The shift to the digital media era is increasing the importance of the ability to accept, produce and share news through digital media(news literacy), but there is a lack of diagnosis of the level of news literacy among Korean adults and discussions on how to improve news literacy. This study analyzed the news literacy level of Korean adults according to background variables (urbanization degree, gender, age, academic background) and examined the relationship between the amount of news literacy-related practices and the level of news literacy. The results showed that the overall level of news literacy among adults in Korea was not high and that differences between groups were also statistically significant. The significant relevance between the amount of news literacy-related practices and the level of news literacy has also been identified. Based on the findings, it was suggested that the need for policy support to improve news literacy among Korean adults, the need to prioritize the resources of news literacy education according to background variables of adult learners, and the need to continuously monitor news literacy levels of Korean adults.
Purpose This study explores the development direction of the artificial intelligence curriculum as a universal education that enhances the ability of college students to flexibly use artificial intelligence these days, where artificial intelligence education is spreading, and the educational components based on this are subdivided according to the characteristics of each major. Design/methodology/approach In order to develop the educational purpose of the subject and the detailed educational curriculum suitable for the subject of education, we first analyzed domestic and foreign prior research related to artificial intelligence liberal arts education. This study aims to develop and apply the language education program model - based on balanced language education approach - on development of literacy of young children in low-income families, specially participating in Dream Start public welfare service. Development of this languge education program was based on the basic view and characteristis of balanced language education. It was progressed in accordance with Analyze-Design-Develop-implement-Evaluate(ADDIE), which is an widely-used instructional design model. Educational contents including reading skills of picture books based on whole language approach and well-structured reading and writing sequences, teaching and learning method including the principles and the strategies and teaching and learning systematic evaluation method are proposed in viewpoint of balanced language teaching approach. The application of the program was conducted targeting 20 young children participating in Dream Start welfare service from June 2015 until early November. To evaluate the effectiveness of this program, word reading inspection and nonsense word reading inspection developed by Ko, Yeon-Kyung(2002) were performed. The reflective thinking journal of visiting teachers and the satisfaction reported by parents were analysed in the qualitative research method. As a result, reading skills of young children were improved. The superiority of the program - prefernce for the picture book, interests in written languages, effectiveness of individualized language education method - was demonstrated by qualitative analysis of reflective journal. This study has the significance on presenting the executable language education model for literacy development of young children in low-income families based on balanced language education approach.
This study aimed to develop a self-reporting assessment tool for digital literacy competence to use it as a tool for self-diagnosis or effectiveness verification in educational programs, considering that digital literacy competence is one of the core competencies for the present and future society. Based on the previous research on digital literacy competence, the tool was developed with 45 question items of 2 areas and 8 factors. The results of an exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis conducted to determine suitability were generally satisfactory based on the assessment data from about 3,000 middle school students. The assessment tools developed in this study are primarily applicable to primary and secondary school and adult education. In future research, if the system is developed to be accessible to anyone online based on this tool, and the accumulated data provide educational information for each individual's self-development, it will greatly contribute to improving the digital literacy competence of the people.
The purpose of this study is to confirm the definition and the scopes of the implementation of Korean education for missionary purposes which is an area of ones for specific purposes and to suggest the teaching methods for each type by examining the subtypes of it. For this, a body of research and the related textbooks were analyzed: as a result, the definition of Korean education for missionary purposes was confirmed by examining the scope of implementation of it. Based on the definition, this study categorized the learners into four patterns such as non-Christian, the learners for listening gospel, the learners for nurturing, overseas Korean children and missionary kids according to the levels of Christianity literacy and briefly proposed the goals and teaching methods for each category. Finally, this study expected the development of the related textbooks and the activation of more segmented research in this area.

In this study, the information literacy educational program currently used by Korean universities was applied to foreign ones and its educational effect was analyzed and their degree of satisfaction and demands were understood. As a result, the educational effect was shown, but the average knowledge of academic information used still remained low, but the satisfaction degree of education for information literacy was high, which means that such education is absolutely needed for foreign students. The analyzed results and contents carried out in the experiment will be very helpful for designing a differentiated information literacy educational program for foreign students.
Mathematics is a way of thinking. To do mathematics means to think mathematically. In other words, mathematics education and mathematics literacy are related. In elementary and secondary school mathematics education in many countries, teaching of mathematics using textbooks is conducted mostly in their native language. So mathematics education takes place while reading, writing, listening, and speaking mathematics. Analysis of mathematics textbooks for the lower grades of undergraduate mathematics shows that most advanced countries in mathematics use excellent undergraduate mathematics textbooks written in their native language. However, the ratio of using imported textbooks from foreign countries is particularly high in the case of textbooks for mathematics majors at Korean universities. In this article, the effect of language used in university mathematics education is analized. In particular, the importance of high-quality leading-edge university mathematics textbooks in native language is introduced by analyzing the case of Bourbaki in France and 'War of language' at the Israel Institute of Technology. The innovation of French university mathematics education in the 20th century began with Bourbaki's 'Fundamentals of Mathematics', a French textbook written in his native language. Israel's Technion and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem continue to teach all subjects in their mother tongue. This has led to produce many Nobel Prize and Fields medal winners in these two countries. This study shows that textbooks and languages used in university mathematics education has affected mathematical literacy.
The aim of this study is to confirm the effect of the experience of media education and the media literacy, the ability to understand and use media rightly. In the research results in this study, the experience of media education has a positive effect on the critical thinking disposition. Especially, the experience of media education in school influences all constituents of the critical thinking disposition positively and the experience of media education in home also does the constituents except for only truth-seeking positively. The industrial motivation, one of factors of the media literacy, has influence on all constituents of the critical thinking disposition, and the technical use ability, one of them, does the constituents except for systematicity. And inquisitiveness, objectivity, systematicity, and self-confidence of the critical thinking disposition are affected by the self-expression of the media literacy. The media audience factor has open-mindness, systematicity, and self-confidence of the disposition, and the media language factor does truth-seeking, open-mindness, and objectivity.
The revised 2022 educational curriculum highlighted the significance of mathematical literacy as a foundational competency that can be cultivated through the learning of various subjects, along with language proficiency and digital literacy. However, due to the lack of a precise definition for mathematical literacy, there exists a challenge in systematically implementing it across all subjects in the educational curriculum. The aim of this study is to clarify the definition of mathematical literacy in the curriculum through a literature review and to analyze the application patterns of mathematical literacy in other subjects so that mathematical literacy can be systematically applied as a basic literacy in Korea's curriculum. To achieve this, the study first clarifies and categorizes the meaning of mathematical literacy through a comparative analysis of terms such as numeracy and mathematical competence via a literature review. Subsequently, the study compares the categories of mathematical literacy identified in both domestic and international educational curricula and analyzes the application of mathematical literacy in the education curriculum of New South Wales (NSW), Australia, where mathematical literacy is reflected in the achievement standards across various subjects. It is expected that understanding each property by subdividing the meaning of mathematical literacy and examining the application modality to the curriculum will help construct a curriculum that reflects mathematical literacy in subjects other than mathematics.
