  • Most accidents of medium-voltage cables installed in nuclear power plants result from the initial defect of internal insulators or the initial failure due to poor construction. However, as the service years of plants increase, the possibility of cable accidents is also rapidly increases. This is primarily caused by electric, mechanical, thermal, and radiation stresses. Recently, much attention is paid to the study of cable diagnoses. To date, partial discharge and Tan${\delta}$ measurements are known as reliable methods to diagnose the aging of medium-voltage cables. High frequency partial discharge measurement techniques have been widely used to diagnose cables in transmission and distribution systems. However, the on-line high frequency partial discharge technique has not been used in the nuclear power plants because of the plant shutdown risk, degraded measurement sensitivity, and application problems. In this paper, the partial discharge measurement with a portable device was tried to evaluate the integrity of the 4.16kV and 13.8kV cable lines. The test results show that the high detection sensitivity can be achieved by the high frequency partial discharge technique. The present technique is highly attractive to diagnose medium voltage cables in nuclear power plants.

  • Most of electrical fires are caused by short circuits, overheating of wires, deterioration and incomplete connection of wiring devices. The last two cases are predictable before the occurrence of fire because of its slow progress. In this paper, we have simulated the discharge signals caused by the deterioration and incomplete connection of wiring devices using an aged concent to provide information on the characteristics of discharge signals. From the experimental data, we could characterize the frequency spectrums of the discharge signals depending on the cases. The higher frequency components of the signal are attenuated by the capacitance and inductance of power lines as the measuring point is getting away from the discharges. Main frequency components of the discharge signal are existent at 600 kHz - 1.5 MHz in incomplete connections and at 210 kHz - 8 Mhz in deteriorations of the concent.

  • Bacterial hemoglobin from Vitreoscilla (VHb) is recognized as a good fusion protein for the soluble expression of foreign protein. In this study, we generated a monoclonal antibody (MAb) against VHb for its detection. For the rapid screening of MAb, a protein chip technology based on the Alexa-488 (A488) dye labeling method was introduced. In order to fabricate the chip, the VHb protein was chemically coupled to the chip surface and then the culture supernatants of 84 hybridoma cell lines were spotted onto the VHb chip. The bound MAbs were measured by A488-modified anti-mouse IgG. A single spot (MAb A10) exhibited significantly high signal intensity. The immunoblot analysis evidenced that the MAb A10 can detect VHb-fused proteins with high specificity.

  • A musical sheet is read by optical music recognition (OMR) systems that automatically recognize and reconstruct the read data to convert them into a machine-readable format such as XML so that the music can be played. This process, however, is very challenging due to the large variety of musical styles, symbol notation, and other distortions. In this paper, we present a model for the recognition of musical symbols through the use of a mobile application, whereby a camera is used to capture the input image; therefore, additional difficulties arise due to variations of the illumination and distortions. For our proposed model, we first generate a line adjacency graph (LAG) to remove the staff lines and to perform primitive detection. After symbol segmentation using the primitive information, we use a covariance-matching method to estimate the similarity between every symbol and pre-defined templates. This method generates the three hypotheses with the highest scores for likelihood measurement. We also add a global consistency (time measurements) to verify the three hypotheses in accordance with the structure of the musical sheets; one of the three hypotheses is chosen through a final decision. The results of the experiment show that our proposed method leads to promising results.

  • Cytoplasmic male sterility (CMS) in plants, which is due to failure to produce functional pollen, is a maternally inherited trait. Specific nuclear genes that suppress CMS, termed fertility restorer (Rf) genes, have been identified in several plants. In this study, Rfl-inked molecular markers in pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) were detected by bulked segregant analysis of eight amplified fragment length polymorphisms (AFLPs). Only AFRF8 was successfully converted to a cleaved amplified polymorphic sequence (CAPS) marker. This was named AFRF8CAPS and genotype determination using it agreed with that obtained with the original AFRF8. A linkage map with a total size of 54.1 cM was constructed with AFRF8CAPS and the seven AFLP markers using the Kosambi function. The AFRF8CAPS marker was shown to be closest to Rf with a genetic distance of 1.8 cM. These markers will be useful for fast and reliable detection of restorer lines during $F_1$ hybrid seed production and breeding programs in pepper.

  • Recently, many streaming videos including drama, music videos, and movies have been extensively given on the web. Such video services are on negative lines in any service restriction depending on the age of users and then whole part of a video have been restricted considering the age of users. Therefore, in this paper, we will present a new method that provides the access depending on the ages of users and also sets the video rating of each scene in a video. To get this restricted access for video, we will first divide a streaming video into many scenes using histogram techniques. Each scene gets an access control depending on the nudity level. Finally, we will make the video indexing including the access level depending on its nudity level and then hide restricted scenes using several masks in playing that streaming video.

  • In this paper, we propose a sorting method for extracting accurate license plate information, which is currently used in Korea, after detecting objects using YOLO. We propose sorting methods for the five types of vehicle license plates managed by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport by classifying the plates with the number of lines, Korean characters, and numbers. The results of experiments with 5 license plates show that the proposed algorithm identifies all license plate types and information by focusing on the object with high reliability score in the result label file presented by YOLO and deleting unnecessary object information. The proposed method will be applicable to all systems that recognize license plates.

  • Among the autonomous driving systems based on visual sensors, the control method using a vanishing point is the most general method for autonomous driving. However, if the lane is lost or does not exist, it is very difficult to detect this and estimate the vanishing point. In this paper, we predict the vanishing point of the road and the vanishing point lines on the left and right sides using CNN for the camera image and design the steering controller for autonomous driving from the predicted results. As a result of the simulation, it was confirmed that the proposed method well tracked the center of the road regardless of the presence or absence of a solid lane, and was superior to the control method using a general method using the vanishing point.

  • This paper proposes a testable design method of PLA's with low overhead and high fault coverage for multiple faults. Only a shift register and control input of 2-bit decoder are used for extra hardware. By using a control input, the bit lines are controlled effectively. As the fault model, bridging faults and multiple faults of different fault models are particularly considered. 'Fault equivalence relation' and 'dominant faults' are defined to be used for detection of multiple faults. Also, an eadily testable folded PLA by this method is described.

  • We present high resolution spectroscopic observations of transverse magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) waves in mottles located near the solar disk center. Different from previous studies that used transversal displacements of the mottles in the imaging data, we investigated the line-of-sight (LOS) velocity oscillations of the mottles in the spectral data. The observations were carried out by using the Fast Imaging Solar Spectrograph of the 1.6 meter Goode Solar Telescope of Big Bear Solar Observatory. Utilizing the spectral data of the Hα and Ca II 8542 Å lines, we measure the LOS velocity of a quiet region including the mottles and rosettes that correspond to the footpoints of the mottles. Our major findings are as follows: (1) Alfvénic waves are pervasive in the mottles. (2) The dominant period of the waves is 2 to 4 minutes. (3) From the time-distance maps of the three-minute filtered LOS velocity constructed along the mottles, it is revealed that the transverse waves in the mottles are closely related to the longitudinal waves in the rosettes. Our findings support the notion that Alfvénic waves can be generated by mode conversion of the slow magnetoacoustic waves as was shown in sunspot regions by Chae et al. (2021).
