  • In conventional approaches such as a functinal approach or a parametric approach to online signature verification, which could not deal with the local shape of signature, much various important informations inherent in the local part of signature shape have been overlooked. In this paper, we try a structural approach in which a signature is represented as a structural form of handwriting primitives and the local parts along a signature handwriting can be selectively compared according to their discrimination power in the process of signature verification, As a result, the error rate is diminished in the case that the weights of subpattern units is applied into comparing process, which is the degree of discrimination power of local part. And also, the global variation and complexity of each signature extracted from the analysis of local shape is found useful in determining the decision threshold more precisely.

  • While the unionization of contingent workers is at a standstill, the newly emerging peripheral workers' representation mechanism is CSO(Civil Society Organization). Unlike trade union's representation based on coercive collective bargaining and agreements CSO represents the interests of marginal workers through counseling, advocacy, public relations, and education. In the case of Korea, since the 2000s, labor CSOs, called "contingent centers", have started to spread. As a result of the survey, contingent centers which are contracted out by local governments show the possibility that the representation activities are restricted, because most of their resources are covered from the local government. This is because CSOs have limitations due to a dilemma in the process of representing funders and the represented. Nevertheless, the contingent workers' CSO in Korea shows the possibility of supplementing and supporting the role of trade unions' representation. In this regard, through the solidarity of trade unions and CSOs, it will be possible to expand the representation of unorganized and contingent workers in Korean society.

  • For many years, researchers in face description area have been representing and recognizing faces based on different methods that include subspace discriminant analysis, statistical learning and non-statistics based approach etc. But still automatic face recognition remains an interesting but challenging problem. This paper presents a novel and efficient face image representation method based on Optimized Local Ternary Pattern (OLTP) texture features. The face image is divided into several regions from which the OLTP texture feature distributions are extracted and concatenated into a feature vector that can act as face descriptor. The recognition is performed using nearest neighbor classification method with Chi-square distance as a similarity measure. Extensive experimental results on Yale B, ORL and AR face databases show that OLTP consistently performs much better than other well recognized texture models for face recognition.

  • In visual object tracking, Correlation Filter-based Tracking (CFT) systems have arouse recently to be the most accurate and efficient methods. The CFT's circularly shifts the larger search window to find most likely position of the target. The need of larger search window to cover both background and object make an algorithm sensitive to the background and the target occlusions. Further, the use of fixed-sized windows for training makes them incapable to handle scale variations during tracking. To address these problems, we propose two layer target representation in which both global and local appearances of the target is considered. Multiple local patches in the local layer provide robustness to the background changes and the target occlusion. The target representation is enhanced by employing additional reversed RGB channels to prevent the loss of black objects in background during tracking. The final target position is obtained by the adaptive weighted average of confidence maps from global and local layers. Furthermore, the target scale variation in tracking is handled by the statistical model, which is governed by adaptive constraints to ensure reliability and accuracy in scale estimation. The proposed structural enhancement is tested on VTBv1.0 benchmark for its accuracy and robustness.

  • The performance of face recognition methods using subspace projection is directly related to the characteristics of their basis images, especially in the cases of local distortion or partial occlusion. In order for a subspace projection method to be robust to local distortion and partial occlusion, the basis images generated by the method should exhibit a part-based local representation. We propose an effective part-based local representation method named locally salient ICA (LS-ICA) method for face recognition that is robust to local distortion and partial occlusion. The LS-ICA method only employs locally salient information from important facial parts in order to maximize the benefit of applying the idea of 'recognition by parts.' It creates part-based local basis images by imposing additional localization constraint in the process of computing ICA architecture I basis images. We have contrasted the LS-ICA method with other part-based representations such as LNMF (Localized Non-negative Matrix Factorization)and LFA (Local Feature Analysis). Experimental results show that the LS-ICA method performs better than PCA, ICA architecture I, ICA architecture II, LFA, and LNMF methods, especially in the cases of partial occlusions and local distortion

  • The connectionist model is one approach to studying language processing from a computational perspective. And building a representation in the connectionist model study is just as important as making the structure of the model in that it determines the level of learning and performance of the model. The connectionist model has been constructed in two different ways: localist representation and distributed representation. However, the localist representation used in the previous studies had limitations in that the unit of the output layer having a rare target activation value is inactivated, and the past distributed representation has the limitation of difficulty in confirming the result by the opacity of the displayed information. This has been a limitation of the overall connection model study. In this paper, we present a new method to induce distributed representation with local representation using abstraction of information, which is a feature of restricted Boltzmann machine, with respect to the limitation of such representation of the past. As a result, our proposed method effectively solves the problem of conventional representation by using the method of information compression and inverse transformation of distributed representation into local representation.

  • We give a function associated with generalized Ostrowski type inequality and its integral representation for local fractional calculus. Then, using this function and its integral representation, we establish several inequalities of generalized Ostrowski type for twice local fractional differentiable functions. We also consider some special cases of the main results which are further applied to a concrete function to yield two interesting inequalities associated with two generalized means.

  • Face sketch synthesis plays an important role in public security and digital entertainment. In this paper, we present a novel face sketch synthesis method via local similarity and nonlocal similarity regularization terms. The local similarity can overcome the technological bottlenecks of the patch representation scheme in traditional learning-based methods. It improves the quality of synthesized sketches by penalizing the dissimilar training patches (thus have very small weights or are discarded). In addition, taking the redundancy of image patches into account, a global nonlocal similarity regularization is employed to restrain the generation of the noise and maintain primitive facial features during the synthesized process. More robust synthesized results can be obtained. Extensive experiments on the public databases validate the generality, effectiveness, and robustness of the proposed algorithm.

  • Recently, Transformer has made great progress in video retrieval tasks due to its high representation capability. For the structure of a Transformer, the cascaded self-attention modules are capable of capturing long-distance feature dependencies. However, the local feature details are likely to have deteriorated. In addition, increasing the depth of the structure is likely to produce learning bias in the learned features. In this paper, an improved Transformer structure named TransDCS (Transformer with Dynamic Convolution and Shortcut) is proposed. A Multi-head Conv-Self-Attention module is introduced to model the local dependencies and improve the efficiency of local features extraction. Meanwhile, the augmented shortcuts module based on a dual identity matrix is applied to enhance the conduction of input features, and mitigate the learning bias. The proposed model is tested on MSRVTT, LSMDC and Activity-Net benchmarks, and it surpasses all previous solutions for the video-text retrieval task. For example, on the LSMDC benchmark, a gain of about 2.3% MdR and 6.1% MnR is obtained over recently proposed multimodal-based methods.

  • The residence plan of Korea has been formed with bias for quantitative growth and uniformity failing at obtaining human value. Also, rapid growth brought about severe problems of deteriorated human life and destruction of environment. The solution for these problems is pursued in many directions, but there is short of active plan yet. The residence shall develop into new direction to satisfy the demand by reflecting society and culture as well as residents. This study examines external design with symbolic representation of regional feature as an alternative for uniform residence environment problem. This study will be a basic data upon suggesting the direction for planning high quality residence environment. This study examined the elements which form external space of residence complex, designed plan for external space of residence complex, and examined how to reflect regional feature which is important element of local community and culture on the space plan for residence complex based on the evaluation by local residents centered on Gimcheon-si, Gyeongbuk which just started local specialty by fostering.
