  • Various types of predator-prey systems are studied in terms of the stabilities of their steady-states. Necessary conditions for the existences of non-negative constant steady-states for those systems are obtained. The linearized stabilities of the non-negative constant steady-states for the predator-prey system with monotone response functions are analyzed. The predator-prey system with non-monotone response functions are also investigated for the linearized stabilities of the positive constant steady-states.

  • For the initially quiescent fluid layer, the principle of the exchange of stabilities for the Marangoni convection due to the impulsive temperature change is proven analytically. Under the linear stability theory, the temperature and vertical velocity disturbances are express as the liner combination of the orthogonal functions. It is shown that the growth rate of the temperature disturbance is the real function for all positive Marangoni numbers.

  • We investigate sorry: asymptotic stabilities of the zero solution for the perturbed linear differential system dx/dt=A(t)x+e(t, x)+f(t,x), by using Perron's method and integral inequalities, etc. and we also find some sufficient conditions that ensure some asymptotic stabilities of the zero solution of the system And hence we obtain several results of it.

  • Handling performance of a vessel is greatly related with her steering characteristics which consist of two kinds of motion characteristics ; namely course stability and turning ability. The correct prediction of the qualities, especially the steering characteristics is as much important in ship handling as in ship design. It is the purpose of this paper to provide ships handlers better understanding of steering characteristics and then to help them in safe controlling and maneuvering of vessels presenting distinct inherent steering characteristic difference that lies between a fine-form vessel and full-form vessel. The authors calculated dynamic course stabilities of two kinds of ideal models, one of which represents a fine-form ship and the other a full-form ship, based on hydrodynamic data of forces and moments obtained by model tests in maneuvering tanks. The result of calculations indicated that a ship of full-form configuration has inhernet course instability. Though significant nonlinearties affect ship montions in maneuvers, application of linear theory is sufficient for prediction of the maneuvering characteristics of vessels on calm waters for handling reference.

  • Recently, laser processing technologies have been developed in many different industrial fields. The laser processing technologies are widely being applied such as laser assisted machining, cladding, heat treatment and coating. In the laser modules of the laser assisted machining system, laser lens is very important for accuracy and productivity of product. As the laser beam size, shape and focusing distance change, heat input energy of preheating point can be changed, the laser module of the laser assisted machining system should be equipped with various lenses differing beam size, beam shape and focusing distance. In this study, the rotary and linear laser modules are suggested. The finite element analysis is carried out to certify the static and dynamic stabilities of the developed laser modules. Finally, the rotary and linear laser modules have been fabricated successfully using the analysis results.

  • The effects of nozzle arrangements, nozzle distances and fuel flowrates on the flame stabilities such as flame length, liftoff height and blowout characteristics are investigated experimentally. Three nozzle arrangements - diamond 4 nozzle, linear 5 nozzle, cross 5 nozzle- are used. Flame interactions result in the increase of the blowout flowrates and constant turbulent liftoff heights. The flames separated about 10 nozzle diameters are sustained as nozzle attached flames to the higher fuel flowrates than the other separation cases. Normally flames are extinguished at the lifted states. Blowout flowrates are affected by the nozzle configuration, nozzle seperation distance. Blowout flowrates for the diamond- or cross- shaped nozzle arrangements are parabolic function of nozzle distances. Maximum blowout flowrates for the 5 nozzle configuration case except linear one is about 2.9 times that of single equivalent nozzle case. Turbulent liftoff heights are not function of flowrates for the interacting flames.

  • In this paper, we study an area-preserving piecewise linear map with the feature of dangerous border collision bifurcations. Using this map, we study dynamical properties occurred in the invariant set, specially related to the boundary of KAM-tori, and the existence and stabilities of periodic orbits. The result shows that elliptic regions having periodic orbits and chaotic region can be divided by smooth curve, which is an unexpected result occurred in area preserving smooth dynamical systems.

  • The dissociation kinetics of linear polyaminopolycarboxylate complexes of lanthanide ions (L$n^{3+}: Ce^{3+},\;Eu^{3+}\;and\;Yb^{3+}$) has been studied in an aqueous solution of 0.10 M (NaCl$O_4$) at 25.0${\pm}0.1^{\circ}C$ using Cu(II) ions as a scavenger. The dissociation rates of acid-catalyzed pathway decrease in the order Ln(EPDTA$)^- > Ln(DPOT)^- > In(TMDTA)^- > Ln(MPDTA)^- > Ln(EDTA)^- > Ln(PDTA)^- > Ln(DCTA)^-$ according to the present and literature data. An increase in the N-Ln-N chelate ring from 5 to 6 and substitution of two methyl groups, one ethyl and hydroxyl group on a chelate ring carbon of these ligands leads to a decrease in kinetic stabilities of the complexes. The substitution of one methyl group and cyclohexyl ring on a ring carbon, however, results in a significant increase in the kinetic stability of the resulting $Ln^{3+}$ complexes. Individual reaction steps taking place for each system, with different copper, acetate buffer concentration and pH dependence, are also discussed.

  • This paper deals with the design and evaluation of the robust controller for generator excitation system to improve the steady state and transient stabilities. The nonlinear characteristics of the system is treated as model uncertainties, and then the robust control techniques are introduced into the PSS design to take into account these uncertainties at the controller design stage. The performance of the designed controller is examined by extensive non-linear time domain simulation. It is shown that the performance of the robust controller is superior to that of the conventional PSS in all cases studied.

  • We fabricated a new type of hybrid film using molecular layer deposition (MLD). The MLD is a gas phase process analogous to atomic layer deposition (ALD) and also relies on a saturated surface reaction sequentially which results in the formation of a monolayer in each sequence. In the MLD process, polydiacetylene (PDA) layers were grown by repeated sequential surface reactions of titanium tetrachloride and 2,4-hexadiyne-1,6-diol with ultraviolet (UV) polymerization under a substrate temperature of $100^{\circ}C$. Ellipsometry analysis showed a self-limiting surface reaction process and linear growth of the hybrid films. Polymerization of the hybrid films was confirmed by infrared (IR) spectroscopy and UV-Vis spectroscopy. Composition of the films was confirmed by IR spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron (XP) spectroscopy. The titanium oxide cross-linked polydiacetylene (TiOPDA) hybrid films exhibited good thermal and mechanical stabilities.
