  • Open Science Project, which enables users to access and utilize public research results in a digital format, is being actively promoted overseas, and American university libraries are interested in research support service. Among the three OECD implementation measures, 'capacity building' can be effectively prepared through librarians' research support services. Therefore, this study investigated the policy of research support service implemented in leading American 13 university libraries in preparation for the open science era focusing on the recent literatures and library websites. Based on the best cases of research support service of American university libraries, I analyzed the homepage of 19 domestic research universities' library focusing on scholarly communication service and suggested improvements. In Korea, open access service and management of research data are lacking in terms of experience and expertise. This study result can be used as a basic reference when establishing the research support service plan needed in the open science era in the university library and can contribute to the improvement of the research ability of domestic researchers by introducing internationally competitive research support services.

  • This study was conducted with a view to investigating and analyzing classification and types of literature sources of Sikuquanshuzongmutiyao and the results of this study are as follows. First, the literature sources of Sikuquanshuzongmutiyao were classified mainly into five types including national version, provincial version, individual version, public official version, and societal distribution version. Second, court and Emperor's version was classified as national version, while literatures collected from state and province were classified as provincial version. Third, each of individual version and public official version, which were not clearly differentiated from each other due to their being named private version, were distinctively and separately classified. They were classified into individual version if associated by province name and book owners' names and into public official version if associated by public post names and public official's name. Fourth, societal distribution version included distributed and purchased versions in the society of those days. Fifth, in terms of the number of literature listed in all descriptions of Sikuquanshu, provincial version, national version, individual version, public official version, and societal distribution version were more found in the descending order. Sixth, it was found out that causes are being a little more stressed in the description of reference names of Sikuquanshuzongmutiyao through 1) public post names on public official version, 2) company names on private version, and 3) names of societal distribution version instead of sales version.

  • Algal dynamics is controlled by multiple environmental factors such as flow dynamics, water temperature, trophic level, and irradiance. Underwater irradiance penetrating from the atmosphere is exponentially decreased in water column due to absorption and scattering by water molecule and suspended particles including phytoplankton. As the exponential decrease in underwater irradiance affects algal photosynthesis, regulating their spatial distribution, it is critical to understand the light extinction characteristics to find out the mechanisms of algal dynamics more systematically. Despite the significance, the recent data have been rarely reported in the main stream areas of large rivers, Korea. In this study, the euphotic depths and light extinction coefficients were determined by monitoring the vertical variation of underwater irradiance and water quality in the main channel of Nakdong River near Dodong Seowon once a week during summer of 2016. The average values of euphotic depth and light extinction coefficient were 4.0 m and $1.3m^{-1}$, respectively. The degree of light extinction increased in turbid water due to flooding, causing an approximate 50 % decrease in euphotic depth. Also, the impact was greater than the self-shading effect during the periods of cyanobacterial bloom. The individual light extinction coefficients for background, total suspended solid and algal levels, frequently used in surface water quality modeling, were determined as $0.305m^{-1}$, $0.090m^{-1}/mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$, $0.013m^{-1}/{\mu}g{\cdot}L^{-1}$, respectively. The values estimated in this study were within or close to the ranges reported in literatures.

  • Objectives: Rotavirus is one of the main causes of severe diarrhea in children under five. Two types of rotavirus vaccines [$Rotarix^{(R)}$ (RV1) and $Rotateq^{(R)}$ (RV5)] have been introduced and its administration was optional in South Korea. A systematic review (SR) on economic evaluation (EE) of RV was conducted to examine whether the introduction of rotavirus vaccine to national vaccine program (NIP) is cost-effective. Methods: Previous SR studies of EE for RV were searched in August 2017 through databases such as MEDLINE and EMBASE. Additional search was performed to include literatures published after or unincluded in the previous SR studies. Among the 11 SR studies identified, 2 studies were reviewed via inclusion/exclusion criteria. A previous SR study including 104 original articles was selected by A MeaSurement Tool to Assess systematic Reviews. Among the 36 original articles identified through additional search, 10 were selected, resulting in 114 studies included in our analysis. Results: RV1-only, RV5-only, and evaluating-both studies account for about 44%, 22%, and 33%, respectively. Among RV1-only, RV5-only, or evaluating-both studies, 90%, 64%, or 68% of the studies concluded RV as being cost-effective, respectively. RV5-only studies were usually executed in high-income countries (68%), whereas RV1-only studies were executed mostly in lower (32%) and upper (26%) middle-income countries. When classifying studies by their funding sources, RV1-only studies (82%; 28 of 34 studies specifying funding sources) were chiefly supported by non-profit organization, and 100% of these studies were concluded as being cost-effective. RV5-only studies were mostly supported by profit organization (68%; 13 of 19 studies specifying sources), and 92% of these studies concluded as being cost-effective. Conclusion: By reviewing global EE studies for RV, we have learned that about 70% of these studies was shown to be cost-effective and RV1 appeared to be more cost-effective than RV5.

  • The Seonwonjeon(璿源殿) in the Deoksugung Palace was initially the ritual space for the royal family affiliated with the Gyeongungung Palace during the Korean Empire. It is currently, however, empty, as a landscape restoration and maintenance plan is established as a part of the restoration project for the Seonwonjeon area. The following results were obtained through the historical investigation of the original form and examination of similar cases. First, the original topography of the backside grove, which had been in the Seonwonjeon area, is 3.0-5.0m higher than the base of the building, and a terraced flower bed(花階) was installed on the border of the green to set off the difference in a scenic way. Second, the backside grove was composed with fruit trees to bear fruits used in rites and pine trees which symbolize the ritual space. Third, resting places were established at both ends of the site for the convenience of visitors without interrupting the atmosphere of the sacred ground. A trail was also created inside the backside grove along with minimum landscape elements, including functionally required items, such as the signboard, bench, tree guard, ramp, street lights, and landscaping lights. Fourth, the information on original planting in the palace and ritual space was extracted through historical materials, such as literatures, antique paintings, and photographs along with site surveys. Based on the information acquired, a planting plan was established for the courtyard, pedestrian road, resting places, terraced flower bed, pine grove, and fruit tree garden, which constitute the landscaping space of the Seonwonjeon area.

  • This study attempted to examine the loving pigeon culture practiced in traditional gardens and to illuminate the aspect of pigeons as a landscape animal material. In order to understand the culture of enjoying old garden through pigeons, the contents were analyzed for the translated version of the old literatures and paintings. Pigeons have been used as Jeonseo-gu(傳書鳩) and also for medicinal purposes and food. Pigeons have various symbolic meanings such as abundance, hospitality, and longevity. From the Goryeo Dynasty to the early Joseon Dynasty, pigeons were raised in the palace and private garden. In the late Joseon Dynasty, temporary trend of ornamental pigeon culture occurred. Pigeons were synesthesia materials that enriched the forest. Various beautiful pigeons created a variable landscape of the primeval forest as a moving landscape material. The bell sounds that appear differently depending on the pigeon's movement led to a rich auditory experience of the landscape. The pigeon house was an ornamental element that enriched the old garden along with the pigeon. The owners of garden were involved in gardening through the act of buying a pigeon house and placing it in the garden or making a pigeon house themselves. In addition, the writers planted plum trees, peach trees, apricot trees, and hawthorn trees as a symbol of spring and a source of food for pigeons, and expressed them in poems and paintings. This study has a limitation in that the translation of the old text was used as an analysis data. The follow-up studies on specific cases of raising pigeons in the old garden, in modern and contemporary landscape spaces are urged.

  • Traditional Chinese medicine has treated diseases and improved health in nature-based experience. Advanced nations began to be interested in naturopathic therapy in the late 19th century and it led China to research aromatherapy. This study searched previous researches related with aromatherapy and generally analyzed aroma oil, applied body parts, methods of use, and period of use. For research contents, scientific and society journals from 2000 to 2019 related with aromatherapy were searched in CNKI(www.cnki.com) and WANFANG DATE(www.wanfang.com). Finally, 30 papers were selected through 5-step qualitative evaluation and expert review and analyzed. Frequency and percentage(%) were calculated by means of the Excel 2013 Program and represented by a chart. The results of analyzing aromatherapy trends are as follows. All 30 papers were researched in the medical society. The most common symptom was irritation and anxiety that appeared in 13 papers. Lavender oil and bergamot oil were commonly used aroma oil. Commonly applied part and method were nose and nasal inhalation. For aroma oil associated with symptoms, lavender oil was the best in irritative, anxious, and negative emotion, depression, labor pain, sleep disorder, migraine, tension, and vomiting, pain, and fatigue after operation. Lemon, ginger, and peppermint oil was good for nausea. Based on the findings, this study derived applied body parts, methods of use, and period of use in aromatherapy. However, most aromatherapy was used for patients in the nursing and medical fields in the simple form of inhalation and local massage. This study will suggest a standard ground that aromatherapy is good for pain, colic pain, and tension in a short period but needs a long period for the efficacy of psychological and neurological symptoms.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the operating case of admission officer system of colleges and universities in USA, and to deduce its implications to Korean colleges and universities. In order to accomplish the purpose of this study, following methodologies were adopted: review on the related literatures, statistical data, and previous studies concerning admission officers of colleges and universities in USA, and in-depth interview with them. Historical and cultural background of university admission system of USA was analyzed. Case study on USA colleges and universities was divided with four parts such as determining factors of admission and admission methods, organization for admission affairs and its number of persons, work of admission officer and admission process, and cost of admission and salary. Implications to Korean colleges and universities were presented with three points such as overall implication, implication on materials for admission process, and implication on managing system of admission. Based on the analysis, discussion and implications, the conclusion and further suggestion of this study are as follows: First, actual authority of admission should be grant to admission officer. Second, not only non-curricular factors but also scholastic factors should be emphasized in role of admission officer. Third, education and training about work of admission officer and unification of criteria for admission should be held. Fourth, admission officers with various occupation background are needed. Fifth, work of admission officers should be extended to various work concerning university entrance. Sixth, cross-checking on marks of over two admission officers is needed. Seventh, in order to stabilize admission process, status of admission officer should be stabilized. Eighth, part-time admission officers are need to employ in season of admission. Ninth, authority of weighting high schools should be grant to admission officers in long term perspective.

  • Prior studies on Nam-myoung characteristics used to focus on practical confucianism of "Kyeong Eui (Respect and righteousness)" ideology. However, in the strict sense, what are the elements that can define Nam-myoung as a historical figure and as he has been in his time and after his death? Is it his philosophy established and derived from respect and righteousness? For this, I have a quite different view. All of literatures about Nam-myoung from his and his posterity time consistently most highly valued the idea of "Entering the government service and live in seclusion" advocated by Nam-myoung who consistently refused to be assigned any post from the government. This study aims to look into his idea by examining his personality and to find out the basis of his idea implied through the examination. He discussed the practices of "Entering the government service and live in seclusion" of other historical and present figures of his time through critical examination on them. For setting the reference for determining the reasonability for their practice of such idea, Nam-myoung pointed out "foresight" for understanding "Gimi (shade)" of which "Gi" is the diverging point of good and evil. He understood if one puts aside self-interest and observes the law of nature, one would be a good and lucky man but if one includes self-interest in the law of nature one would be a wicked man. His view on anyone entering government service when the time is against the person to obtain the post or when the person is unable to fill the post satisfactorily, was that they are 'people with self-interest' and therefore their practice of entering the government service and living in seclusion is wrong.

  • This study is a concept analysis of membership, using the evolutionary concept analysis method. Literatures published from January 2000 to January 2020 were searched on CINAHL, EBSCO, and websites of professional associations, using keywords including 'Member support', 'Member welfare', 'Professional association', 'Membership', and 'Member benefit.' Finally, 12 articles and 4 professional association website data were selected for analysis. The antecedents of membership comprised two dimensions, viz., the member level, and the association level. The antecedent at the member level included need of members, whereas antecedent at the association level was to set up a new department responsible for memberships. Attributes of the membership included 'member support', 'member professionalization', and 'member solidarity'. The consequences of membership also consisted of two dimensions: increased member satisfaction and professionality, and enhancement of rights and interests at the member level, and improvement of public awareness for the professional association at the association level. The findings of this study suggest that providing proper membership is a desirable direction of the association's member support considering the member's opinion ultimately, and propose future research for membership development. This study significantly provides the contextual basis, by identifying the antecedents, attributes, and consequences of membership.
