  • In this study an air flow meter was developed for MPI engine using ultrasonic sensors. The major characteristcs of the ultrasonic flow meter are high speed response, flow direction recognition and linear output. The air flow rate measurements were conducted at upstream of the throttle and intake manifold. The characteristics of the ultrasonic flow meter are compared with those of the Bosch hot wire flow meter at both steady and unsteady engine conditions.

  • In this paper, a class of delayed predator-prey models of prey migration and predator switching is considered. By analyzing the associated characteristic transcendental equation, its linear stability is investigated and Hopf bifurcation is demonstrated. Some explicit formulae for determining the stability and the direction of the Hopf bifurcation periodic solutions bifurcating from Hopf bifurcations are obtained by using the normal form theory and center manifold theory. Some numerical simulations for justifying the theoretical analysis are also provided. Finally, biological explanations and main conclusions are given.

  • Brake forces due to eddy-currents induced by the relative motion of a conductor and a magnetic devices: motors, brakes and magnetically levitated vehicles. In particular, the practicality of using permanent magnet in eddy-current brakes system is obviously recent, due to the manifold improvement in magnet materials and technology. For such a system we give analytical formulas considering eddy-current distribution as variables: flux density for each region and forces.

Progressive Compression of 3D Mesh Geometry Using Sparse Approximations from Redundant Frame Dictionaries

  • In this paper, we present a new approach for the progressive compression of three-dimensional (3D) mesh geometry using redundant frame dictionaries and sparse approximation techniques. We construct the proposed frames from redundant linear combinations of the eigenvectors of a combinatorial mesh Laplacian matrix. We achieve a sparse synthesis of the mesh geometry by selecting atoms from a frame using matching pursuit. Experimental results show that the resulting rate-distortion performance compares favorably with other progressive mesh compression algorithms in the same category, even when a very simple, sub-optimal encoding strategy is used for the transmitted data. The proposed frames also have the desirable property of being able to be applied directly to a manifold mesh having arbitrary topology and connectivity types; thus, no initial remeshing is required and the original mesh connectivity is preserved.

  • In the study, it is considered sporty car as 1400cc entry cars using sound generator. These cars are required special sound quality, also sporty sound quality. The operational principle of this sound generator system is that on the operation of the engine intake valves caused pulsating is to shake the membrane of the sound generator on the inside of the driver front dash panel through the intake manifold, which will deliver the required sound quality and tone. For the component constructed sound generator, main design parameters are selected and optimized using the daguchi's method. The results are as follows; The C2 sound level must be minimized and C4 level must be maximized. And also overall level keeps linear characteristics.

  • The optimum design problem of a coat-hanger die is solved by the inverse formulation. The flow in the die is analyzed using three-dimensional model. The new model for the manifold geometry is developed for the inverse formulation. The inverse problem for the optimum die geometry is formed as the optimization problem whose objective function is the linear combination of the square sum of pressure gradient deviation at die exit and the penalty function relating to the measure of non-smoothness of solution. From the several iterative solutions of the optimization problem, the optimum solution can be obtained automatically while producing the uniform flow rate distribution at die exit.

  • In this paper we find a geometric condition for the weaker principle of spatial averaging (PSA) for a class of polyhedral domains. Let \ulcorner be a polyhedron in R\ulcorner, n$\leq$3. If all dihedral angles of \ulcorner are submultiples of $\pi$, then there exists a parallelopiped \ulcorner generated by n linearily independent vectors {\ulcorner}\ulcorner in R\ulcorner containing \ulcorner so that solutions of $\Delta$u+λu=0 in \ulcorner with either the boundary condition u=0 or ∂u/∂n=0 are expressed by linear combinations of those of $\Delta$u+λn=0 in \ulcorner with periodic boundary condition. Moreover, if {\ulcorner}\ulcorner satisfies rational condition, we guarantee the weaker PSA for the domain \ulcorner.

  • This article studies asymptotic stability of non-auto nomous linear systems with time-dependent coefficient matrices {A(t)}t∈ℝ. The classical theorem of Levinson has been widely used to science and engineering non-autonomous systems, but systems with defective eigenvalues could not be covered because such a family does not allow continuous diagonalization. We study systems where the family allows to have upper triangulation and to have defective eigenvalues. In addition to the wider applicability, working with upper triangular matrices in place of Jordan form matrices offers more flexibility. We interpret our and earlier works including Levinson's theorem from the perspective of invariant manifold theory.

Determination of methamphetamine in the hair of Korean abuser by CG/MS (GC/MS에 의한 한국인의 모발중 Methamphetamine검출)

  • A sensitive method for the determination of methamphetamine(MA) and amphetamine(AM) in hair was developed by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry using stable isotope-labeled internal standards, amphetamine-d$_{5}$ and methamphetamine-d$_{5}$. Hair sample was washed with MeOH, incubated with MeOH(I% HCI) overnight at $37^{\circ}C$ while stirring and extracted using solid phase extraction column on a vacuum manifold. The extract obtained was pentafluoropropionated, and applied to GC/MS. The calibration curves of MA and AM were linear from 2.5 to 250 ng (r>0.99 for both). The limit of detection was 0.1 ng/mg in hair and cut-off level was set at 0.25 ng/mg for both. Hair samples of 27 MA abusers showed positive results in the range 0.7 to 106.8 ng/mg. AM, its metabolite, was detected in 20 out of 27 samples. The ratio of MA versus AM was 4.6~38.3 in specimens. Hair analysis for methamphetamine by GC/MS is an effective method for identifying long-term drug abusers.

  • Face tracking and recognition are difficult problems because the face is a non-rigid object. If the system tries to track or recognize the unknown face continuously, it can be more hard problems. In this paper, we propose the method to track and to recognize the face of the unknown person on video sequences using linear combination of nonlinear manifold models that is constructed in the system. The arbitrary input face has different similarities with different persons in system according to its shape or pose. Do we can approximate the new nonlinear manifold model for the input face by estimating the similarities with other faces statistically. The approximated model is updated at each frame for the input face. Our experimental results show that the proposed method is efficient to track and recognize for the arbitrary person.
