Adaptive Rate Control Scheme for Streaming-based Content Sharing Service

  • This paper presents an adaptive rate control scheme for streaming-based content sharing service. This scheme delivers multimedia contents from a user device to another device or seamlessly redirects streaming service across heterogeneous user devices. In the proposed scheme, a streaming server adjusts video quality level according to the network and client status. Our scheme is different from other rate control schemes, because the video quality at the server is decided not only based on the available bandwidth, but also based on the device characteristics and bandwidth requirement at the access network. We also propose a bandwidth estimation method to achieve more equitable bandwidth allocations among streaming flows competing for the same narrow link with different Round Trip Times (RTTs). Through the simulation, we prove that our scheme improves the network stability and the quality of streaming service by appropriately adjusting the quality of the video stream. The simulation results also demonstrate the ability of the proposed scheme in ensuring RTT-fairness while remaining throughput efficient.

  • 무선 애드혹 네트워크에서는 제한된 대역폭, 간섭, 높은 패킷 에러율로 인하여 영상과 같은 고속 데이터 전송 시 높은 전송 품질을 제공하기 어렵다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 제약을 극복하고 고품질의 고속 멀티미디어 데이터 전송을 제공하기 위하여 패킷전송성공률 기반의 종단간 경로 품질과 각 중계노드에서의 잔여 대역폭 예측을 이용하는 PBBR (Path-Quality and Bandwidth-Estimation Based Routing) 프로토콜을 제안한다. 제안된 프로토콜의 성능을 검증하기 위하여 NS2를 이용한 시뮬레이션이 수행되었으며, 시뮬레이션 결과는 제안되는 프로토콜이 기존의 라우팅 프로토콜에 비해 높은 Throughput을 획득할 수 있음을 보인다.

통계적 구간 추정에 근거한 비용과 지연시간에 조화로운 유니캐스트 라우팅을 위한 새로운 인자 (New Factor for Balancing Cost and Delay Unicast Algorithm Based on Statistic Interval Estimation)

  • 고속 네트워크에서 QoS 라우팅은 수많은 사용자의 요구를 만족하기가 매우 어렵다. 네트워크의 경로설정 알고리즘에서 측도로써 단지 링크지연시간만을 고려한다면 그 경로는 최소지연시간 경로가 될 것이며, 링크비용만을 고려한다면 최소비용경로를 찾을 것이다. 지연시간 한계의 최소비용(Delay Constrained Least Cost; DCLC)문제는 NP-hard 문제로 알려져 있으며, 두 개의 인자 경로비용과 지연시간을 혼합한문제로 생각할 수 있다. 경로설정 시 최소지연시간을 생각하면 그 경로는 상대적으로 높은 비용의 경로이며, 반대로 최소비용만을 생각하면 그 경로는 상대적으로 높은 지연시간을 얻는다. 따라서 DCLC문제를 풀기위해서는 단 하나의 인자만을 고려해서는 안 되며 두 개의 인자를 동시에 고려할 수 있는 새로운 인자를 요구하게 되었다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 DCLC 문제를 풀기위해 경로비용과 지연시간을 동시에 확률적으로 고려한 새로운 인자를 소개한다. 시뮬레이션 결과는 새로운 인자가 DCLC 문제에 적절하다는 것을 보여주었다.

SWMM과 WASP5 모형을 사용한 하구담수호의 수질 예측 (Prediction of water quality in estuarine reservoir using SWMM and WASP5)

  • SWMM and WASP5 were applied for pollutant loading estimate from watershed and reservoir water quality simulation, respectively, to predict estuarine reservoir water quality. Application of natural systems to improve estuarine reservoir water quality was reviewed, and its effect was predicted by WASP5. Study area was the Hwa-Ong reservoir in Hwasung-Gun, Kyonggi-Do. Procedures for estimation of pollutant loading from watershed and simulation of corresponding reservoir water quality were reviewed. In this study, SWMM was proved to be an appropriate watershed model to the nonurban area, and it could evaluate land use effects and many hydrological characteristics of catchment. WASP5 is a well known lake water quality model and its application to the estuarine reservoir was proved to be suitable. These models are both dynamic and the output of SWMM can be linked to the WASP5 with little effort, therefore, use of these models for reservoir water quality prediction in connection was appropriate. Further efforts to develop more logical and practical measures to predict reservoir water quality are necessary for proper management of estuarine reservoirs.

A New Routing Protocol in Wireless Ad-hoc Networks with Multiple Radios and Channels

  • We propose a new routing protocol, MCQosR, that is based on bandwidth estimation, admission control, and a routing metric, MCCR - suitable for wireless ad-hoc networks with multiple radios and channels. To use the full capacity of a wireless link, we assume a node with multiple radios for full duplex operation, and a radio using multiple channels to exclude route-intra interference. This makes it possible to use the capacity of a wireless link. Then, to provide bandwidth and delay guarantee, we have a radio with a fixed channel for layer-3 data reception at each node, used to estimate the available bandwidth and expected delay of a wireless link. Based on the estimate of available bandwidth and delay, we apply the call admission control to a new call requiring bandwidth and delay guarantee. New calls with traffic that will overflow link or network capacity are rejected so the accepted calls can use the required bandwidth and delay. Finally, we propose a routing metric, MCCR, which considers the channel contentions and collisions of a wireless link operating in CSMA/CA. MCCR is useful for finding a route with less traffic and distributing traffic over the network to prevent network congestion as much as possible. The simulation of the MCQosR protocol and the MCCR metric shows traffic is distributed and guaranteed service is provided for accepted calls.

적응형 구조를 갖는 이동통신망에서 호 저하 시간 비율 추정 (Estimation of Degradation Period Ratio for Adaptive Framework in Mobile Cellular Networks)

  • Recently there is a growing interest in mobile cellular network providing multimedia service. However, the link bandwidth of mobile cellular network is not sufficient enough to provide satisfactory services to users. To overcome this problem, an adaptive framework has been proposed. In this study, we propose a new method of estimating DPR(Degradation Period Ratio) in an adaptive multimedia network where the bandwidth of ongoing call can be dynamically adjusted during its lifetime. DPR is a QoS(Quality of Service) parameter which represents the ratio of allocated bandwidth below a pre-defined target to the whole service time of a call. We improve estimation method of DPR using DTMC(Discrete Time Markov Chain) model by calculate mean degradation period, degradation probability more precisely than in existing studies. Under Threshold CAC(Call Admission Control) algorithm, we present analytically how to guarantee QoS to users and illustrate the method by numerical examples. The proposed method is expected to be used as one of CAC schemes in guaranteeing predefined QoS level of DPR.

Asymmetric linkages between nuclear energy and environmental quality: Evidence from Top-10 nuclear energy consumer countries

  • To lay a solid basis for prosperity and competitiveness, countries should achieve balance in the three fundamental aspects: energy availability, energy affordability and ecological balance. Nuclear energy has attracted international interest as one of the most crucial environmental quality strategies. The objective of this study is to analyze the non-linear link between nuclear energy and environmental quality in the top-10 nuclear energy consumer countries (USA, China, Russia, France, Canada, Spain, Sweden, South Korea, Ukraine, and Germany). Earlier research employed panel data methodologies to examine the linkage between nuclear energy and the environment, despite the fact that many nations did not independently demonstrate such a correlation. On the alternative, this study uses a novel approach known as 'Quantile-on-Quantile,' which allows for the analysis of time-series dependence in each country by giving universal yet country-specific insights into the relationship between the variables. Estimates show that the consumption of nuclear energy improves environmental quality by lowering ecological footprint in the majority of the nations studied at certain quantiles of data. Moreover, the data demonstrate that the degree of asymmetries between our variables changes by nation, emphasizing the importance of policymakers exercising caution when adopting nuclear energy and environmental quality regulations.

유동인구 밀집지역 인근의 도로구간별 배출량 산정 및 보행자 노출 강도 평가 (Estimation of Link-Based Traffic-Related Air Pollutant Emissions and the Exposure Intensity on Pedestrian Near Busy Streets)

  • The objective of this study is to estimate the level of exposure of traffic-related air pollutants (TRAPs) on the pedestrians in Seoul area. The road network's link-based pollutant emission was calculated by using a set of mobile source emission factor package and associated activity information. The population information, which is the number of pedestrian, was analyzed in conjunction with the link-based traffic emissions in order to quantify exposure level by selected 23 spots. We proposed the Exposure Intensity, which is defined by the amount of traffic emission and the population, to quantify the probability of exposure of pedestrian. Link-based traffic NOx and PM emissions vary by up to four times depending on the location of each spot. The Hot-spots is estimated to be around 1.8 times higher Exposure Intensity than the average of the 23 selected spots. The information of Exposure Intensity of each spot allows us to develop localized policies for air quality and health. Even in the same area, the Exposure Intensity over time also shows a large fluctuation, which gives suggestions for establishing site-specific counter-measures.

버스정보 결측시 검지기 자료를 통한 버스 통행시간의 산정 (Estimation of Bus Travel Time Using Detector for in case of Missed Bus Information)

  • 버스의 서비스 질을 향상시키기 위해서 시행중인 버스정보시스템은 버스의 도착 예정시간을 산정하기 위해서 일정주기동안 통행한 버스의 데이터를 바탕으로 신경망 모형, 칼만필터링, 이동평균법등의 알고리즘을 사용하여 예측한다. 하지만 버스의 데이터 결측으로 인하여 버스의 도착 예정 시간을 산정하기 어려울 때는 버스의 시간대별 패턴 데이터를 구축하여 이를 활용하지만, 일반적으로 오차의 범위가 크다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 도착 예정 시간을 산정하기 위해 링크에 설치된 대기행렬 검지기 자료를 이용하여 버스의 링크통행 시간을 산정한다. CORSIM Version 5.1 시뮬레이션 패키지를 이용하여 검지기 지점 속도를 보정하여 검지기 지점속도를 바탕으로 버스의 통행시간을 산정한다.

WCDMA 무선 중계기에서 파일럿 간섭제거 기법의 성능평가 (Performance Evaluation of a Pilot Interference Cancellation Scheme in a WCDMA Wireless Repeater)

  • WCDMA 시스템에서는 네트워크 영역의 결정, 셀 인식, 동기화, 채널 추정, 신호 타이밍 포착 및 추적을 위해 파일럿 채널을 사용한다. 이동통신 서비스 수요의 증가로 인해 도심의 WCDMA 망 환경 하에서 단일한 무선 중계기는 다수의 인접 기지국으로부터 파일럿 신호를 수신하지만 각각의 기지국에서 송신하는 파일럿 채널을 구분하지 못하기에 파일럿 간섭 현상이 나타난다. 이러한 파일럿 간섭은 단말기에서의 잦은 핸드오프로 인한 수신 감도의 저하, 전송 효율 및 통화 품질의 저하, 채널용량의 감소와 불필요한 전력 소모 증가 등의 원인이 된다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 적응 추정 알고리즘인 NLMS 기법을 이용해서 WCDMA 무선 중계기에 적용 가능한 파일럿 간섭 제거 기법을 제안한다. 제안된 기법을 적용하여 각각 링크 레벨에서와 네트워크 레벨 에서 모의실험을 수행하여 무선 중계기 시스템에서의 성능 향상을 평가하였다. 그 결과 링크 레벨 관점에서의 BER 성능 향상과 네트워크 레벨 관점에서 시스템의 콜 드랍 확률의 향상을 각각 확인하였다.
