  • In Juam basin, the ratio of non-point pollution source among pollutant loading of basin was significantly high, since the utilization level of land was high. In addition, the most pollutants were not treated and flowed out. In this study, the correlation between non-point source pollutants from the forest area and increasing algae was investigated. 1. Chl-a concentration flowed out to runoff from forest area and stream water was low as $0.1{\sim}20.3{\mu}g/{\ell}$ and $0.1{\sim}9.3{\mu}g/{\ell}$, respectively, and chl-a concentration ($0.1{\sim}28.5{\mu}g/{\ell}$) of branch stream was higher $5{\sim}7$ times than that of runoff from forest area. 2. In correlation between runoff from forest area and Juam lake water, annual chl-a concentration of area front Juam dam was higher twice than forest area. 3. In runoff from forest area within Juam basin, flagellate, green, diatom and blue algae occupied $33.0{\sim}41.7%$, $22.2{\sim}30.8%$, $17.3{\sim}22.5%$ and $13.7{\sim}17.6%$, respectively. 4. In runoff from forest area, both green and diatom algae were maintained constantly irrespectively of season, and flagellate algae dominated since August. 5. In characteristics by forest tree types, four types algae were inhabited in mixed forest, and flagellate algae were higher in conifer and broadleaf forest than in other area. And green algae in herbaceous forest were higher than other area.

  • LIDMOD2 was developed for evaluation of low impact development (LID) and best management practice (BMP) by modification of Site Evaluation Tool (SET). The modification includes employment of SCS-CN method for annual runoff simulation, unit load method for annual pollutant loads simulation, and the method proposed by Korean TMDL for calculating pollutant reduction by BMPs. The CN values were updated with regionalized parameters within Nack-Dong River basin because these are important parameters for simulating hydrology. LIDMOD2 was tested by applying to Andong Bus terminal. As a simulation results, pollutant loads and surface runoff will be significantly increased by post-development without LID compared with those from pre-development. LID technique was simulated to efficiently reduce surface runoff and pollutant load and increase infiltration. LIDMOD2 is screening level tool and easy to use because LIDMOD2 is based on spread sheet and most of parameters are regionalized. LIDMOD2 was illustrate that it could evaluate LID well by summarizing and graphing annual hydrology, annual pollutant loading, and hydrograph for event storm. The calculation methods related with pollutant loads are employed from the guideline of Korean TMDL and it can be useful tool for Korean TMDL to evaluate the effect of LID/BMP on developing area.

  • The trend of water vapor contents in atmosphere is one of key elements for studying climate change. The tropospheric products, i.e., ZTD values achieved through GPS data processing can retrieve the amount of water vapor with higher temporal and spatial resolution than any other instruments. In this study, the tropospheric products of KASINET for a time period from 2001 to 2014 are reprocessed using PPP strategy and the products from the CODE's 2nd reprocessing campaign. For consistency with reprocessing activities of other networks like EPN, the VMF1 mapping function and non-tidal loading effect due to atmospheric pressure are applied in the process. The reprocessing results are investigated through comparing with the CODE's 2nd reprocessing products by including some IGS stations in the process and also calculating weekly coordinate repeatability to see the quality of the processing. After removing outliers based on the variation of averaged formal error, all processed stations have similar variations of formal error about 2 mm which is lower than that of the IGS final product. Comparison results with the CODE's 2nd reprocessing products show that the overall mean difference is found to be -0.28±5.54 mm which is similar level of the previous studies. Finally, the ZTD trends of all KASINET stations are calculated and the averaged trend is achieved as 0.19 mm/yr. However, the trend of each month shows different amounts and directions from -1.26 mm/yr in May to 1.18 mm/yr in August. In conclusion, the reprocessed tropospheric product and applied strategy of this study has enough quality as one of reliable solution for a reference product for Korean Peninsula which is needed to use GPSbased tropospheric product for climate change research.

  • Background: Breast cancer is one of the most frequent cancer types within female populations. Silibinin is a chemotherapeutic agent ative against cancer. Niosomes are biodegradable, biocompatible, safe and effective carriers for drug delivery. Objective:To prepare nanoniosomal silibinin and evaluate its cytotoxicity inthe T-47D breast cancer cell line. Materials and Methods: Niosomes were prepared by reverse phase evaporation of a mixture of span 20, silibinin, PEG-2000 and cholesterol in chloroform and methanol solvent (1:2 v/v). The solvent phase was evaporated using a rotary evaporator and the remaining gel phase was hydrated in phosphate buffer saline. Mean size, size distribution and zeta potential of niosomes were measured with a Zetasizer instrument and then nanoparticles underwent scanning electron microscopy. The drug releasing pattern was evaluated by dialysis and the cytotoxicity of nanoniosomes in T-47D cells was assessed by MTT assay. Results: Particle size, size variation and zeta potential of the niosomal nanoparticles were measured as $178.4{\pm}5.4nm$, $0.38{\pm}0.09$ and $-15.3{\pm}1.3mV$, respectively. The amount of encapsulated drug and the level of drug loading were determined $98.6{\pm}2.7%$ and $22.3{\pm}1.8%$, respectively; released drug was estimated about $18.6{\pm}2.5%$ after 37 hours. The cytotoxic effects of nanoniosome were significantly increased when compared with the free drug. Conclusions: This study finding suggests that silibinin nanoniosomes could serve as a new drug formulation for breast cancer therapy.

  • The relationship between bone mineral density and the environmental factors were investigated from the view point of preventing osteoporosis in Korean pubescent girls. The effects of calcium, nutrient intake, physical activity on total bone mineral density, lumbar spine and femoral bone mineral density and total bone mineral content were evaluated 33 healthy pubescent girls aged 14∼16y. A convenient method was used to assess nutritional and energy intake and calcium index was used together. Calcium intake in childhood was estimated by asking whether subjects usually drank milk as children. Eating habits data and history of menstruation were obtained by questionnaire and interview. Average energy expenditure was calculated. Bone mineral density and content were measured by dual energy x-ray absorptiometry using a Lunar DPX+Scanner (Lunar, Madison, WI). The lumbar spine(L2∼L4) and three sites in the proximal femur (femoral neck, trochanteric region, and Ward's triangle)were measured. Height and weight were measured, and the body mass index(BMI) was derived from the formula : BMI=kg/㎡ Statistical analysis was performed by simple correlation using the SAS package. The mean calcium intake (736mg) was below the RDA of 800mg/d. Twelve percent of the total subjects did not drink milk at all because they did not like the taste. Skipping meals, low calcium intake and low energy intake were significantly correlated with the low BMD. Also the data indicate that girls who reported drinking milk with every meal during childhood had significantly higher bone densities than girls who reported drinking milk less frequently. The results suggest that milk consumption in childhood appears to be needed not only for growth and development, but possibly also to assure an optimal peak of bone mass and thus greater latitude for the maintenance or skeletal integrity in the face of bone losses. There was a highly significant correlation between the total BMD and overall level of physical activity. Body weight was a better predictor of total BMD than was and other factor. Simple mechanical loading may explain why body weight, but total BMC was positively relatd to height. Conclusively, increasing calcium intake and physical activity in the pubescent girls could influence BMD.

  • To determine the static buckling loads and evaluate the structural performance of slender steel pipe-arches such as for greenhouse structures, a series of modal tests using a fixed hammer and roving sensors was carried out, by providing no load, then a range of vertical loads, on an arch rib in several steps. More attention was given to an internal arch where vertical and horizontal auxiliary members are not placed, unlike an end arch. Modal parameters such as natural frequencies, mode shapes and damping ratios were extracted using more advanced system identification methods such as PolyMAX (Polyreference Least-Squares Complex Frequency Domain), and compared with those predicted by commercial FEA (Finite Element Analysis) software ANSYS for various conditions. A good correlation between them was achieved in an overall sense, however the reduction of natural frequencies due to the existence of preaxial loads was not apparent when the vertical load level was about up to 38% of its resistance. Some difficulties related to the field testing and parameter extraction for a very slender arch, as might arise from the influences of neighboring members, are carefully discussed.

  • To suggest a modified shallow foundation design method which can be considered the scale effect of foundation on IGM(intermediate geomaterial) soil layer, the weathered soil layer that is uniformly formed up to 8m(2B) with over 50 N-value is selected and 3 times field loading tests are performed on several sized square-shaped shallow foundations with 30, 75, 150, 240 and 400cm in width respectively. Because the soil modulus of elasticity(Es) calculated by soil investigation and 1st field test(PBT) results showed an underestimated tendency, a modified correlation is required for the reasonable estimation of Es on the weathered soil. Also, the N-value was increased with an increasing in depth. However, the N-values around the test foundations showed the different values even though the foundations on the same level because the test site was arranged by excavation. Therefore, the more detail soil investigations are required for the each test foundations respectively. Since Es based on elasticity theory is determined by the stress distribution shape of the foundation and elasticity modulus of the soil, the scale effect considered pressure-settlement curve can be clearly derived from the correlation on stress distribution shape and the variation of soil elasticity modulus with depth. Therefore, the modified correlation will be suggested to estimate a reasonable Es on the weathered soil, and the scale effect considered shallow foundation design method is also developed based on the elastic theory and field tests in this research.

  • It has been studied that the measurement of odor component emission at confectionery manufacture. The objects of this study were to investigate reduction of offensive odor. The survey effects of odorous materials are presented as follows. The countermeasure of operating process is to minimize sludge sediment in each unit facility. Especially, in summer, we have to clean the sludge frequently, because anaerobic decomposing is likely to occur easily. The sludge or scum from sedimentation tank pond, and floating tank should be treated quickly. We should avoid overloading operation. In the case of overloading, dissolved oxygen should be increased, the quality of wastewater input should be decreased. When dried cakes from condense tank or floating tank are left in treatment plant, we should cover, to prevent diffusion of smell with masking materials. The seasonal condition of operating should be fixed and the kind of coagulants should be changed because the wastewater in each season have different loading rates and organic materials. Odorous materials are very sensitive to the seasonal temperature variation. Especially, when the amount of rainfall is small and the high temperature of maintenance in long periods, air diffusion rate is large, so odorous materials can make great effect on surroundings comparision with other periods. To reduce odorous gas, as short term method, we had better take ceramic addition method. Especially, in summer we should take ceramic addition method. Also, as long term method, the size of wastewater treatment facility is the most important in the normal operating of wastewater treatment facility. But wastewater treatment facilities in this factory are too old, treatment process is old fashion, and the size is too small. So, large wastewater quantity to treat in summer. As results, the expansion of wastewater treatment facility and the process of improvement are required. Restriction level of odor was exceed. As it is overloaded in summer, the basis cause of odor is that the size of wastewater treatment facility is small. The prediction of air quality equilibrium density variation show that the odorous materials from working place are Amine materials whose smell strength is about 2.5(a little strong degree). We can suppose that in summer is sensitive to temperature variation, smell strength is larger as to reduce the origin of odor. We must expand wastewater treatment facility and improve the process A.S.A.P.

  • A Study on the Fracture Strength of All-Ceramic Crown according to the Zirconia Coping Design using CAD/CAM System L. Bulgan, In-Ho Cho, Soo-Yeon Shin Department of Prosthodontics, Graduate School, Dankook University The fracture strength of prosthesis is important, because it affects the function, and long term success of prosthesis and teeth. The purpose of this study was to compare the fracture strength of zirconia coping designs. Experimental test group were classified into three designs according to coping design, Modified design: Zirconia coping margin was located at 1mm above the axiogingival line angle. Collarless design: The coping margin terminated at the axiogingival line angle Butt design: The coping margin was extended to the finishing line of prepared margin. A $Cercon^{(R)}$(Degussa, Germany) CAD/CAM system was used to make the zirconia coping. Fracture strength was measured using loading machine at a cross head speed of 1mm/min. The results were statistically analyzed using the one-way ANOVA and multiple comparison test. Statistical significance was set in advance at the probability level of less than 0.05. The result : I. Collarless($738N{\pm}155N$) and Modified($755N{\pm}185N$) groups showed significantly a lower fracture strength than Butt($1057N{\pm}262N$) group(p<0.05). II. There were no statistical differences of the fracture strength between Modified($755N{\pm}185N$) and Collarless($738N{\pm}155N$) groups. III. When comparing the fractured surface, all the group showed porcelain fracture, which were fractured at the labial surface of baked porcelain The butt design of the zirconia coping has higher fracture strength than modified and collarless design.
