For accurate wind resource assessment and wind turbine performance test, it is essential to secure wind data covering a rotor plane of wind turbine including a hub height. In general, we can depict wind speed profile by extrapolating or interpolating the wind speed data measured from a meteorological tower where multiple anemometers are mounted at different heights using a power-law of wind speed profile. The most important parameter of a power-law equation is a vertical wind profile exponent which represents local characteristics of terrain and land cover. In this study, we calculated diurnal vertical wind profile exponents of 8 locations in Jeju Island who possesses excellent wind resource according to the GUM (Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement) to evaluate its uncertainty. Expanded uncertainty is calculated by combined standard uncertainty, which is the result of composing type A standard uncertainty with type B standard uncertainty. Although pooled standard deviation should be considered to derive type A uncertainty, we used the standard deviation of vertical wind profile exponent of each day avoiding the difficult of uncertainty evaluation of diurnal wind profile variation. It is anticipated that the evaluated uncertainties of diurnal vertical wind profile exponents at 8 locations in Jeju Island are to be registered as a national standard reference data and widely used in the relevant areas.
It is more likely that the degree of air quality degradation that we have faced would be much lessen, if integrated management of air pollution control and assessment had been fully enforced by the local administrations, not by the centralized environmental agency in the first place. As the selfgoverning local administrations have been established since 1995, the need for air quality control by the local administration or local agency is getting the ground. However, in practice, air quality control by the local administration rarely put into effect due to lack of basic data which cover the present trends of air quality in each local city or county and are necessary for decision making. The emissions of SO$_2$ in each city and county of Korea in 1993 were calculated in this study, based on energy consumptions and emission factors. The ambient concentrations of SO$_2$ also were estimated by applying modified Miller-Holtzworth model. Observed and estimated concentrations of SO$_2$ showed that about 17.5 percents of cities and counties in the country were more polluted than the target value, 20ppb/year. The emissions and ambient concentrations of SO$_2$ in each city and county in 2000, 2005, and 2010 were also forecasted, assumed business as usual senario. It was shown that, in 2010, the emissions of SO$_2$ will be 2.8 times more than those of 1993 and much of them are from industrial sector. Also shown that 38.3 percents of cities and counties will be more polluted than the target value and most of them are polluted areas in 1993. The methods and results of this study could be used in developing the efficient reduction strategies in each city and county.
In relieving local pains, ropivacaine has been widely used. In case of their application such as ointments and creams, it is difficult to expect their effects for a significant period of time, because they are easily removed by wetting, movement and contacting. Therefore, the new formulations that have suitable bioadhesion were needed to enhance local anesthetic effects. The effect of drug concentration and temperature on drug release was studied from the prepared 1.5% Carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) (150MC) gels using synthetic cellulose membrane at $37{\pm}0.5^{\circ}C$. As the drug concentration and temperature increased, the drug release increased. A linear relationship was observed between the logarithm of the permeability coefficient and the reciprocal temperature. The activation energy of drug permeation was 3.16 kcal/mol for a 1.5% loading dose. To increase the skin permeation of ropivacaine from CMC gel, enhancers such as saturated and unsaturated fatty acids, pyrrolidones, propylene glycol derivatives, glycerides, and non-ionic surfactants were incorporated into the ropivacaine-CMC gels. Among the enhancers used, polyoxyethylene 2-oleyl ether showed the highest enhancing effects. For the efficacy study, the anesthetic action of the formulated ropivacaine gel containing an enhancer and vasoconstrictor was evaluated with the tail-flick analgesimeter. According to the rat tail-flick test, 1.5% drug gels containing polyoxyethylene 2-oleyl ether and tetrahydrozoline showed the best prolonged local analgesic effects. In conclusion, the enhanced local anesthetic gels containing penetration enhancer and vasoconstrictor could be developed using the bioadhesive polymer.
The purpose of this essay is three-fold: to trace the genealogy of the Korean musical, which ever since its inception in the 1960s has been seeking to modernize Korean theater with Broadway as a constant role model; to investigate how the national and the global conflict and are conflated in the form of the Korean musical in the process of its (dis)identification with Broadway; and to examine how its intercultural translations reveal and reflect the dilemma and ambivalence posed by globalization in our era. Drawing on Richard Dyer's signature article Entertainment and Utopia, I analyze how the Korean musical manifests and conduits competing utopian impulses of Korean/Global audiences. I also attempt to problematize the formulaic notion of Broadway musicalsthe Superior Other!which implies a global hegemony that does not, in fact, exist because the boundary between the global and the local as well as the power dynamics of global culture are not fixed but constantly moving and changing. Today's musical scene in Korea shows interesting reversals from the 1990s, when Korean producers were eager to debut on Broadway and impress American audiences. Korean producers no longer look up to Broadway as a final destination; instead they want to make Seoul a new Broadway. They import Broadway musicals and turn them into Korean shows. The glamor of Broadway is no longer the main attraction of musicals in Korea. What young audiences look for most is the glamor of K-pop idols and utopian feelings of abundance, energy, intensity, transparency and community, which they can experience live in the musical with their favorite stars right in front of their eyes. In conclusion, I delve into the complex dynamics of recent Korean musicals with Thomas Friedman's theory of Globalization 3.0 as reference. The binary formula of Global/America versus Local/Korea cannot be applied to the dynamic and intercultural musical scene of today. Globalization is not a uniform phenomenon but rather a twofold (multifold) process of global domination and dissemination, in which the global and the local conflict and are conflated constantly. As this study tries to illuminate, the Korean musical has evolved in a huge net of interdependences between the global and the local with a range of sources, powers and influences.
A concept of hierarchical modeling, the newest modeling technology. has been introduced early In 1990. This nu technology has a goat potential to advance the capabilities of current computational mechanics. A first step to Implement this concept is to construct hierarchical models, a family of mathematical models which are sequentially connected by a key parameter of the problem under consideration and have different levels in modeling accuracy, and to investigate characteristics In their numerical simulation aspects. Among representative model problems to explore this concept are elastic structures such as beam-, arch-. plate- and shell-like structures because the mechanical behavior through the thickness can be approximated with sequential accuracy by varying the order of thickness polynomials in the displacement or stress fields. But, in the numerical analysis of hierarchical models, two kinds of errors prevail: the modeling error and the numerical approximation errors. To ensure numerical simulation quality, an accurate estimation of these two errors Is definitely essential. Here, a local a posteriori error estimator for elastic structures with thin domain such as plate- and shell-like structures Is derived using element residuals and flux balancing technique. This method guarantees upper bounds for the global error, and also provides accurate local error Indicators for two types of errors, in the energy norm. Comparing to the classical error estimators using flux averaging technique, this shows considerably reliable and accurate effectivity indices. To illustrate the theoretical results and to verify the validity of the proposed error estimator, representative numerical examples are provided.
This paper presents numerical and theoretical investigations on the strain rate in steel-concrete composite (SC) panels under low-velocity impact of a hemispherical rigid body. Finite element analyses were performed on five specimens with different loading rates. The impact energy was kept constant to eliminate its influence by simultaneously altering the velocity and mass of the projectile. Results show that the strain rate in most parts of the specimens was low and its influence on bearing capacity and energy dissipation was limited in an average sense of space and time. Therefore, the strain rate effect can be ignored for the analyses of global deformation. However, the strain rate effect should be considered in local contact problems. Equations of the local strain and strain rate were theoretically derived.

For the severe haze situation in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, conventional fine particulate matter (PM2.5) concentration prediction methods based on pollutant data face problems such as incomplete data, which may lead to poor prediction performance. Therefore, this paper proposes a method of predicting the PM2.5 concentration based on image analysis technology that combines image data, which can reflect the original weather conditions, with currently popular machine learning methods. First, based on local parameter estimation, autoregressive (AR) model analysis and local estimation of the increase in image blur, we extract features from the weather images using an approach inspired by free energy and a no-reference robust metric model. Next, we compare the coefficient energy and contrast difference of each pixel in the AR model and then use the percentages to calculate the image sharpness to derive the overall mass fraction. Furthermore, the results are compared. The relationship between residual value and PM2.5 concentration is fitted by generalized Gauss distribution (GGD) model. Finally, nonlinear mapping is performed via the wavelet neural network (WNN) method to obtain the PM2.5 concentration. Experimental results obtained on real data show that the proposed method offers an improved prediction accuracy and lower root mean square error (RMSE).
When we urgently need to develop and supply an alternative energy, wind power is growing with much interest because it has relative low cost of power and area of tower. To estimate the wind power resource, it is necessary to make an wind resource map first. On the study of wind resource map in the Korean peninsula, Southern coast was needed to investigate the possibility of developing wind power complex because of good wind resources. In this study, we made a vertical observation to analyze the properties of wind in coastal area. From tethered sonde observation, we knew that synoptic effect had an influence higher in second day than first day. This means local wind circulation is generated on first day but not second day. The local wind made vertical wind shear strong in first day. Also, there was large difference of wind speed between layers at night time by analysis of SODAR observation.

This paper focuses on the control of bidirectional power flow in the electric shipboard power systems, especially in the Medium-Voltage Direct Current (MVDC) shipboard power system. Bidirectional power control between the main MVDC bus and the local zones can improve the energy efficiency and control flexibility of electric ship systems. However, since the MVDC system contains various nonlinear loads such as pulsed power load and radar in various subsystems, the voltage of the MVDC and the local zones varies significantly. This voltage variation affects the control performance of the bidirectional DC-DC converters as exogenous disturbances. To improve the control performance regardless of uncertainties and disturbances, this paper proposes a novel controller design method of the bidirectional DC-DC converters using $L_1$ control theory and intelligent optimization algorithm. The performance of the proposed method is verified via large-scale real-time digital simulation of a notional shipboard MVDC power system.
In rearpoint contact solar cell and the PERC (passivated emitter rear contact) type cell, surfaces were passivated by SiO2 or Al2O3 to increase solar cell efficiency. Therefore, we have investigated the effect of surface passivation for crystalline silicon solarcell using mass-production atomic layer deposited (ALD) Al2O3. The patttern which consists of cylinders with 100um diameter and 5um height was formed by PR patterning on Si (100) substrate and then Al2O3 of about 10nm and 20nm thickness was deposited by ALD. The pattern in 10 nm Al2O3 film was removed by dipping in aceton solution for about 10 min but the pattern in 20 nm Al2O3 film was not. The influences of process temperature and heat treatment were investigated using microwave photoconductance decay (PCD) and Quasi-Steady-State photoconductance (QSSPC). The solar cell process used in this work combines the advantage of using the applicability of a selective deposition associated with a ALD passivation and the use of low-cost screen print for the contacts formation.
