  • This paper presents a disposable microfluidic infusion pump using the restoring force of elastomeric membrane of Polydimethylsiloxane. Microfluidic infusion pump consists of hydraulic resistance control part, elastomeric blister actuator part, drug inlet and outlet. Expanded elastomeric blister actuator continuously pushes liquid in the chamber to outlet. At same time, microchannel diameter near the outlet was controlled by thin elastomeric membrane in hydraulic resistance control part. Eventually flow rate of infused liquid is controlled by air pressure. In experimental study, the amount of the filled liquid in the blister is precisely controlled by the height of the blister. Flow rate of infused liquid could be controlled, that is, controlled release of the drug over time was possible by adjusting hydraulic resistance and restoring pressure with the blister actuator.

  • In the present work the influence of various physical parameters on the two-phase flow behavior in a self-heated porous medium has been studied using a numerical model, that is, the effects of heat generation rate, of porosity, of particle size, and of system pressure on the dryout process. To analyze the effect of these parameters, the variation of both liquid volumetric fraction (i.e., liquid saturation) and liquid axial velocity is evaluated at the steady state or at the onset of a first boiled-out region. The analysis of computational results indicate that a qualitative tendency exists between the parameters such as heat generation rate, porosity, effective particle diameter and the temporal development of the liquid volumetric fraction field up to dryout. In addition to these parameters, a variation of fluid properties such as phase density, phase viscosity due to a change of system pressure can be used for gaining insight into the nature of two-phase flow behavior up to dryout.

  • In the pressure swirl atomizer, the liquid is injected through tangential passages into a swirl chamber, from which it emerges with both tangential and axial velocity components to form a thin conical sheet at the nozzle exit. This sheet rapidly attenuates, finally disintegrating into ligaments and then drops. The purpose of this study is to measure the spray characteristics according to variation of viscosity of the spray produced by the pressure swirl atomizer. The nozzle tested here were especially designed for this investigation. The discharge coefficient is determined by measuring the volume flow rate with a flow meter and the cone angle of the liquid sheets issuing from the nozzle is obtained from series of photographs of the sheet for various liquid viscosity and injection pressure. And mean drop size is measured by image processing method. It is found that the geometrical characteristics of the nozzle and the variation of viscosity were the influential parameters to determine the spray characteristics such as the cone angle, discharge coefficients and SMD.

  • In many technical fields including electronics and display manufacturing processes, properties of coating liquids could be greatly enhanced by adding nanopowders and it requires efficient mixing techniques to achieve uniform dispersion of nanoparticles in liquids. This paper presents the three-dimensional CFD simulations on the flowfields of a highly viscous liquid in the large scale industrial mixer of impeller type. The effects of several important design and operation parameters such as impeller geometry, rotational speed, and degree of liquid viscosity are investigated to appreciate the mixing performance by examining the computational results for flow pattern of rotationally stirred liquid of high viscosity in the mixer.

  • Flash boiling mechanism in the injector interferes with fine fuel metering in a liquid phase LPG injection engine. This study presents a mathematical model to precisely predict an injection quantity. A calibration procedure of injection quantity, which is very prompt and precise in measuring, is developed using a gas analyzer. According to this procedure, injection quantity can be obtained under various fuel compositions, temperatures and injection pressures. The release pressure of liquid phase LPG is estimated based on these experimental data. Although the release pressure is much lower than the saturation pressure, it is linearly proportional to the saturation pressure.

  • Thrust throttling in a liquid rocket engine can be implemented via several ways such as high pressure drop injector, dual manifold, multiple chamber, pintle injector, and gas injection. Thrust throttling using gas injection controls thrust by usually injecting inert gas into propellant through an aerator to reduce the propellant's bulk density. In this study, the outside-in aerator was used in the propellant line to create two phase flow. Closed-type, open-type, and screw-type bi-swirl coaxial injectors were utilized for investigating throttling characteristics such as pressure drop, mixture density, and discharge coefficient according to gas-liquid mass ratio.

  • The effect of internal liquid flow on spray plume characteristics was performed experimentally in subsonic crossflows. The injector internal flow was classified as three modes such as a normal, cavitation, and hydraulic flip. The objectives of the research are to investigate the effect of internal liquid flow on the spray plume characteristics and compare the trajectory of spray plume with previous works. The results suggest that the trajectory of spray plume can be correlated as a function of liquid/air momentum flux ratio(q), injector diameter and normalized distance from the injector exit(x/d). It's also found that the injector internal turbulence influences the spray plume characteristics significantly.

  • The paper presents the results of the experimental study about flow discharge characteristics of double swirl coaxial injectors for a liquid rocket engine. Flow discharge characteristics of injectors become one of critical design issues for LRE combustion devices. Tap water and liquid oxygen/kerosene were used for ambient and hot firing tests, respectively. A combustion discharge coefficient varies depending on a mixture ratio and a recess ratio, and magnitudes of the variations are different with respect to injector shapes and operating conditions. The variation of a combustion discharge coefficient with a LOx injector is considered to result from flame structure changes due to physical property changes.

  • A mathematical model is presented to predict the two-phase flow and heat transfer phenomena of the evaporating extended meniscus region in a micro-channel. The pressure difference at the liquid-vapor interface can be obtained by the augmented Laplace-Young equation. The correlative equations for film thickness, pressure, and velocity in the meniscus region are derived by applying the mass, momentum, and energy equations into the control volume. The results show that increasing the heat flux and the liquid inlet velocity cause the length and liquid film thickness of the extended meniscus region to decrease. The variation, however, of the heat flux and liquid inlet velocity has no effect on the profile of film thickness. The majority of heat is transferred through the thin film region that is a very small region in the extended meniscus region. It is also found that the vapor velocity increases gradually in the meniscus region. However, it increases sharply at the junction of the meniscus and thin film regions.

  • Apparatus of rotating disk and cup are widely used spray paintings and industrial boilers. This study was conducted experimentally to investigate the characteristics of liquid atomization in a rotating disk atomizer by means of viscous liquid mixed water and glycerin. The Purpose of this study are to observe breakup mechanism according to the variation of supplied flow rate $0.4{\sim}30 cm^3/s$ and rotating speed $200{\sim}4000rpm$, and to investigate three kinds of breakup Pattern such as drop ligament and film formation by comparing the transition flow rate. ligament number and ligament length to those of Tanasawa and Matsumoto's empirical formula. The results are as follows ; The higher it makes use of viscous liquid. the better it get the characteristics of breakup mechanism. Also When I compared practical value with experiential value at similar test conditions. it was shown similar tendency though were a little variation.
