A Study on the Appropriate School Placement in Urban Development Area - Centerde on Sejong Special Self-Governing City - (도시개발지역 학교 적정배치 방안 연구 - 세종특별자치시를 중심으로 -)

  • This study explores school location, school environment, educational conditions, and appropriate scale of schools in the context of Sejong City's development area and identifies effective school establishment plans based on the analysis of the needs of the educational community. The research questions for this study include, first, what is the change trend in the number of students as a result of the opening of schools in the development area of Sejong City to the present, and what differences are there between Sejong and other new cities? Second, what challenges arise in school location due to the occurrence of oversized schools and undergraduate institutions? Third, what challenges arise in school location that would limit the ability to create a safe school environment? Fourth, what aspects need to be improved in school location decisions to promote proper placement? A survey was conducted among parents and faculty members to collect data. The findings revealed that first, when establishing a school, identifying an appropriate location for the school was the top priority of the respondents. The second was the proximity of the school to dense housing, with a parent drop zone next to the school site. Third, to address the issue of lack of playgrounds and special class and care classes, respondents called for various measures such as securing school sites within a certain area. Finally, integrated operation schools and school facilities are required in preparation for decreasing school-age populations due to low birth rates.

A Development of Advanced Wiring Harness Design System for a Vehicle (자동차 전장설계 옵션별 출도 및 관리시스템 개발)

  • The harness design process consists of repetitious routines to decide the wire configuration in its interior. A slight change in one of the wire's configuration will require a total reconfiguration of the entire wire system. Therefore, the harness design is extremely time consuming and is vulnerable to human errors by an engineer. Based on both electrical and mechanical area, Wiring Harness system is in complicated area. Existing systems are, therefore, not exactly suitable for practical use. This paper presents a novel framework for ameliorating existing system's defects. In this paper, Visio and Visual Basic was interfaced to process wire bundle information and wire bundle location to alleviate problems mentioned beforehand concerning harness design; at the same time developing the automation of the entire design process based on the feature based design method, optional print, and management of documents for reuse.

  • This study aims to define concepts on Hospital Design Focused on System to respond to the development and change by comparing general design methods of the General hospital architecture in Korea and analyze elements suitable to concepts on Hospital Design Focused on System in the General hospital architecture through examining the transformation of General hospitals in Korea. Essential architectural elements composing the Hospital Design Focused on System are as follows. First of all, the elements which can react to development of hospital architecture are HOSPITAL STREET and site situation. Secondly, core, equipment shaft, column, MAIN STREET and air handling unit room are elements of great importance as the location of these elements determines the dimensions and scale of the space which hospital functions are assigned to. Third, the area in regard to the rate of change is formed by MAIN STREET, which is the primary element, and envelope. The depth between MAIN STREET and envelope is defined as space depth. The flexible area is determined depending on this space depth and thus how to set up this flexible area determines the degree of readiness in responding to the change.

  • Lately majority of churches have preferred to enlarge their worship area to both horizontal and vertical axis. According to expand their area which brings more devotees to the limited service area. Transform from a small church into a large church is no longer unprecedented issue in South Korea. As the size of church getting bigger, many unexpected issues become matters. One of the significant problem is that the number of people have experienced either fall a sleep or feel a doziness during their service period. Due to the limited condition for the specific building type such as religion facility(church), IAQ improvements is seriously concerned. Therefore, we are going to examine by using simulation tool, CF, a difference of ventilation efficiency about the location and number of windows, and find the best way of the ventilation efficiency in a multi-stories type church by changing the exhaust pipes location and size. Furthermore, in this thesis, by changing a ceiling height from the existing building to confirm that $CO_2$ have been satisfied for both the ventilation efficiency and IAQ.

Development of CAD tool for optimal spot weld joints (점용접 위치의 최적화를 위한 CAD Tool 개발)

  • Spot welding palys a key role in increasing productivity and weight reduction of the final products. This paper proposes a systematic approach on the design of spot weld configuration, dealing with the requried number and location of spot weld joints under the given design parameters, such as the applied loads, lap area, and individual spot weld strength. The optimal design of a spot-welded joint is postulated as a state when the safety factors of all spot weld points (i) are evenly distributed and (ii) reach maximum value. A CAD program is developed to arrange the optimal location of each spot weld based on the derived objective function and constraints. The CAD tool integrates the optimization procedure with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) code through an interface. The interface automatically provides geometrical data and mesh configuration for different spot weld locations to FEA model. It also extracts the transmitted load of each spot weld from the FEA code, and allows the optimization code predict an improved arrangement of spot weld locations. The feasibility of the developed approach is demonstrated by the selected examples.

Vehicle Instrument Cluster Layout Differentiation for Elderly Drivers

  • Objective: The objective of this study is to identify essential requirements of the instrument cluster's features and layout for elderly drivers through interview and paper prototyping. Background: Recent updates implemented in passenger vehicles require more complex information to be processed by drivers. Concurrently, a large portion of the US population, the baby boomer generation has aged, causing their physical and cognitive abilities to deter. Thus it is crucial that new methods be implemented into vehicle design in order to accommodate for the deterioration of mental and physical abilities. Method: Forty elderly drivers and twenty young drivers participated in this study. The test included three sessions including: 1) location value assessment to identify the priority of areas within the instrument cluster; 2) component value assessment to capture rankings of the degree of importance and frequency of use for possible instrument cluster components; and 3) paper prototyping to collect self-designed cluster with selection of designs for each component and location of features from each participant. Results: Results revealed differences in the area priority of the instrument cluster as well as the shape and location of component features for age and gender groups. Conclusion: The study provided insights on instrument cluster layout guidelines by proving elderly driver's mental model and preferred cluster design configurations to improve driving safety. Application: LCD-based vehicle instrument cluster design, with an adaptable feature configuration for cluster components and layouts.

  • The LBSNS(Location-Based Social Networking Service) service has been well-received by researchers and end-users, such as Twitter. Location-Based service of Twitter is now structured that users could not subscribe the information of their interesting local area. Those who being following from someone tweet message included information of local area to them just for their own interesting. However, follower may receive that kind of tweet. In order to handle the problem, we propose filtering technique using spatial join. The first work for filtering technique is to add a location information to tweets and users. In this paper, location information is represented by MBR(Minimum Bounding Rectangle). Location information is divided into dynamic property and static property. Suppose that users are continuously moving, that means one of the dynamic property's example. At this time, a massive continous query could cause the problem in server. In this paper, we create Virtual Grid on Google Map for reducing frequency of query, and conclude that it is useful for server.

  • Due to the change in modern lifestyle and social pattern, food service industry has steadily grown recently. Especially, in terms of familiarity, chinese restaurant can be most popular type of dining alternative to Korean. The project was aiming to establish a new branch of the existing restaurant which has a main location in Kangnam area and has been famous for it's food quality, kind services and good interior design. This restaurant is located in Seohyoun-Dong, Bundang-Gu, Kyoungki-Do and this area is very crowded by both residential apartments and commercial offices. Considering the complexity in regional characteristics, this restaurant has basically targeted frequent dining-out family groups. In addition, the floor design was flexibly developed to be able to accomodate large office dining customers. The overall design was intended to keep very elegant and simple atmosphere, developed to express eco-friendly image by adopting the 'Water' component in the floor plan.

  • This study aims to identify the change of bathroom design characteristics through the investigation of bathroom space in apartment model houses. The bathroom space of each private exclusive area was analyzed from the plane characteristics perspective such as quantity, location, size and shape. For this study, site survey and observation was performed to analyze the characteristics of plane and design based on twenty seven model houses of seven large-sized construction firms with Seoul area focused on. Research object was restricted to from ten Pyeong's apartment to sixty Pyeong's in order to understand various characteristics of twenty seven model houses. Since analysis variables were not diverse, the main three factors - frequency, percentage and an average - were represented in Microsoft Excel worksheet, focusing on the quantity of each case, design characteristics and pattern. 1) The quantity of bathrooms: It was turned out that the quantity of bathroom was one in ten Pyeong's apartment while it was two in thirty, forty, and fifty Pyeong's apartment. There were mostly two bathrooms available in twenty Pyeong's apartment even if only one was planned in few cases. All powder rooms and dress rooms in twenty and fifty Pyeong's apartment were designed to be separated and be accessible through bedroom. 2) The size of bathrooms: As private exclusive area increased, the size of bathroom for both family and couple increased. Couple bathrooms had the tendency to be equipped with shower booth and bathtub at the same place or have more tubs than family bathrooms because couple bathrooms were bigger than family bathrooms. 3) The location of bathrooms: Couple bathrooms were usually located beyond dress rooms or powder rooms while family bathrooms were mostly located at the entrance side. 4) The shape of bathrooms: Shower booth was assumed to be in general vogue because family bathrooms, for the most part, were comprised of a flush toilet, a washstand and a shower booth. In the case of couple bathrooms, a flush toilet, a washstand, a shower booth and a tub were generally equipped in more than twenty Pyeong's apartments while a tub was not installed in twenty Pyeong's apartments.

  • According to the ubiquitous trend, the needs for the context based application service have been increased. These services take on Location Based Service which is based on the current location of users. It is widely used that localization techniques use GPS or ground wave and more efficient and accurate methods have been studied. Recently, not only services which targeted outdoor but also services which targeted indoor, for example home services and facility guidance of the building come into the spotlight. In case of the outdoor positioning area, COTH (Commercial Off-The-Shelf) has been released and used but relatively it doesn't produce an outcome in the indoor positioning area. Therefore, this paper Proposes the indoor positioning technique using wireless LAN (Local Area Network) which is one of the widely used wireless communication technique. It analyzes the typical WLAN location positioning methodology has been studied and their advantage and disadvantage also suggests how to design and implement the specific WLAN positioning system. In addition, it suggests new methods that progress the accuracy of the existing systems and improve the efficient computation.
