  • This paper describes efficient flight control algorithms for building a reconfigurable ad-hoc wireless sensor networks between nodes on the ground and airborne nodes mounted on autonomous vehicles to increase the operational range of an aerial robot or the communication connectivity. Two autonomous flight control algorithms based on adaptive gradient climbing approach are developed to steer the aerial vehicles to reach optimal locations for the maximum communication throughputs in the airborne sensor networks. The first autonomous vehicle control algorithm is presented for seeking the source of a scalar signal by directly using the extremum-seeking based forward surge control approach with no position information of the aerial vehicle. The second flight control algorithm is developed with the angular rate command by integrating an adaptive gradient climbing technique which uses an on-line gradient estimator to identify the derivative of a performance cost function. They incorporate the network performance into the feedback path to mitigate interference and noise. A communication propagation model is used to predict the link quality of the communication connectivity between distributed nodes. Simulation study is conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed reconfigurable airborne wireless networking control algorithms.

편마비 다리환자를 위한 보행보조로봇의 발목 2축 힘센서 설계 (Design of Calf Link Force Sensor of Walking Assist Robot of Leg Patients)

  • This paper describes the design and manufacture of a ankle two-axis force sensor of a walking assist robot for hemiplegic leg patient. The walking assist robot for the hemiplegic leg patient can safely control the robot by detecting whether the foot wearing the walking assist robot is in contact with the obstacle or not. To do so, a two-axis force sensor should be attached to the robot's ankle. The sensor is used to measure the force of a patient's ankle lower part. The two-axis force sensor is composed of a Fx force sensor, a Fy force sensor and a pulley, and they detect the x and y direction forces, respectively. The two-axis force sensor was designed using by FEM(Finite Element Method), and manufactured using by strain-gages. The characteristics experiment of the two-axis force sensor was carried out respectively. The test results indicated that the interference error of the two-axis force sensor was less than 1.2%, the repeatability error and the non-linearity of the two-axis force sensor was less than 0.04% respectively. Therefore, the fabricated two-axis force sensor can be used to measure the force of ankle lower part in the walking assist robot.

Improving Video Quality by Diversification of Adaptive Streaming Strategies

  • Users quite often experience volatile channel conditions which negatively influence multimedia transmission. HTTP adaptive streaming has emerged as a new promising technology where the video quality can be adjusted to variable network conditions. Nevertheless, the new technology does not remain without drawbacks. As it has been observed, multiple video players sharing the same network link have often problems with achieving good efficiency and stability of play-out due to a mutual interference and competition among video players. Our investigation indicates that there may be another cause for under-performance of the streamed video. In an emulated environment, we implemented three algorithms of adaptive video play-out based on bandwidth or buffer assessment. As we show, traffic generated by players employing the same or similar play-out strategies is positively correlated and synchronised (clustered), whereas traffic originated from different play-out strategies shows negative or no correlations. However, when some of the parameters of the play-out strategies are randomised, the correlation and synchronisation diminish what has a positive impact on the smoothness of the traffic and on the video quality perceived by end users. Our research shows that non-correlated traffic flows generated by play-out strategies improve efficiency and stability of streamed adaptive video.

QoSCM: QoS-aware Coded Multicast Approach for Wireless Networks

  • It is essential to satisfy class-specific QoS constraints to provide broadband services for new generation networks. The present study proposes a QoS-driven multicast scheme for wireless networks in which the transmission rate and end-to-end delay are assumed to be bounded during a multiple multicast session. A distributed algorithm was used to identify a cost-efficient sub-graph between the source and destination which can satisfy QoS constraints of a multicast session. The model was then modified as to be applied for wireless networks in which satisfying interference constraints is the main challenge. A discrete power control scheme was also applied for the QoS-aware multicast model to accommodate the effect of transmission power level based on link capacity requirements. We also proposed random power allocation (RPA) and gradient power allocation (GPA) algorithms to efficient resource distribution each of which has different time complexity and optimality levels. Experimental results confirm that the proposed power allocation techniques decrease the number of unavailable links between intermediate nodes in the sub-graph and considerably increase the chance of finding an optimal solution.

  • 본 논문에서는 CDMA 시스댐에 적용하기 위해 기저 대역에서 설계된 비동기식 동기 추적 회로의 성능을 이론적으로 분석하고 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션을 통해 검증한다. AWGN 채널 환경에서 지터 분산을 펼스 성형 필터, 타이밍 오프셋, 신호 대 잡음 비, 루우프 필터 계수의 함수로 이론적으로 유도하고 2차 동기 추적 회로를 중심으로 루우프 필터의 설계에 판해 고찰한다. 끝으로, 설계된 동기 추적 회로를 ETRI에서 IMT-2000을 위해 설계한 동기식 CDMA 시스템의 역방향 링크에 적용하여 AWGN과 레일라이 페이딩 환경에서의 성능을 시율레이션을 통해 검증한다.

8 Antenna Polar Switching Up-Down Relay Networks

  • In this paper, we propose a reliable $8{\times}8$ up-down switching polar relay code based on 3GPP LTE standard, motivated by 3GPP LTE down link, which is 30 bps/Hz for $8{\times}8$ MIMO antennas, and by Arikan's channel polarization for the frequency selective fading (FSF) channels with the generator matrix $Q_8$. In this scheme, a polar encoder and OFDM modulator are implemented sequentially at both the source node and relay nodes, the time reversion and complex conjugation operations are separately implemented at each relay node, and the successive interference cancellation (SIC) decoder, together with the cyclic prefix (CP) removal, is performed at the destination node. Use of the scheme shows that decoding at the relay without any delay is not required, which results in a lower complexity. The numerical result shows that the system coded by polar codes has better performance than currently used designs.

  • 본 논문에서는 CDMA 하향링크에서 최적화가 용이한 새로운 다층 신경망을 제안하고 이를 적용한 신경망 수신기를 레이크 수신기와 비교하여 CDMA 하향링크에서 간섭이 제거되어 성능이 개선되었음을 입증하였다. 새로운 다층신경망은 기존의 다층신경망에 비해 시스템 복잡도가 개선되고 최적화가 용이하면서 기존의 다층신경망과 동일한 간섭제거에 의한 성능 향상 효과를 얻을 수 있어 실제 시스템에 적용하기에 적합하다. CDMA 하향링크에서 요구되는 고속의 데이터 전송을 위해 BLAST를 시작으로 STS, STTC, STC 등 다양한 STD 기술들이 제시되었으나 타사용자의 정보부재로 다중사용자 검파가 불가하고 충분한 수의 안테나를 장착할 수 없는 하향링크의 한계로 실질적으로 채널효율증대 효과가 미흡한 실정이다. [10]-[15]이러한 문제점을 해결하기 위하여 복잡한 채널환경에 대해 적응능력이 뛰어나고, 고속의 병렬처리의 장점을 갖으며, 실시간 구현이 용이한 최적화된 단계층 신경망을 이용해서 다중사용자 간섭을 제거하였다. 여기에 STC 기술들을 접목시킨다면 CDMA 단말기의 획기적인 채널효율증대 가능성을 기대할 수 있을 것이다.

Numerical and experimental simulation of the wind field in the EXPO '98 area

  • A numerical and experimental study was performed for the wind flow field in one area, comprising a group of several pavilions separated by passageways, of the EXPO '98 - a World Exposition (Lisbon, Portugal). The focus of this study is the characterization of the flow field to assess pedestrian comfort. The predictions were obtained employing the Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes equations with the turbulence effects dealt with the ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ RNG model. The discretization of the differential equations was accomplished with the control volume formulation in a Cartesian coordinate system, and an advanced segregated procedure was used to achieve the link between continuity and momentum equations. The evaluation of the overall numerical model was performed by comparing its predictions against experimental data for a square cylinder placed in a channel. The predicted values, for the practical geometry studied, are in a good agreement with the experimental data, showing the performance and the reliability of the ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ RNG model and suggesting that the numerical simulation is a reliable methodology to provide the required information.

CATV망을 이용한 유무선 연동의 하이브리드 센서 네트워크 모델 설계 (Design of Wired and Wireless linkage Hybrid Sensor Network Model over CATV network)

  • 본 논문에서는 지그비를 이용한 무선 기반 센서 네트워크 단점을 극복하기 위하여 유무선 네트워크 연동 기술을 이용한 하이브리드 센서 네트워크 구현 방안을 제시하였다. 제안된 유무선 연동 센서 네트워크는 CATV망에서의 저손실 전송 특성을 바탕으로 실내 무선 환경의 열악한 전송 특성을 보완할 수 있으며, 마찬가지로 동일 주파수 대역의 무선랜과 블루투스의 간섭에서도 자유로울 수 있다. 또한 이미 충분한 인프라가 구축되어 있는 CATV망을 변경없이 사용하고, 기존 무선망의 전송 부정확성에 대한 안정성과 예측 가능한 전송 링크를 제공함으로써 네트워크 설계가 보다 효율적이었으며, 센서 네트워크의 안정성과 높은 신뢰성을 보장하였다.

복호 후 전달 방식을 사용하는 전이중 통신 릴레이 시스템에서의 오수신 확률 성능 분석 (Outage Probability Analysis of Full Duplex Relay with Decode and Forward Protocol)

  • 본 논문은 복호 후 전달 (decode-and-forward, DF) 프로토콜 하에서 전이중 통신방식 릴레이 (full duplex relay, FDR) 의 오수신 확률 (outage probability) 성능을 페이딩 채널하에서 유도하였다. 준기지국 형태의 고정된 릴레이를 가정하여 송신단과 릴레이 사이의 채널은 LOS (line of sight) 전파가 존재하는 Rician 채널을, 다른 링크 채널은 Rayleigh 채널을 고려하였다. 또한, 이 분석을 통해 전이중 통신 (full duplex, FD)으로 인한 간섭 문제와 자원의 효율성 향상 측면을 고려하여 실제적으로 FDR이 반이중 통신방식 릴레이 (half duplex relay, HDR) 보다 낮은 오수신 확률 성능을 가지기 위한 조건을 제시하였다. 분석된 오수신 확률 성능의 정확성은 모의 실험을 통하여 검증되었다.
