It is difficult for the learner to understand completely the ratio concept which forms a basis of proportional reasoning. And proportional reasoning is, on the one hand, the capstone of children's elementary school arithmetic and, the other hand, it is the cornerstone of all that is to follow. But school mathematics has centered on the teachings of algorithm without dealing with its essence and meaning. The purpose of this study is to analyze the essence of ratio concept from multidimensional viewpoint. In addition, this study will show the direction for improvement of ratio concept. For this purpose, I tried to analyze the historical development of ratio concept. Most mathematicians today consider ratio as fraction and, in effect, identify ratios with what mathematicians called the denominations of ratios. But Euclid did not. In line with Euclid's theory, ratio should not have been represented in the same way as fraction, and proportion should not have been represented as equation, but in line with the other's theory they might be. The two theories of ratios were running alongside each other, but the differences between them were not always clearly stated. Ratio can be interpreted as a function of an ordered pair of numbers or magnitude values. A ratio is a numerical expression of how much there is of one quantity in relation to another quantity. So ratio can be interpreted as a binary vector which differentiates between the absolute aspect of a vector -its size- and the comparative aspect-its slope. Analysis on ratio concept shows that its basic structure implies 'proportionality' and it is formalized through transmission from the understanding of the invariance of internal ratio to the understanding of constancy of external ratio. In the study, a fittingness(or comparison) and a covariation were examined as the intuitive origins of proportion and proportional reasoning. These form the basis of the protoquantitative knowledge. The development of sequences of proportional reasoning was examined. The first attempts at quantifying the relationships are usually additive reasoning. Additive reasoning appears as a precursor to proportional reasoning. Preproportions are followed by logical proportions which refer to the understanding of the logical relationships between the four terms of a proportion. Even though developmental psychologists often speak of proportional reasoning as though it were a global ability, other psychologists insist that the evolution of proportional reasoning is characterized by a gradual increase in local competence.
Correlation is a basic statistical concept which is necessary for understanding the relationship between two variables when they change values. In the middle school curriculum of Korea, only informal definition of correlation is taught with two-way data representations such as scatter plots and contingency tables. In this study, we investigated Korean high school students' understanding of correlation using a test consisting of 35 items about interpretation of scatter plot, contingency table, and text in realistic situation. 216 students from a high school in Seoul took the test for 20 minutes. From the results, we could observe the following: First, students did not have right criteria for determining the strength of correlation presented in scatter plots. Most of students could determine if there is correlation/no correlation and if the correlation is positive/negative by seeing the data presented in scatter plots. However, they did not judge by the closeness to the regression line but rather judged by the closeness between data points. Second, when statements about comparing the strength of correlation in the context of real life situation were given in text, the students had difficulty in understanding the distribution-related characteristic of the bi-variate data. Students had difficulty in figuring out the local distribution characteristic of data, which cannot be guessed merely based on the expression 'The correlation is strong' without statistical knowledge of correlation. Third, a large number of students could not judge the association between two variabels using conditional proportions when qualitative data are given in 2-by-2 tables. They made judgement by the absolute cell count and when the marginal sum of two categories are different for explanatory variable they thought the association could not be determined. From these results, we concluded that educational measures are required in order to remove such misconceptions and to improve understanding of correlation. Considering that the current mathematics curriculum does not cover the concept of correlation, we need to improve the curriculum as well.
With the development of information and communication technologies, a new paradigm in higher education is required. Accordingly, establishing a smart campus has emerged as an important issue in universities worldwide. This study aims to discuss key issues and to provide useful academical and practical implications on smart campus by reviewing related literatures. For this purpose, this study examined recent literatures on smart campus by four research perspectives; 1) learning/knowledge-centric approach, 2) technology-centric approach, 3) integrated approach, and 4) user-centric approach, then developed smart campus framework. Smart campus user criteria contained members of university as well as local community and business stockholders. Smart campus framework presented specific service areas each belongs to smart education, smart life and smart administration domains and motivating factors of using smart campus. Moreover, by considering key issues and problems raised in previous studies, this study suggested practical implications for successful development of smart campus.

A questionnaire survey was conducted to investigate the use of SCI and awareness of SCI source journals by fatuity members at Korean medical colleges. 104 out of 180 faculty members randomly chosen from four prestigious medical colleges returned the questionnaires malled to them. Korean medical researchers rarely used SCI as their main source of research Information. They rather used the MEDLINE to seek the research information probably because they are easily available from their local libraries. Furthermore. many respondents mistakenly Identified 'SCI journals ranked by Impact factor' lists found In Journal Citation Reports (JCR) with the SCI Itself. That Is. In Korean medical research community. the virtue of SCI Is not as an Index but as a source of SCI Journal Impact factor Information. It Is because the Interest in impact factor Is highly associated with the pressure to publish In one of those SCI source Journals. The collected data shows that even the medical professors at these prestigious medical colleges suffer from the lack of knowledge and information about SCI. SCI source journals and their Impact factors. Nontheless, core journal titles of a medical specialty selected by Korean medical professors are mostly high-Impact Journals of Its field (1.e.. belong to the upper 1/3) zone ranked by Impact factor). Within each specialty. the Journal ranks assigned to the selected core Journals by the respondents agree with the ranks by SCI Impact factor to a great extent. That Is. the Korean medical scientists awareness on SCI Journals as defined in this study is in good standing. Therefore. a policy of a medical college to require medical professors to publish In SCI Journals to be promoted or a policy to evaluate a researcher's work by the fact that his research papers are published In SCI Journals can be positively pursued.
The purpose of this study is to develop New-IT internship and to search for the way to reduce quality mismatch and unemployment ratio and to ultimately enhance its effectiveness of university-industry collaboration(UIC) in the field of information technology in Korea. To achieve the goal of this study, we tried to come up with more job creation than educational UIC. The survey(based on CIPP model) based on the reaction of companies and interns participating in IT internship program promoted by MKE(Ministry of Knowledge and Economy) shows that intern experience helped them to get jobs and longer intern period gave them to find job more easily. This program is designed to focus on intern matching between students' major and their intern jobs, and requires new employees' level of job quality. They(56%) preferred to hire local college students majoring in special technology area related to regional innovation industry cluster. It also found that intern companies(87%) wanted to participate in this program again and hired intern students(61%) as showing the possible connection of internship and employment. IT Internship program affected students(68.3%) good images about small and medium enterprises(SME) after finishing internship.
Crack widths play an important role in the serviceability limit state. When crack widths are controlled sufficiently, the reinforcement corrosion can be reduced using only existing concrete cover thickness due to low permeability in the region of finely distributed hair-cracks. Thus, the knowledge about the tensile crack opening is essential in designing more durable concrete structures. Therefore, numerous researches related to the topic have been performed. Nevertheless accurate measurement of a crack width is not a simple task due to several reasons such as unknown potential crack formation location and crack opening damaging strain gages. In order to overcome these difficulties and measure precise crack widths, a displacement measurement system was developed using digital image correlation. Accuracy calibration tests gave an average measurement error of 0.069 pixels and a standard deviation of 0.050 pixels. Direct tensile test was performed using ultra high performance concrete specimens. Crack widths at both notched and unnotched locations were measured and compared with clip-in gages at various loading steps to obtain crack opening profile. Tensile deformation characteristics of concrete were well visualized using displacement vectors and full-field displacement contour maps. The proposed technique made it possible to measure crack widths at arbitrary locations, which is difficult with conventional gages such as clip-in gages or displacement transducers.
This study aims to investigate the changes in the occupational structure of employment in Korea during the last three decades, in which have transformed from industrialized economy to knowledge-based economy very rapidly as well as having experiences of both IMF and financial crisis. For this purpose, we analyze the trends occupational distribution and the socio-demographic characteristics of the occupational structure of employment since 1980. By applying correspondence analysis of Multidimensional Scaling(MDS) methods, we examine the inter-relationships between the employed persons by occupation and their characteristics such as gender, age group, educational attainment, industry, region. We found the occupational structure of Korea has been changed dramatically with the socio-economic transformations during the last four decades. In particular, the occupational (job) structure has been highered in general. However, it has also been dualized extremely into two groups, one is the specialized-skilled-white color jobs and the other is the simple-unskilled-blue color jobs. The results of this study could be utilized as the importation basis for the provision of labour supply and employment policy plan at the national level as well as at the local level.

On the basis of this scheme, schools adopt 3-Type curriculum considering their conditions and covert themselves into specialized high school which is associated with local industry cluster. They also establish combined high schools which run various curriculums emphasizing basic vocational abilities so that they can meet the needs of demanders The activation plan of Chung-buk province vocational education is a dualized one which is for both ongoing education for entrance into a school of higher grade and the last education for employment, which is supposed to foster the human resources required by the knowledge-based society in the 21st century. The specific contents of 'VEC 2010' is as follows. First, VEC 2010 presents 2 kinds of mid-long term management system for industrial high schools: general industrial high school, specialized high school(single type, combined type). Second, VEC 2010 arranges and run the 3-Type of curriculum of Chung-buk province industrial high schools: employment-centered type, entering higher school-centered type, inaugurating enterprise-centered type. Third, VEC 2010 divides Chung-buk province industrial high schools into 4 districts and suggests mid-long term reorganization plan of system. Since diplomatic relations with China in 1992, many Korean companies have entered into China and that expansion is currently continuing. But now, many of Korean enterprises tend to withdraw and return to the domestic, this is because that major factors are too much fast increasing in labor costs and the difficulty of local workforce management. In this study, it is researched that the type of human resource management of Korean firms entering into Heilongjiang Province, Harbin and the similarities and differences were investigated by comparing the form of personnel management of existing areas and Harbin area, and then this study was conducted the survey and interview of domestic companies operating in Harbin, to pursuit the efficient way to manage the workforce development and management strategies. The result of researches and workforce development strategies of entering firms are as follows; First, it is required to establish a human resource discovery system for entering companies in focusing on managerial work ability and on blue-collar which is separated by professional and technical experts and a simple blue-collar people. Second, it is required to entering companies that they have to grow up the promotion and exchange of the Department of Korean Studies in Harbin and have to build the industry and universities training programs to promote needed experts, and have to establish the expert pool systems to support the flexible labor supply.
This Article examines the main approaches to the public understanding of science(PUS) in light of the changing relation of science and public. Traditional approach called deficit model recognizes scientific knowledge as a entity, unidirectionally diffusing to public. This View basically presupposes the gap between science and public. Meanwhile, this approach has an aspiration to reduce the gap. So there is a paradoxical situation in the traditional PUS. Public perception of environmental crisis and risk of science has been risen since late 1980's. And the science technology studies (STS) have criticized traditional approach. STS proposes new approach of constructive PUS. Constructive PUS conceives the public to have heterogeneous, local characteristic. This approach has been very fertile both in theory and practice. But most recently, newly proposed approach, so called heterogeneous PUS, criticizes constructive PUS. Main point of criticism is that constructive PUS has dichotomy between science and public, and romanticizes the public. It is uncertain whether heterogeneous PUS can take place of constructive PUS. But this trend has the implication that the relation of science and public is constantly changing.
