  • A Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) code with transition prediction model is developed and the computational results on an oscillating airfoil are compared with the experimental data for OA209 airfoil. An approximated eN method that can predict transition onset points and the length of transition region is directly applied to the RANS code. The hysteresis loop in dynamic stall is compared for the computational results using transition prediction and fully turbulent models with the experimental data. Results with transition prediction show more correlation with the experimental data than the fully turbulent computation.

  • The hypothetical protein TTC0263 of Thermus thermophilus HB27 is a thermophilic tetratricopeptide repeat (TPR)-containing protein. In the present study, the TPR region (residues 26-230) was resolved at $2.5{\AA}$ with R-factors of $R/R_{free}$ = 23.6%/28.6% $R/R_{free}=23.6%/28.6%$. TTC0263 consists of 11 helices that form five TPR units. Uniquely, it contains one atypical "extended" TPR (eTPR) unit. This comprises extended helical residues near the loop region of TTC0263, such that the helical length of eTPR is longer than that of the canonical TPR sequence. In addition, the hybrid TPR domain of TTC0263 possesses oligomer-forming characteristics. TPR domains are generally involved in forming multi-subunit complexes by interacting with each other or with other subunit proteins. The dynamic structure of TTC0263 described here goes some way to explaining how TPR domains mediate the formation of multi-subunit complexes.

  • In this paper, a quantization algorithm by which the accumulative error can be prevented is presented. In digital control systems, the quantization cannot be avoided because of the finite word length of digital computers. The error due to quantization of the computed values may be tolerable in case of directly using them. In case of using the accumulated values, the error between sum of the original values and that of the quantized values becomes larger as the number of the values to be summed increases. Such an increasing accumulative error is critical for the control of precise NC machines, robots and autonomous vehicles. To solve this problem, a quantization algorithm without the accumulative error is presented. Basically, the algorithm is based on the feedback loop by which the accumulationive of the quantization error can be prevented. The error boundness of the proposed algorithm is proven and a computer simulation is performed to show the validity of the algorithm.

  • The neutronic feasibility of typical Korean three-loop 900MWe class PWR core loaded with mixed oxide fuels for both annual and 18-month cycle strategies has been investigated as a means for spent fuel management. For this study, a method of determining equivalent plutonium content was developed under the equivalence concept which gives the same cycle length as uranium fuel. Optimal plutonium zoning within the MOX assembly was also designed with the aim of minimizing the peak md power. Conceptual core designs hate hen developed for equilibrium cycle with the following variations: annual and 18-month cycle, 1/3 and full MOX loading schemes, and typical and high moderation lattice. The analysis of key core physics parameters shows that in all cases considered satisfactory core designs seem to be feasible, though addition of control rod system and change in Technical Specification for soluble boron concentration are required for full MOX loading in order to meet the current design requirements.

  • In this paper, magnetic fields produced by lightning return strokes were investigated and analyzed Magnetic field and its derivatives were measured with two crossed loop antennas. Frequency bandwidths of the magnetic field and its derivative measuring systems are in the range of $270\;[Hz]\;{\sim}\;2.3\;[MHz]$ and $450\;[Hz]\;{\sim}\;2.5\;[MHz]$, and their response sensitivity are 128 [mV/${\mu}T$] and 4.12 [mV/nT//${\mu}s$], respectively. Signals are digitized every 500 [ns], data are automatically recorded by transient signal analyzer(Nicolet Pro. 30) having the resolution of 12 - bit and the length of 5 kilowords, and they are registered at personal computer. Magnetic field and its derivative waveforms associated with lightning return strokes were observed since the summer of 1997 at Inha University in Inchon.

  • The internal leaks of RCS pressure boundary valves may cause thermal fatigue crack because of the TASCS in RCS branch line. After experienced unisolable piping failures in several PWR plants, many studies have peformed to understand these phenomena and various methods were applied to ensure the structural integrity of piping. In this paper, the cause of unisolable piping failures and the alternatives to prevent recurrence of failure were reviewed. Also, the severity of piping failure including susceptibility of valve leaks was evaluated for the Westinghouse 2-loop plant. The length of turbulent penetration on RHR inlet piping was measured and, thermal fluid analysis and fatigue analysis was performed for this piping. As a means of ensuring the structural integrity, temperature monitoring and specialized UT and other alternatives were compared for the further application.

  • The aim of this study is to investigate the influence of the secondary fluid flow rate through GLHX on a GSHP system with vertical single U-tube type GLHXs. The COP of a GSHP system with large flow rate was lower than it with small flow rate due to large power consumption of ground loop circulating pump. It is suggested that the heat pump unit with high COP and low flow rate through the GLHX have to be selected in order to enhance the performance of the system and reduce the length of GLHX.

  • The objective of this experimental study is to investigate the hysteretic behavior of reinforced concrete piers subjected to quasi-static cyclic loads, which have been used in large numbers for railway and urban transportation facilities. Important test parameters are hoop ratio, axial load, loading type, and the behaviors f members have been evaluated through limit states of crack occurrence, yielding and ultimate state of member, ductility and load-deflection loop can be secured by considering the influence of hoop reinforcement ratio and axial load, and that plastic hinge length and ductility ar determined by the combination of the quantities of hoop reinforcement and axial load.

  • High-speed I/O channels require adaptive techniques to optimize the settings for filter tap weights at decision feedback equalization (DFE) read channels to compensate for channel inter-symbol interference (ISI) and crosstalk from multiple adjacent channels. Both ISI and crosstalk tend to vary with channel length, process, and temperature variations. Individually optimizing parameters such as those just mentioned leads to suboptimal solutions. We propose a joint optimization technique for crosstalk cancellation (XTC) at DFE to compensate for both ISI and XTC in high-speed I/O channels. The technique is used to compensate for between 15.7 dB and 19.7 dB of channel loss combined with a variety of crosstalk strengths from $60mV_{p-p}$ to $180mV_{p-p}$ adaptively, where the transmit non-return-to-zero signal amplitude is a constant $500mV_{p-p}$.
