Mössbauer Study of Two Discernable Fe Sites in CaFe2O4

  • Structural and magnetic properties of polycrystalline $CaFe_2O_4$ prepared by the solid state reaction method were studied using powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) and $M{\ddot{o}}ssbauer$ spectroscopy. The structure of $CaFe_2O_4$ belongs to an orthorhombic system (space group: Pnma) with the lattice parameters $a=9.2373\;{\AA}$, $b=3.0237\;{\AA}$, and $c=10.7124\;{\AA}$. Results of structural refinement indicate, however, that there are two slightly different iron sites in the sample. The $M{\ddot{o}}ssbauer$ spectrum at 4.2 K shows a hyperfine sextet with a hyperfine magnetic field and an isomer shift of 47.3 T and 0.36 mm/s, respectively. An examination of the spectrum revealed that the line widths of the spectral lines were not uniform. The degree of asymmetric line broadening decreases with increasing temperature, suggesting that the difference in the degree of crystalline distortions between two $FeO_6$ octahedra is eliminated as the temperature rises.

  • Two different low rate speech coders using one of four types of lattice vector quantizers(LVQ's) with fairly low complexity were investigated for an application to mobile communications. More specifically, two-stage vector quantizer-lattic vector quantizer(VQ-LVQ) systems and vector differenctial pulse code modulation(VDPCM)systems with lattice vector quantizers simulated to encode the line spectrum frequencies of various sentences at the rate 22 to 39 bits per 20 msec frame. The simulation results showed that the VDPCM system with the lattice VQ can save up to 10 bits/fram compared to the quantization scheme used in QCELP system. For the VQ-LVQ system, the spherical quasi-uniform LVQ below 36 bits/frame outperformed the other 3 types of LVQ's and the pyramidal quasi-uniform LVQ at 37 bits/frame outperformed the other 3 types of LVQ's with the spectral distortion 0.97.

  • 음성신호는 성문특성으로 인해 고주파 특성이 약화되는 경향이 있다. 이를 보상하기 위해 Pre-emphasis filter를 사용한다. 수식으로 표현하면 y(n)=s(n)-As(n-1) 와 같이 차분방정식으로 나타낼 수 있다. 여기서 A값은 보통 0.9에서 1사이의 값을 주로 사용한다. 그러나 Pre-emphasis filter는 고주파 특성을 보상하는 과정에서 극점과 같이 영점도 왜곡된다. 본 논문에서는 음성특성에 따른 LSP(Line Spectrum Pairs) 분포특성을 이용하여 영점을 보존하고 vocoder 및 coding에 필연적인 고주파 특성 혹은 저주파 특성을 강조한다.

Analytical Study of Polarization Spectroscopy for the Jg=0 → Je=1 Transition

  • This work presents a theoretical study on the analytical calculation of the lineshape of polarization spectroscopy (PS) for the transition line $5s^2\;^1S_0{\rightarrow}5s5p\;^1P_1$ of $^{88}Sr$. From the obtained analytical form of the PS spectrum, we were able to identify how the saturation affected the lineshape of the PS spectrum. The results obtained will be useful for polarization spectroscopy experiments using the alkaline-earth atoms such as Sr or Yb.

  • We measured the linewidth (FWHM) changes of the PQR laser against the diameter of the devices and the injection currents. We report the linewidth narrowing with increasing the PQR currents. A rough estimate of the line width behavior shows an inverse proportionality to the cavity length. The spectrum of $\frac{3}{4}$ circle cavity PQR laser is reported for the first time as well. The spectrum looks slightly different from that of the full circle device due to the structural distortion.

  • In this paper, for the bounded solution of the non-densely defined non-autonomous evolution equation, we present the condition for asymptotic periodicity by using the circular spectral theory of functions on the half line and the extrapolation theory of non-densely defined evolution equation.

Application of Radiation Databases for the Prediction of CO2 Infrared Spectrum (이산화탄소의 적외선 스펙트럼 예측을 위한 복사 데이터베이스 활용)

  • In the present study, numerical predictions of infrared spectra for $CO_2$ molecule were conducted. Absorption coefficients of $CO_2$ which are required for simulating the spectra, were calculated by using a line-by-line method and by adopting spectroscopic parameters from the radiation databases, HITEMP2010 and CDSD-4000. Simulations were made in the 2.7, 4.3, and $15{\mu}m$ band regions, and the results were compared with the measurements of other researchers. It was found that the calculated results are well matched with the various measurements. However, in the $4.3{\mu}m$ band region, the CDSD-4000 based calculation yields a better fit to the measurement than the HITEMP2010 based calculation does.

STRENGTH OF THE RAMAN SCATTERED HE II EMISSION LINES IN SYMBIOTIC STARS AND PLANETARY NEBULAE

  • In Lee, Kang & Byun (2001) the discovery of Raman scattered 6545 A feature was reported in symbiotic stars and the planetary nebula M2-9. The broad emission feature around 6545 A is formed as a result of Raman scattering of He II n = 6 $\to$ n = 2 photons by atomic hydrogen. In this paper, we introduce a method to compute the equivalent width of He II $\lambda$ 1025 line and present an optical spectrum of the symbiotic star RR Telescopii as an example for a detailed illustration. In this spectrum, we pay attention to the broad H$\alpha$ wings and the Raman scattered He II 6545 feature. The broad Ha wings are also proposed to be formed through Raman scattering of continuum around Ly$\beta$ by Lee (2000), and therefore we propose that the equivalent width of the He II $\lambda$ 1025 emission line is obtained by a simple comparison of the strengths of the 6545 feature and the broad H$\alpha$ wings. We prepare a template H$\alpha$ wing profile from continuum radiation around Ly$\beta$ with the neutral scattering region that is supposed to be responsible for the formation of Raman scattered He II 6545 feature. Isolation of the 6545 feature that is blended with [N II] $\lambda$ 6548 is made by using the fact that [N II] $\lambda$ 6584 is always 3 times stronger than [N II] $\lambda$ 6548. We also fit the 6545 feature by a Gaussian which has a width 6.4 times that of the He II $\lambda$ 6527 line. A direct comparison of these two features for RR Tel yields the equivalent width $EW_{Hel025} = 2.3{\AA}$ of He II $\lambda$ 1025 line. Even though this far UV emission line is not directly observable due to heavy interstellar extinction, nearby He II lines such as He II $\lambda$ 1085 line may be observed using far UV space instruments, which will verify this calculation and hence the origins of various features occurring in spectra around H$\alpha$.

Line-shape analysis of the Raman-spectrum from B1g bond buckling phonon in Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+x

  • We performed Raman spectroscopy on two different over-doped Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+x (BSCCO), of which superconducting transition temperatures are 89 K and 77 K. Line-shape analysis of the Raman-spectrum was done, focused on B1g bond buckling mode which have drawn a lot of attention, since photoemission studies showed an evidence for strong coupling between the mode and electron. The line-shapes show asymmetry and are well fitted by the Fano line-shape formula. Remarkably, we found that the peak line-widths from B1g bond buckling mode in BSCCO show much broader than those in YBa2Cu3O7-x. The broad line width can be attributed to the superstructure modulation of BSCCO. Our results imply that B1g bond buckling mode may have close relation to the origin of superconductivity or to boosting the superconducting transition temperature in BSCCO.
