The process of styrofoam pattern that has been used for material of press die pattern depends chiefly on handwork. Laser manufacturing system developed to increase precision and efficiency of process that is also able to convert the design easily. Applying the RP(rapid prototyping) concept reversely, the unnecessary part of section is vapored away by heat source of laser beam after converting 3-D CAD model into cross-sectional shape information. Laser beam is line-scanned in plane specimens to measure the depth and width of cut, surface roughness, cross-sectional shape as converting laser power, scanning speed, cutting gas pressure. With these basic data, plane surface, inclined surface, hole, outer contour trimming process is experimented and optimum condition are obtained. In plane and inclined surface experiments, 15W laser power and 50mm/s scanning speed make superior processing property and 30W, 10mm/s make processing efficiency increase in trimming process. With these results, simple patterns were manufactured and the possibility of applying laser manufacturing system to styrofoam pattern was convinced.

The application of laser direct etching has been discussed, and believed that the process is a very powerful method for micro machining. This study is focused on the micro patterning technology using laser direct etching process with no chemical damage of the material surface. A new introduced concept of energy synergy effect for surface micro machining is the combination of chemically ion reaction and laser thermal process. The etchant can't etch the material in room temperature, and used Ar laser has not power enough to machine. But, the machining is occurred in local area of the material by the combined energy. Using this process, the material is especially prevented from chemical damage for electric property. We have tested this new concept, and achieved a line with $1{mu}m$ width. The Ar laser with 488nm wavelength was used. The material was Si(100) wafer, and etchant is KOH solution. The application and flexibility of this process is in great hopes for MEMS structures and fabrication of the micro electric device parts.
Nowadays, the Laser image is used to realize multi-media show for events, an advertising media and 3D simulation, realization of video image and so on. It is a hot issue to realize the laser image like computer graphic image. The image used in laser projector is vector graphic image that is described by linking point to point. A computer makes this continuous vector graphic images so that the image shows as an animation. A control signal converted by a computer makes the laser projector draw image. Two motors and universal joint are used to realize 2D laser image in this study. Developing a controller applied Look-ahead algorithm and software to interface with personal computer, This study is the chief aim of improving difference of moving velocity that is appeared from edge of vector graphic image and disparity of graphic density.

The laser direct writing method has some advantages of being maskless, allowing rapid and inexpensive prototyping in comparison to conventional mask-based photolithography. In general, there are two kinds of laser direct writing methods such as the laser ablation method and the laser polymerization method. The laser polymerization method was studied fur manufacturing waveguide in this paper. It is important to reduce line width for image mode waveguides, so some investigations will be carried out in various conditions of process parameters such as laser power, writing speed, focusing height and optical properties of polymer. Experimentally, the optical waveguide was manufactured trapezoid shape. Through SEM the waveguide was 20 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ width and 7.4 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ height.
Forming sheet metal by laser-induced thermal stresses (laser forming) has been extensively studied, and the research has focused on two-dimensional geometries using a multi-pass straight line scan. Recently there came out some useful studies or three-dimensional laser forming which is applied to doubly curved shapes. The task of 3D laser forming sheet metal is to determine a set of process parameters such as laser scanning paths, laser power and scanning speed that will make a given shape. New method for laser forming of a doubly curved surface by using geometrical information was proposed and verified by experiments. This method shows good performance in the sense of calculation time and accuracy compared to the inherent strain method.
Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) can produce three-dimensional objects directly from a CAD solid model without part-specific tooling. In this study, a simple rapid prototyping through selective laser sintering on brass powder is investigated using a Nd-YAG laser. Experiments are conducted to produce single lines on a powder-packed bed for various process parameters. Also, temperature distribution in the powder bed and the thickness of a melted line are predicted by finite element analysis. In the numerical analysis, the thermal conductivity of the brass powder which is obtained as a function of state and temperature is used.
Polyimide is one of the useful materials in industry. The surface treatment of polyimide by a femtosecond laser can help accurate and fine fabrication of microstructure. And it can change the transmittance and reflectance of polyimide, too. We put femtosecond laser pulses on polyimide for rectangular or square type surface treaments and observe the change of transmittance and reflectance. Pulsewidth is 172 fs, laser power changes for fabrication are from 5 mW to 20 mW, and transmittance and reflectance are measured under 20m W, 300m W, and 920 mW. Pulse patterning is stable and almost no unwanted surface damage is shown. As power increases, working depth increases but working line width does not increase significantly. As speed changes, they also have same results. It shows the efficiency of a femtosecond laser is good and thermal damage is small for polyimide.
In this paper, we propose a three-dimensional (3D) scanning system based on two line lasers. This system uses two line lasers with different wavelengths as light sources. 532-nm and 630-nm line lasers can compensate for missing scan data generated by geometrical occlusion. It also can classify two laser planes by using the red and green channels. For automatic registration of scanning data, we control a stepping motor and divide the motor's rotational degree of freedom into micro-steps. To this end, we design a control printed circuit board for the laser and stepping motor, and use an image processing board. To compute a 3D point cloud, we obtain 200 and 400 images with laser lines and segment lines on the images at different degrees of rotation. The segmented lines are thinned for one-to-one matching of an image pixel with a 3D point.
The alignment of the prosthetics is very important in an amputee's gait. In the present study. a static prosthesis-alignment device was developed. It consisted of a force plate with four load cells, a laser beam controlled by a step motor, and a control part programmed by PCBASIC. Using the static prosthesis-alignment device, we measured the distance between the load line and various joints of 24 normal volunteers in three standing postures. such as neutral, forward leaning, and backward leaning. Only neutral postures were evaluated on four trans-tibial amputees. The load line for the normal person's neutral position located anterior to the ankle, the knee, and the greater trochanter, but posterior to the shoulder joint. Forward and backward leaning of the normal person resulted in a significant anterior and posterior movements of the load line, respectively. The load line for the amputated side of the trans-tibial amputee also located anterior to the ankle, the extremity prostheses, providing a good relative locations of the load line with respect to various joints.

Metal three-dimensional (3D) printing technologies are mainly classified as powder bed fusion (PBF) and direct energy deposition (DED) methods according to the method of application of a laser beam to metallic powder. The DED method can be used to fabricate fine and hard 3D metallic structures by applying a strong laser beam to a thin layer of metallic powder. The PBF method involves slicing 3D graphics to be a certain height, laminating metal powders, and making a 3D structure using a laser. While the DED method has advantages such as laser cladding and metallic welding, it causes problems with low density when 3D shapes are created. The PBF method was introduced to address the structural density issues in the DED method and makes it easier to produce relatively dense 3D structures. In this paper, thin lines were produced by using PBF 3D printers with stainless-steel powder of roughly $30{\mu}m$ in diameter with a galvano scanner and fiber-transferred Nd:YAG laser beam. Experiments were carried out to find the optimal conditions for the width of a line depending on the processing times, laser power, spot size, and scan speed. The optimal conditions were two scanning processes in one line structure with a laser power of 30 W, spot size of $28.7{\mu}m$, and scan speed of 200 mm/s. With these conditions, a minimum width of about $85.3{\mu}m$ was obtained.
