Finite Element Stress Analysis in Supporting Bone according to Crest Module Shape of Fixture in Internal Connection System (내측연결 시스템에서 임플란트 고정체의 경부 형태에 따른 지지골에서의 유한요소 응력분석)

  • The external contour of an implant can have significant effects on the load transfer characteristics and may result in different bone failure rates for different implant system. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of crest module shape and occlusal load direction on bone failure modes of five commercially available dental implant systems. Five different implant systems with internal connection; ITI (Model 1), Astra (Model 2), Bicon (Model 3), Friadent (Model 4), and Paragon (Model 5), comparable in size, but different in thread profile and cest module shapes, were compared using the finite element method. Conclusively, in the internal connection system of the implant-abutment connection methods, the stress-induced pattern at the supporting bone according to the abutment connection form had differenence among them, and implants with narrowing crestal module cross-sections at the top of the cortical bone created more favorable load transfer characteristics in this region. But it is considered that the future study is necessary about how this difference in the magnitude of the stress have an effect on the practical clinic.

  • This paper presents the design, fabrication and performance of a reinforced concrete beam strengthened by GFRP box plate and its possibility for structural rehabilitations. The load capacity, ductility and failure mode of reinforced concrete structures strengthened by FRP box plate were investigated and compared with traditional FRP plate strengthening method. This is intended to assess the feasibility of using FRP box plate for repair and strengthening of damaged RC beams. A series of four-point bending tests were conducted on RC beams with or without strengthening FRP systems the influence of concrete cover thickness on the performance of overall stiffness of the structure. The parameters obtained by the experimental studies were the stiffness, strength, crack width and pattern, failure mode, respectively. The test yielded complete load-deflection curves from which the increase in load capacity and the failure mode was evaluated.

Experimental behavior of eccentrically loaded R.C. short columns strengthened using GFRP wrapping

  • This paper aims to study the behavior of short reinforced concrete columns confined with external glass Fiber Reinforced Polymers (GFRP) sheets under eccentric loads. The experimental part of the study was achieved by testing 9 specimens under eccentric compression. Three eccentricity ratios corresponding to e/t = 0, 0.10, 0.50 in one direction of the column were used. Specimens were divided into three groups. The first group was the control one without confinement. The second group was fully wrapped with GFRP laminates before loading. The third group was wrapped under loading after reaching 75% of failure loads of the control specimens. The third group was investigated in order to represent the practical case of strengthening a loaded column with FRP laminates. All specimens were loaded until failure. The results show that GFRP laminates enhances both failure load and ductility response of eccentrically loaded column. Moreover, the study also illustrates the effect of confinement on the first crack load, lateral deformation, strain in reinforcement and failure pattern. Based on the analysis of the experimental results, a simple model has been proposed to predict the improvement of load carrying capacity under different eccentricity ratios. The predicted equation takes into consideration the eccentricity to cross section depth ratio, the ultimate strength of GFRP, the thickness of wrapping laminate, and the time of wrapping (before loading and under loading). A good correlation was obtained between experimental and analytical results.

  • It is important to select an optimal capacity for equipment, because the initial cost of new and renewable energy system is more expensive than that of exiting system. An optimal equipment and enhanced rate of operation can be selected, to analyze the cooling and heating load of buildings. In this study, seawater heat pump system in the Jeju area will be applied, by the heat source equipment of district heating. The loads of buildings are analyzed from existing researches, to select optimal capacity of equipment. Also, an optimal rate of building use will be set up, from a combination of buildings.

  • This paper investigates the constant-level luffing and time optimal control of jib cranes. The constant-level luffing, which is the sustainment of the load at a constant height during luffing, is achieved by analyzing the kinematic relationship between the angular displacement of a boom and that of the main hoist motor of a jib crane. Under the assumption that the main body of the crane does not rotate, the equations of motion of the boom are derived using Newton's Second Law. The dynamic equations for the crane system are highly nonlinear; therefore, they are linearized under the small angular motion of the load to apply linear control theory. This paper investigates the time optimal control from the perspective of no-sway at a target point. A stepped velocity pattern is used to design the moving path of the jib crane. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the time optimal control, in terms of anti-sway motion of the load, while luffing the crane.

  • This paper presents the effects of an increase or a decrease of a power reserve by load flow calculations under the seasonal load patterns of each country for the future power shortages faced by the metropolitan areas or by the southeastern area of South Korea in North-East Asia. In this paper, the various cases of the power system interconnections in Far-East Asia are presented, and the resulting interconnected power systems are simulated by means of a power flow analysis performed with the PSS/E 28 version tool. Data for simulation were obtained from the 2-th long term plan of electricity supply and demand in KEPCO. The power flow map is drawn from simulated data and the comparative study is done. In the future, a power flow analysis will be considered to reflect the effects of seasonal power exchanges. And the plan of assumed scenarios will be considered with maximum or minimum power exchanges during summer or winter in North-East Asian countries.

Automatic Control System for the Stringing Transmission Wire by the Measured Tension (장력측정에 의한 가설 송전선의 시스템 자동화)

  • As transmission line is installed by manual operation, it is necessary to scheme the automatic system for stringing transmission wire. For this necessity, the objective of this paper is developed automatic control system for a stringing of transmission wire. In this paper, transmission wire with suspended pattern and ac servo motor for torque generating are modeled. On the basis of wire model, algorithms to determine the reference tension is presented, so as the dip of transmission wire is keep constancy. The control scheme is proposed by the ac servo motor for torque generation and a load cell for a detected tension of transmission wire and implemented. We experimentally show that the performance of the tension response is satisfactory. And also proposed scheme verified the utilities for tension control of transmission wire.

  • 최근에 들어서 전력산업에 규제완화가 도입되면서 환경이 급변하고 있는 실정이다. 여러 가지의 환경변화가 예상되지만, 그 중에서도 공급자간에 경쟁 도입이 전력산업 참여자간에 주요 이슈로 부상하고 있다. 이와 같은 변화는 전력시스템의 기술 개발 뿐만 아니라 경영전략에도 큰 영향을 미치고 있으며, 대 수요자 서비스의 제공이 전략의 핵심이 되고 있다. 따라서 공급자는 보다 나은 서비스를 제공하기 위해서, 수요자 정보의 수집 및 분석을 해야 할 필요가 있다. 이와 같은 수요자 정보의 분석은 여러분야가 있지만 그 중에서도 수요특성을 파악하는 것이 가장 기본이 된다. 수요 특성은 원격검침시스템에서 수집되는 load profile 데이터로써 표현된다. 본 논문에서는 전력 수요자의 부하 특성을 분석하고 명가하기 위하여 수요특성별로 그룹으로 분류하는 방법을 개발하고, 분류된 그룹의 특징을 검토하였다. 이와 같은 부하분석의 정보는 가격설계, 수요 핀 에너지 예측, 송전 및 배전 계획, 에너지 효율 향상 및 부하관리의 필수 자료가 된다. 또한 향후에 개발될 전력 부가서비스의 주요 기반이 될 것으로 예상된다.

λ/64-spaced compact ESPAR antenna via analog RF switches for a single RF chain MIMO system

  • In this study, an electronically steerable parasitic array radiator (ESPAR) antenna via analog radio frequency (RF) switches for a single RF chain MIMO system is presented. The proposed antenna elements are spaced at ${\lambda}/64$, and the antenna size is miniaturized via a dielectric radome. The optimum reactance load value is calculated via the beamforming load search algorithm. A switch simplifies the design and implementation of the reactance loads and does not require additional complex antenna matching circuits. The measured impedance bandwidth of the proposed ESPAR antenna is 1,500 MHz (1.75 GHz-3.25 GHz). The proposed antenna exhibits a beam pattern that is reconfigurable at 2.48 GHz due to changes in the reactance value, and the measured peak antenna gain is 4.8 dBi. The reception performance is measured by using a $4{\times}4$ BPSK signal. The measured average SNR is 17 dB when using the proposed ESPAR antenna as a transmitter, and the average SNR is 16.7 dB when using a four-conventional monopole antenna.

A completely non-contact recognition system for bridge unit influence line using portable cameras and computer vision

  • Currently most of the vision-based structural identification research focus either on structural input (vehicle location) estimation or on structural output (structural displacement and strain responses) estimation. The structural condition assessment at global level just with the vision-based structural output cannot give a normalized response irrespective of the type and/or load configurations of the vehicles. Combining the vision-based structural input and the structural output from non-contact sensors overcomes the disadvantage given above, while reducing cost, time, labor force including cable wiring work. In conventional traffic monitoring, sometimes traffic closure is essential for bridge structures, which may cause other severe problems such as traffic jams and accidents. In this study, a completely non-contact structural identification system is proposed, and the system mainly targets the identification of bridge unit influence line (UIL) under operational traffic. Both the structural input (vehicle location information) and output (displacement responses) are obtained by only using cameras and computer vision techniques. Multiple cameras are synchronized by audio signal pattern recognition. The proposed system is verified with a laboratory experiment on a scaled bridge model under a small moving truck load and a field application on a footbridge on campus under a moving golf cart load. The UILs are successfully identified in both bridge cases. The pedestrian loads are also estimated with the extracted UIL and the predicted weights of pedestrians are observed to be in acceptable ranges.
