In this paper, we propose a three-dimensional(3D) active shape models for medical image segmentation. In order to build a 3D shape model, we need to generate a point distribution model(PDM) and select corresponding landmarks in all the training shapes. The manual determination method, two-dimensional(2D) method, and limited 3D method of landmark correspondences are time-consuming, tedious, and error-prone. In this paper, we generate a 3D statistical shape model using the 3D model generation method of a distance transform and a tetrahedron method for landmarking. After generating the 3D model, we extend the shape model training and gray-level model training of 2D active shape models(ASMs) and we use the integrated modeling process with scale and gray-level models for the appearance profile to represent the local structure. Experimental results are comparable to those of region-based, contour-based methods, and 2D ASMs.
IPCC showed that calculation of climate vulnerability index requires standardization process of various proxy variables for the estimation of climate exposure, sensitivity, and adaptive capacity. In this study, four different methodologies of standardization methods: Z-score, Rescaling, Ranking, and Distance to the reference country, are employed to evaluate climate vulnerability-VRI (Vulnerability-Resilience Indicator) over Korean peninsula, and the error ranges of VRI, arising from employing the different standardization are estimated. All of proxy variables are provided by CCGIS (Climate Change adaptation toolkit based on GIS) which hosts information on both past and current socio-economic data and climate and environmental IPCC SRES (A2, B1, A1B, A1T, A1FI, and A1 scenarios) climate data for the decades of 2000s, 2020s, 2050s, and 2100s. The results showed that Z-score and Rescaling methods showed statistically undistinguishable results with minor differences of spatial distribution, while Ranking and Distance to the reference country methods showed some possibility to lead the different ranking of VRI among South Korean provinces, depending on the local characteristics and reference province. The resultant VRIs calculated from different standardization methods showed Cronbach's alpha of more than 0.84, indicating that all of different methodologies were overall consistent. Similar horizontal distributions were shown with the same trends: VRI increases as province is close to the coastal region and/or it close toward lower latitude, and decreases as it is close to urbanization area. Other characteristics of the four different standardization are discussed in this study.

This study was conducted to evaluate ventilation efficiency of 4-stage slot hood by variation of slot width, flow rate, hood size and baffle size. The slot velocity, control velocity and plenum velocity were related to slot width and the distance between source of contamination and hood. The results obtained from laboratory experiment for local exhaust ventilation systems were as follows ; 1. When slot widths were constant(equally changed) and the velocity was 6-10 m/s, the slot velocity from 1st slot to 4th slot gradually decreased. As the slot width-to-slot length ratio(WLR) decreased, the slot velocity of each stage increased. But if WLR value was less than 0.04, the slot velocity decreased. 2. When slot velocity exceeded 10 m/s with constant slot widths, the slot velocity of each stage was uniform. 3. When the slot velocity was uniform within 10 m/s and the first slot width was 14-20 mm, the slot width ratio between 1st slot and each of three other slots were 1, 1.25, 1.5 and 3.0, respectively. 4. The slot and plenum velocity were uniform when exhaust flow rate changed from 14 to $19m^3/min$ and there were no hood splitter vanes. 5. When the slot velocity at each stage was uniform, the control velocity at site 30 cm away from hood No.2 increased from 0.15-0.30 to 0.25-0.45 m/s and the control distance from 20 to 30 cm(about 1.5 times).

The generalized symmetry transform evaluates symmetry without segmentation and extracts regions of interest in an image by combining locality and reflectional symmetry The demand that the symmetry transform be local is reflected by the distance weight function. When calculating large regions-of-interest, we should select a large standard deviation of distance weight function. But such a large standard deviation makes the execution time increase in the second power of r, which is a radius of search area. In this paper we propose modified scan line based GST with selectively directional attention to improve time complexity The symmetry map of our proposed GST is found to be very similar to that of the existing GST. However the computation time of the proposed GST increases linearly with respect to r because our proposed GST evaluates symmetry between a pair of edge pixels along the scan lines. The GST computation decreases considerably when the proposed GST is peformed with selectively directional attention in case of large r. Several experiments in this paper demonstrate the time efficiency and the usefulness of our proposed GST.
Unfolding is an efficient technique to detect colorectal disease since it represents entire shape of colon at a glance. However, the previous unfolding methods may miss the surface located behind the folds or high curvature areas. To solve the problem, we propose an adaptive unfolding method that controls the number of rays in accordance with the surface complexity. In the first step, we find sample points of longer and shorter distance between the sample points and the colon surface, and then determine them as based control points. Next, for reaching rays of sample points in the wrinkled colon surface, sample points are shifted toward the control points that have the long distance. Lastly, we perform a 2D scaling which solves local distortions of the unfolding surface and avoids missing surface. Consequently, our method could be visualized the hidden surface of colon organ in detail.
In this paper, we proposed a contour shape description method which use the CFR(contour fluctuation ratio) feature. The CFR is the ratio of the line length to the curve length of a contour segment. The line length means the distance of two end points on a contour segment, and the curve length means the sum of distance of all adjacent two points on a contour segment. We should acquire rotation and scale invariant contour segments because each CFR is computed from contour segments. By using the interleaved contour segment of which length is proportion to the entire contour length and which is generated from all the points on contour, we could acquire rotation and scale invariant contour segments. The CFR can describes the local or global feature of contour shape according to the unit length of contour segment. Therefore we describe the shape of objects with the feature vector which represents the distribution of CFRs, and calculate the similarity by comparing the feature vector of corresponding unit length segments. We implemented the proposed method and experimented with rotated and scaled 165 fish images of fifteen types. The experimental result shows that the proposed method is not only invariant to rotation and scale but also superior to NCCH and TRP method in the clustering power.
A regional wind network with complex surface conditions must be designed with sufficient space and time resolution to resolve the local circulations. In this study, the spatial variations of the wind field observed in the Seoul and Jeju regional networks were evaluated in terms of annual, seasons, and months to assess the spatial homogeneity of wind fields within the regional networks. The coherency of the wind field as a function of separation distance between stations indicated that significant coherency was sometimes not captured by the network, as inferred by low correlations between adjacent stations. A meso-velocity scale was defined in terms of the spatial variability of the wind within the network. This problem is predictably most significant with weak winds, dull prevailing wind, clear skies and significant topography. The relatively small correlations between stations imply that the wind at a given point cannot be estimated by interpolating winds from the nearest stations. For the Seoul and Jeju regional network, the meso-velocity scale has typically a same order of magnitude as the speed of the network averaged wind, revealing the large spatial variability of the Jeju network station imply topography and weather. Significant scatter in the relationship between spatial variability of the wind field and the wind speed is thought to be related to thermally-generated flows. The magnitude of the mesovelocity scale was significantly different along separation distance between stations, wind speed, intensity of prevailing wind, clear and cloudy conditions, topography. Resultant wind vectors indicate much different flow patterns along condition of contributing factors. As a result, the careful considerations on contributing factors such as prevailing wind in season, weather, and complex surface conditions with topography and land/sea contrast are required to assess the spatial variations of wind field on a regional network. The results in the spatial variation from the mesovelocity scale are useful to represent the characteristics of regional wind speed including lower surface conditions over the grid scale of large scale atmospheric model.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to assess the clinical and radiological results of the early primary repair for acute ankle sprains. Materials and Methods: From October 2002 to September 2005, nine patients with acute ankle sprain were analyzed. Among them, eight patients took the inversion stress X-ray at local clinics, and the mean talar tilting angle was 28 degrees. We observed avulsion fragment near lateral malleolus in the other. The average age at the time of operation was 24 years and average follow-up period was 29 months. We evaluated postoperative symptoms by Hasegawa's clinical rating system, postoperative complications, and compared the talar tilting angle and anterior draw distance between both ankles at the final follow-up X-rays. Results: Anterior talofibular ligament was ruptured at fibula in 4, at midsubstance in 3, at talus in 1 and at fibula and midsubstance simultaneously in 1. Calcaneofibular ligament was ruptured at fibula in 3 including a case of avulsion fracture, at midsubstance in 2, and at calcaneus in 4. And posterior talofibular ligament was ruptured at midsubstance in 2. Clinical results were rated as excellent in all. We did not find major postoperative complications except for one sural nerve irritation. Both (injured ankle/uninjured ankle) talar tilting angle averaged 6.8/8.2 degrees and anterior draw distance averaged 2.9/3.7 mm at final follow-up X-rays. Conclusion: Early primary repair is recommended for treating acute severe ankle sprains and in case found avulsion fracture in X-ray taken after ankle sprain.

This study was undertaken to investigate the corrosive wear charateristics upon various transformation condition of austempered low-alloy ductile cast iron in corrosive environments against mating specimen made of the hardened SM45C. The corrosive wear test was carried out by rubbing the annular surface of two test pieces in distilled water and aqueous solution at constant sliding speed of 0.5m/s. In severe wear region, the corrosive wear rate Wc increased hastily with NaCl concentration owing to intermetallic adhesion but Wc went down slowly in mild wear region due to lubricating effect of the corrosion product. The critical sliding distance decreased with increasing NaCl concentration due to increased generation rate of the corrosion product and the specific corrosive wear rate has maximum in 1% NaCl aqueous solution at mild wear region. With the variation of matrix, the corrosive wear resistance of the fine acicular bainite was higher than that of coarse upper bainite because of reducing the local cell reaction by carbides. A growth in volume fraction of retained austenite in matrix increased the Wc due to soften surface, but has a declining tendency of Wc in mild wear region.

There has been many studies representing intellectual structures with multidimensional scaling(MDS) However MDS configuration is limited in representing local details and explicit structures. In this paper, we identified two components of MDS mapping approach; one is MDS algorithm and the other is preparation of data matrix. Various combinations of the two components of MDS mapping are compared through some measures of fit. It is revealed that the conventional approach composed of ALSCAL algorithm and Euclidean distance matrix calculated from Pearson's correlation matrix is the worst of the compared MDS mapping approaches. Otherwise the best approach to make MDS map is composed of PROXSCAL algorithm and z-scored Euclidean distance matrix calculated from Pearson's correlation matrix. These results suggest that we could obtain more detailed and explicit map of a knowledge domain through careful considerations on the process of MDS mapping.
