  • New soft recovery drive which can alleviate the loss due to reverse recovery of diode is proposed. By using this drive, the reverse current of the diode is minimized and stabilized because there is inner local feedback loop between the turn-on current of the power MOSFET and the reverse recovery current of the diode. The loss and EMI noise can be considerably reduced in this way. Brief operational principle and experimental results are included to verify the usefulness.

  • When an earthquake occurs, the severity of damage is determined by natural factors such as the magnitude of the earthquake, the epicenter distance, soil properties, and type of the structures in the affected area, as well as the socio-economic factors such as the population, disaster prevention measures, and economic power of the community. This study evaluated the direct economic loss due to building damage and the community's recovery ability. Building damage was estimated using fragility functions due to the design earthquake by the seismic design code. The usage of the building was determined from the information in the building registrar. Direct economic loss was evaluated using the standard unit price and estimated building damage. The standard unit price was obtained from the Korean Real Estate Board. The community's recovery capacity was calculated using nine indicators selected from regional statistical data. After appropriate normalization and factor analysis, the recovery ability score was calculated through relative evaluation with neighboring cities.

  • The aim of this study is to develop economical High-Strength and High-Quality Concrete, and to assure quality control of Concrete in the field. For this purpose, Five types of Mixing Methods are examined and the relationship between slump loss and slump recovery by transport is studied. As a result, workability and strength are dependent on the Mixing Method, although the Mixing proportions are same, Also, adding admixture in the field is proposed as an alternative to consider the relationship between slump loss and slump recovery.

  • In the problem of the recovery of interblock information in balanced incomplete block designs(BIBD), it is well known that a truncated estimator dominates the untruncated estimator under mean squared error loss. This paper shows that the domination result holds universally for every nondecreasing loss function.

  • In order to increase the power density of power converters, reduction of the switching losses at high-frequency switching conditions is one of the most important issues. This paper presents a new gate drive circuit that enables the reduction of switching losses in both the Power MOSFET and the IGBT. A distinctive feature of this method is that both the turn-on loss and the turn-off loss are decreased simultaneously without using a conventional ZVS circuit, such as the quasi-resonant adjunctive circuit. Experimental results of the switching loss of both the Power MOSFET and the IGBT are shown. In addition, an energy recovery circuit suitable for use in IGBTs that can be realized by modifying the proposed gate drive circuit is also proposed. The effectiveness of both the proposed circuits was confirmed experimentally by the buck-chopper circuit.

  • We propose a lane adaptive recovery scheme for multiple lane faults in a multi-lane-based Ethernet link. In our scheme, when lane faults occur in a link, they are processed not as full link faults but as partial link faults. Our scheme provides a higher link utilization and lower packet loss rate by reusing the available lanes of the link and providing a low recovery time of under a microsecond.

  • The performance of transmission control protocol (TCP) is largely dependent upon its loss recovery. Therefore, it is a very important issue whether the packet losses may be recovered without retransmission timeout (RTO) or not. Although TCP SACK can recover multiple packet losses in a window, it cannot avoid RTO if a retransmitted packet is lost again. In order to alleviate this problem, we propose a simple change to TCP SACK, which is called TCP SACK+ in simple. We use a stochastic model to evaluate the performance of TCP SACK+, and compare it with TCP SACK. Numerical results evaluated by simulations show that SACK+ can improve the loss recovery of TCP SACK significantly in presence of random losses.

  • Idiopathic sudden sensorineural hearing loss(SNHL) is defined as a sensorineural hearing loss which develops over a period of hours or few days without a definitive causes. The etiology, prognosis, and treatment of SNHL are uncertain. We reviewed records of 76 patients to investigate the efficacy of the stellate ganglion block(SGB)in SNHL. The control group(40 patients) was managed with the medication such as hypaque, heparin, steroid, nicotinic acid, and vitamine. The SGB group(27 patients) was managed with the same medication and SGB (1~2 times/day). The efficacy of treatment was evaluated by mean dB of 500, 1000, 2000 Hz on follow up pure tone audiogram. Recovery rate above 15dB was not different between SGB and the control group (52.4 v.s. 52.0%), though SGB group has much poor prognostic factors. Recovery rate was higher in a case that was treated early. Especially, the recovery rate was 100% when SGB begins within 2 weeks from the onset. Headache and profound type of audiogram were poor prognostic factors. In conclusion, SGB within 2 weeks from the onset is recommanded to improve the recovery rate.

  • As today's networks evolve towards an If-based integrated network, the role of transmission control protocol(TCP) has been increasing as well. As a well-known issue, the performance of TCP is affected by its loss recovery mechanism that is comprised of two algorithms; fast retransmit and fast recovery. Although retransmission timeout(RTO) caused by multiple packet losses can be avoided by using selective acknowledgement(SACK) option, RTO cannot be avoided if a retransmitted packet is lost. Therefore, we propose a simple modification to make it possible for a TCP sender using SACK option to detect a lost retransmission. In order to evaluate the proposed algorithm, simulations have been performed for two scenarios where packet losses are random and correlated. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can improve TCP performance significantly.
