We established a thermodynamic framework of group contribution method based on modified double lattice (MDL) model. The proposed model included the long-range interaction contribution caused by the Coulomb electrostatic forces, the middle-range interaction contribution from the indirect effects of the charge interactions and the short-range interaction from modified double lattice model. The group contribution method explained the combinatorial energy contribution responsible for the revised Flory-Huggins entropy of mixing, the van der Waals energy contribution from dispersion, the polar force, and the specific energy contribution from hydrogen bonding. We showed the solvent activities of various polymer solution systems in comparison with theoretical predictions based on experimental data. The proposed model gave a very good agreement with the experimental data.

This paper proposes a novel face detection method that finds tiny faces located at a long range even with low-resolution input images captured by a mobile robot. The proposed approach can locate extremely small-sized face regions of $12{\times}12$ pixels. We solve a tiny face detection problem by organizing a system that consists of multiple detectors including a mean-shift color tracker, short- and long-rage face detectors, and an omega shape detector. The proposed method adopts the long-range face detector that is well trained enough to detect tiny faces at a long range, and limiting its operation to only within a search region that is automatically determined by the mean-shift color tracker and the omega shape detector. By focusing on limiting the face search region as much as possible, the proposed method can accurately detect tiny faces at a long distance even with a low-resolution image, and decrease false positives sharply. According to the experimental results on realistic databases, the performance of the proposed approach is at a sufficiently practical level for various robot applications such as face recognition of non-cooperative users, human-following, and gesture recognition for long-range interaction.
This study is essential for advancing our knowledge about the interaction between long-range high-power lasers and energetic materials, with a particular emphasis on understanding the response of a 155-mm shell under various surface irradiations, taking into account external factors such as atmospheric disturbances. The analysis addresses known limitations in understanding the use of non-realistic targets and the negligence of ambient conditions. The model employs the three-dimensional level-set method, computer-aided design (CAD)-based target design, and a message-passing interface (MPI) parallelization scheme that enables rapid calculations of the complex chemical reactions of the irradiated high explosives. Important outcomes from interaction modeling include the accurate prediction of the initiation time of ignition, transient pressure, and temperature responses with the location of the initial hot spot within the shell, and the relative magnitude of noise with and without the presence of physical ambient disturbances. The initiation time of combustion was increased by approximately a factor of two with atmospheric disturbance considered, while slower heating of the target resulted in an average temperature rise of approximately 650 K and average pressure increase of approximately 1 GPa compared to the no ambient disturbance condition. The results provide an understanding of the interaction between the high-power laser and energetic target at a long distance in an atmospheric condition.
A powerful interaction mechanism is one of the key elements for the success of smart TVs, which demand far more complex interactions than traditional TVs. This paper proposes a novel interface based on the famous touch interaction model but utilizes long-range bare hand tracking to emulate touch actions. To satisfy the essential requirements of high accuracy and immediate response, the proposed hand tracking algorithm adopts a fast color-based tracker but with modifications to avoid the problems inherent to those algorithms. By using online modeling and motion information, the sensitivity to the environment can be greatly decreased. Furthermore, several ideas to solve the problems often encountered by users interacting with smart TVs are proposed, resulting in a very robust hand tracking algorithm that works superbly, even for users with sleeveless clothing. In addition, the proposed algorithm runs at a very high speed of 82.73 Hz. The proposed interface is confirmed to comfortably support most touch operations, such as clicks, swipes, and drags, at a distance of three meters, which makes the proposed interface a good candidate for interaction with smart TVs.
The cluster distributions for different concentrations of 1,4-dibromonaphthalene (DBN) in 4,4'-dibromobenzophenone (DBBP)/1,4-dibromonaphthalene (DBN) choleic acid were determined by a computer simulation in order to model the energy transfer dynamics. The results of the simulation indicate that long range interaction between molecules further apart than nearest does not occur and energy transfer efficiency is restricted by single range interaction. The results also demonstrate that the trapping is diffusion limited. The energy transfer rate is reduced by a factor of 15 in DBBP/DBN choleic acid realtive to that in DBBP/DBN doped into polystyrene due to the larger distance between molecules.
A tumor immune interaction is a main topic of interest in the last couple of decades because majority of human population suffered by tumor, formed by the abnormal growth of cells and is continuously interacted with the immune system. Because of its wide range of applications, many researchers have modeled this tumor immune interaction in the form of ordinary, delay and fractional order differential equations as the majority of biological models have a long range temporal memory. So in the present work, tumor immune interaction in fractional form provides an excellent tool for the description of memory and hereditary properties of inter and intra cells. So the interaction between effector-cells, tumor cells and interleukin-2 (IL-2) are modeled by using the definition of Caputo fractional order derivative that provides the system with long-time memory and gives extra degree of freedom. Moreover, in order to achieve more efficient computational results of fractional-order system, a discretization process is performed to obtain its discrete counterpart. Furthermore, existence and local stability of fixed points are investigated for discrete model. Moreover, it is proved that two types of bifurcations such as Neimark-Sacker and flip bifurcations are studied. Finally, numerical examples are presented to support our analytical results.
An analytic expression for the intensity of collision-induced light scattering obstained by introducing both short-range and long-range effects on the induced anisotropy. By taking argon as a specific example, it is shown that a narrow band at small frequency shifts is caused by long-range effects, while a broad band in the far wing of the spectrum is due to short-range effects. The overall intensity is a synthesis of these two bands and does not follow a simple exponential form. As temperature increases, the intensity at large frequency shifts increases makedly, while at small frequency shifts it changes little.
It has recently been shown that the instability of thin film of a nanoscale can be used in the processes of building nano-size structures, which have potential practical importance in nanotechnology. Molecular dynamics simulation is conducted to probe the thin fluid film of a nano-size and its dynamic behavior during destabilization and structure formation. Non-continuum characteristics are shown in the properties like pressure tensor, viscosity, and thermal conductivity. The thermocapillary force induces a slow growth of long waves in the scale considered. A long-range interaction with the solid wall induces vertical structures, whose formation time and space between neighbors are proportional to the strength of the interaction.

The corrosion of materials exposed to high temperature helium in a very high temperature reactor is caused by interaction with the impurities in the helium. This interaction then induces high temperature mechanical deterioration. By considering the effect of the impurity concentration on material corrosion, a long-term coolant chemistry guideline can be determined for the range of impurity concentration at which the material is stable for a long time. In this work, surface reactions were investigated by analyzing the thermodynamics and the experimental results for Alloy 617 exposed to controlled impure helium at $950^{\circ}C$. Moreover, the surfaces were examined for the Alloy 617 crept in air and in uncontrolled helium, which was explained by possible surface reactions.
While the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic is gradually turning into an endemic disease, concerns about post COVID-19 conditions (Long COVID) are emerging. Obesity is a major risk factor for severe complications of COVID-19, and COVID-19 has a wide range of effects on obesity and metabolic function. This paper aims to examine the interaction between COVID-19 and obesity, the effects and mechanisms of long COVID on obesity, and the role of Korean medicine on long COVID-related obesity. Obesity may worsen with cardiometabolic damage and psychosocial insecurity during COVID-19 and long COVID-induced neuroinflammation, systemic inflammation, mitochondrial dysfunction, and hypoxia also may aggravate obesity. Korean Medicine treatments, which have been widely used to treat obesity, have the potential to improve obesity in the era of long COVID by intervening in these mechanisms.
