryption and decryption for DRPE-based accumulation encoding, and a method for accumulation encoding and decoding. Finally, simulation results verify that the DRPE-based accumulation encoding scheme for multiple images is powerful in terms of data security.

  • This paper proposes a new watermarking algorithm to embed watermarks in thr process of sample adaptive offsets (SAO) for high efficiency video coding (HEVC) compressed videos. The proposed method embeds two-bit watermark into the SAO offsets for each coding tree unit (CTU). To minimize visual quality degradation caused by embedding watermark, watermark bits are embedded into SAO offset depending on the SAO types of block. Furthermore, the embedded watermark can be extracted by simply adding four offsets and checking their least significant bits (LSB) at the decoder side. The experimental results show that the proposed method achieves 0.3% BD-rate increase without much visual quality degradation. Two-bit watermark for each CTU is embedded for more bit watermarking. In addition, the proposed method requires negligible computational load for watermark insertion and extraction.

  • In this paper, a cooperative relaying protocol called soft-decision-and-forward (SDF) with multiple antennas in each node is introduced. SDF protocol exploits the soft decision source symbol values from the received signal at the relay node. For orthogonal transmission (OT), orthogonal codes including Alamouti code are used and for non-orthogonal transmission (NT), distributed space-time codes are designed by using a quasi-orthogonal space-time block code. The optimal maximum likelihood (ML) decoders for the proposed protocol with low decoding complexity are proposed. For OT, the ML decoders are derived as symbolwise decoders while for NT, the ML decoders are derived as pairwise decoders. It can be seen through simulations that SDF protocol outperforms AF protocol for both OT and NT.

  • Portable multi-media products which can service the highest audio-quality by using lossless audio codec has been released and the international lossless codecs, MPEG-4 audio lossless coding(ALS) and MPEG-4 scalable lossless coding(SLS), were standardized by MPEG in 2006. The simple profile of MPEG-4 ALS, it supports up to stereo, was defined by MPEG in 2009. The lossless audio codec should have low-complexity in stereo to be widely used in portable multi-media products. But the previous researches of MPEG-4 ALS have focused on an improvement of compression ratio, a complexity reduction in multi-channels coding, and a selection of linear prediction coefficients(LPCs) order. In this paper, the complexity and compression ratio of MPEG-4 ALS encoder is analyzed in simple profile of MPEG-4 ALS, the method to reduce a complexity of MPEG-4 ALS encoder is proposed. Based on an analysis of complexity of MPEG-4 ALS encoder, the complexity of short-term prediction filter of MPEG-4 ALS encoder is reduced by using the low-complexity filter that is proposed in previous research to reduce the complexity of MPEG-4 ALS decoder. Also, we propose a joint coding decision method, it reduces the complexity and keeps the compression ratio of MPEG-4 ALS encoder. In proposed method, the operation of joint coding is decided based on the relation between cross-correlation of residual and compression ratio of joint coding. The performance of MPEG-4 ALS encoder that has the method and low-complexity filter is evaluated by using the MPEG-4 ALS conformance test file and normal music files. The complexity of MPEG-4 ALS encoder is reduced by about 24% by comparing with MPEG-4 ALS reference encoder, while the compression ratio by the proposed method is comparable to MPEG-4 ALS reference encoder.

  • Conventional rate control (RC) schemes for H.264 video coding usually regulate output bit rate to match channel bandwidth by adjusting quantization parameter (QP) at fixed full frame rate, and the passive frame skipping to avoid buffer overflow usually occurs when scene changes or high motions exist in video sequences especially at low bit rate, which degrades spatial-temporal quality and causes jerky effect. In this paper, an active content adaptive frame skipping scheme is proposed instead of passive methods, which skips subjectively trivial frames by structural similarity (SSIM) measurement between the original frame and the interpolated frame via motion vector (MV) copy scheme. The saved bits from skipped frames are allocated to coded key ones to enhance their spatial quality, and the skipped frames are well recovered based on MV copy scheme from adjacent key ones at the decoder side to maintain constant frame rate. Experimental results show that the proposed active SSIM-based frameskip scheme acquires better and more consistent spatial-temporal quality both in objective (PSNR) and subjective (SSIM) sense with low complexity compared to classic fixed frame rate control method JVT-G012 and prior objective metric based frameskip method.
