In this paper, we propose an improved statistical model-based voice activity detection algorithm and threshold update method. We first improve signal-to-noise ratio by using speech enhancement preprocessing algorithm combined power subtraction method and matched filter, then apply it to LLR test optimum decision rule for improving the performance even in low SNR conditions. And we propose an adaptive threshold update method that was not concerned in any papers. We also perform extensive computer simulations to demonstrate the performance improvement of the proposed VAD algorithm employing the proposed speech enhancement preprocessing algorithm and adaptive threshold update method under various background noise environments. Finally we verify our results by comparing ITU-T G.729 Annex B.

Satellite communication systems including the DVB-S2 (Digital Video Broadcasting - Satellite Version 2) system require operations under low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and large frequency offset values, and the initial frame synchronization process necessitates a robust correlation method. While a variety of conventional correlation structures exist for the initial synchronization, each method has different characteristics and performance in different channel environments. In this paper, we propose new correlation methods which exhibit enhanced performance in low SNR and large frequency offsets, and analyze their performance. The proposed methods use the magnitude sum and vector sum of extended differential correlation values, to maximize the correlation between the received signal and the synchronization sequence by using the spanned differential correlation result. The magnitude sum correlation method has better performance compared to conventional methods including the approximated ML (Maximum likelihood) method for SNR values below 4 dB with or without frequency offsets. The vector sum correlation method has improved performance over the magnitude sum method for channels with relatively small frequency offsets.

In this paper, a single-bit 3rd-order feedforward delta sigma modulator is proposed for audio applications. The proposed modulator is based on a class-C inverter for low voltage and power applications. For the high-precision requirement, the class-C inverter with regulated cascode structure increases its DC gain and acts as a low-voltage subthreshold amplifier. The proposed Class-C inverter-based modulator is designed and simulated in 180-nm CMOS process. With no performance loss and a low supply voltage compatibility, the proposed class-C inverter-based switched-capacitor modulator achieves high power efficiency. This design achieves an signal-to-noise-and-distortion ratio (SNDR) of 93.9 dB, an signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of 108 dB, an spurious-free dynamic range (SFDR) of 102 dB, and a dynamic range (DR) of 102 dB at a signal bandwidth of 20 kHz and a sampling frequency of 4 MHz, while only using 280 μW of power consumption from a 0.8-V power supply.

Blind interference alignment (BIA) scheme has demonstrated a way of interference alignment (IA) without channel state information at transmitter (CSIT). While it shows superior performance in high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) regime stemming from the maximal degrees of freedom (DoF) gain, BIA scheme achieves inferior sum-rate performance in low SNR regime. This paper proposes a dual-mode transmission strategy which switches between single user (SU) SISO with receive mode selection and the BIA scheme depending upon the range of SNR. First, we derive a closed-form achievable rate for each transmission-mode. Secondly, we propose a low-complex transmission-mode selection algorithm.
We aims to perform comparative analysis on the dose area and image qualities varying on the slice thickness when using Automatic Exposure Controller (AEC) and manual exposure; thus, it wants to suggest a measure to reduce exposure dose by setting the optimal examination condition for each slice thickness. The method was to set the thickness as Thin, Normal, and Heavy adult and evaluate the dose area, spatial resolution, low contrast resolution, Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) and Contrast to Noise Ratio (CNR) according to each slice thickness by using the AEC and the manual exposure controller. The dose area according to each slice thickness all increased both when using the AEC and the manual exposure. However, the manual exposure showed lower dose area product than the AEC. Spatial resolutions and low contrast resolutions were all observed to be higher than the evaluation standard. Also, the SNR and CNR of each thickness all increased when using the AEC. When using the manual exposure, SNR and CNR increased in all cases other than the Heavy Adult. Consequently, the Thin and Normal Adult showed dose reduction about 2 times when using the manual exposure controller, while ensuring the image quality. Heavy adult was able to maintain good image quality by using AEC.

In this paper we introduce the correlation-aided distributed sample acquisition (CDSA) scheme for fast cell search in IMT-2000 W-CDMA cellular system. The proposed scheme incorporates the state symbol correlation process into the comparison-correction based synchronization process of the original DSA scheme to enable fast acquisition even under very poor channel environment. for its realization, each mobile station (MS) has to store in its memory a set of state sample sequences. which are determined by the long-period scrambling sequences used in the system and the sampling interval of the state samples. CDSA based cell search is carried out in two stages : First, the MS first acquires the slot timing by using the primary synch code (PSC) and then identifies the igniter code which conveys the state samples of the current cell . Secondly. the MS identifies the scrambling code and frame timing by taking the comparison-correction based synchronization approach and, if the identification is not done satisfactorily within preset time. it initiates the state symbol correlation process which correlates the received symbol sequence with the pre-stored state sample sequences for a successful identification. As the state symbol SNR is relatively high. the state symbol correlation process enables reliable synchronization even in very low chip-SNR environment. Simulation results show that the proposed CDSA scheme outperforms the 3GPP 3-step approach, requiring the signal power of about 7 dB less for achieving the same acquisition time performance in low-SNR environments. Furthermore, it turns out very robust in the typical synchronization environment where large frequency offset exists.
We have fabricated the low noise liquid helium(LHe) dewar with a different shape of thermal shield to apply the 64-channel SQUID(Superconducting Quantum Interference Device) gradiometer. The first shape of thermal shield was made of an aluminum plate with a wide width of 100 mm slit and the other shape was modified with a narrow width of 20 mm slit. The two types of dewars were estimated by comparing the thermal noise and the signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) of magnetocardiography(MCG) using the $1^{st}$ order SQUID gradiometer system cooled each dewar. The white noise was different as a point of the dewar. The noise was increased as close as the edge of dewar, and also increased at the thermal shield with the more wide width slit. The white noise of the dewar with thermal shield of 100 mm slit was 6.5 fT/$Hz^{1/2}$ at the center of dewar and 25 fT/$Hz^{1/2}$ at the edge, and the white noise of the other one was 3.5 - 7 fT/$Hz^{1/2}$. We measured the MCG using 64-channel SQUID gradiometer cooled at each LHe dewar and compared the SNR of MCG signal. The SNR was improved of 10 times at the LHe dewar with a modified thermal shield.
In this paper, we propose a blind equalization method for advanced terrestrial digital multimedia broadcasting (AT-DMB) systems which use hierarchical modulation. The AT-DMB system adopts hierarchical 16-ary quadrature amplitude modulation (16-QAM) to ensure backward-compatibly with the differential quadrature phase shift keying (DQPSK) signal of the legacy terrestrial digital multimedia broadcasting (T-DMB) systems and to support higher transmission rate. Due to the hierarchical modulation, the conventional T-DMB signal and the additional signal have different error rate at same signal to noise ratio (SNR). By weighting the decided symbols differently according to the reliability of the symbols, i.e., high priority symbol with low error rate and low priority symbol with high error rate, we can improve the channel estimation accuracy. In this paper, we analyze SNR loss by hierarchical modulation and confirm it through simulations. Moreover, through simulations, we verify that the proposed weighting method improve BER compared to the no-weighting method.

Despite enormous performance gain with multi-antenna transmission in the single cell environment, its gain diminishes out in the multi-cell environment due to interference. It is also very hard to solve the efficient downlink beamforming with low complexity in multi-cell environment. First, this paper shows that the asymptotically sum rate optimal downlink beamformings at low and high SNR are maximum ratio transmit (MRT) and zero forcing (ZF) beamforming in the multi-cell system, respectively. Secondly, exploiting the asymptotically optimal downlink beamforming, we develop simple two types of near optimal downlink beamforming schemes having the form of minimum mean squared error (MMSE) beamforming obtained from the dual uplink problem. For each type, three different subclasses are also considered depending on the computational complexity. The simulation results show that the proposed near optimum algorithms provide the trade-off between the complexity and the performance.

This paper describes interferometer direction finder which measures the angle of arrival based on calculation of the phase difference of received radio signal from different antennas. Modern Electronic Warfare direction finder uses digital phase difference measuring techniques which have less effect on temperature variation and better performance under low Signal to Noise Ratio environment. In this paper, we analyze acceptable phase difference error for requirement of system's direction finding accuracy and introduce digital phase difference calculation techniques. We have investigated quantitative analysis on phase difference calculation according to sample number, SNR, interference injection. Through the simulation, frequency domain measurement technique is better performance than the time domain one at the environment of low SNR and interference injection. Proposed method can be used to determine the performance of interferometer direction finder.
