This study argues the nature of the microgenetic method in respect to child development research and explores its merits and limitations. The microgenetic method focuses on observations that span the entire period from the beginning of developmental change to the time it reaches a relatively stable state. This produces a high density of observations relative to the rate of change in the phenomenon. In this way, observed behavior may be used in intensive trial-by-trial analysis. The microgenetic method is superior to other methods in the possibilities for observing developmental changes as they occur, examining various aspects of change, detecting variability in behavior, and flexibility in application regardless of theoretical perspectives. Limitations of this method include reliability problems due to repeated observations, artificiality relative to the natural situation, inconsistency of short-and long-term change, and demands on children's motivation for participation in research.

Quality is a critical competitive factor in today's environment because of the impact of quality on market share, productivity and costs. Especially in Korean companies, the importance of quality is heightened as they are losing price competitiveness compared to the new industrialized countries. The traditional approach to quality improvement has been focused on workers. The primary means to achieving acceptable outgoing quality has been to inspect quality by adding more inspectors and inspection stations. This is an example of quality cost that can be reduced through the preventive actions against bad quality. Quality cost is best viewed as a measure of costs specifically associated with the achievement or nonachievement of product/service quality required by customers. This paper examines the concept of quality cost, provides guidance to implementing a quality cost system, and identifies the limitations of quality cost information. These limitations are the target for future research for an efficient and effective implementation of quality cost system.

In this study, the limitations of large strain resonant column and torsional shear tests apparatus are described and solutions to the limitations are also described. The limitations are rotational distance, limited torque, and measurable deformation system, respectively. To resolve the rotational distance, the bottom platen was modified. And the four-armed drive plate was modified into eight-armed drive plate and the drive coil connection was changed to obtain powerful torque.

Approximately 70% of aviation accidents in the world are caused by human factors of pilots and 15-20% of these accidents are known to be caused by pilot fatigue. Recently ICAO established new standards of FRMS for aircrew. The US and the EU have introduced FRMS and established and operated new aviation regulation systems for pilot flight(duty) time limitations. On the other hand, Korea has not yet introduced FRMS. This study reviewed ICAO's standards of FRMS and analyzed the aviation regulations of the US and the EU. As a result of this study, it showed that Korea also needed to introduce FRMS. This study reasoned out plans to improve Korean aviation regulations about pilot flight time limitations based on international standards.

Competency and competency-based education are topics of great interest to educators and administrators at most stages of undergraduate and postgraduate medical training. A competency-based approach in medical setting has been valued as a more effective way to strengthen learners' performance compared to the traditional education program. This article aims to explore theoretical and practical possibilities and limitations of competency-based medical education. We approached the topic in 3 gradual steps: the comprehension of background of competency-based education, the conceptual understanding of competency in professional education, and the exploration of possibilities and limitations of competency-based medical education. The last step of analysis was performed in three dimensions: educational objectives, references to judge performance, and performance evaluation criteria. In conclusion, we suggest 4 factors which need to be considered to implement a competency-based medical education.

An effective solution to the problems caused by the explosive growth of World Wide Web is a web caching that employing an additional server, called proxy cache, between the clients and main server for caching the popular web objects near the clients. However, a single proxy cache can easily become the bottleneck. Deploying groups of cooperative caches provides scalability and robustness by eliminating the limitations caused by a single proxy cache. Two common architectures to implement the cooperative caching are hierarchical and distributed caching systems. Unfortunately, both architectures suffer from performance limitations. We propose an efficient hybrid caching architecture eliminating these limitations by using both the hierarchical and same level caches. Our performance evaluation with our investigated simulator shows that the proposed architecture offers the best of both existing architectures in terms of cache hit rate, the number of query messages from clients, and response time.

There have been several control schemes for the single input systems with unmeasurable state variables using variable structure control(VSC) theory. However, each of them is a study on the systems which can be represented in the phase canonical form or non-phase canonical form dynamic equation separately. As these control algorithms have difficulties in practical application by its theoretical limitations, in this paper we propose a new VSC theory which overcomes those limitations, in this paper we propose a new VSC theory which overcomes those limitations of proposed schemes. This new control scheme can be realized for the general linear systems which have unmeasurable state variables. And the switching function of this VSS algorithm consists of measurable state variable function(reduced-order switching function) and its derivatives. Also in the construction of control imput only measurable state variables are used.

Modern business trends call for miniaturization of electronic systems. One of the major impedances in this miniaturization is the conductive and inductive components in chips and circuit boards. Direct Write Technology can write these soft magnetic materials, thus allowing for further miniaturization of inductor devices. Another obstacle in electronics fabrication is the size limitations of thick screen-printing and the material limitations in ink jet printing. Direct Write Technologies address both of these limitations by providing feature sizes less than 20 microns with a wide range of materials possibilities. A discussion of the application of these nano-particulate materials by Direct Write Technologies will be presented.

The most important part of everyday root canal treatment is diagnosis about the morphology of tooth, root and root canal. Usually this procedure is performed by visual examination and radiographic (panoramic/periapical) examination. However, 2-dimentional radiography has several limitations such as imposition of anatomic structures including buccal/lingual root canals and distortion of images. Recently, owing to the increased interest in dental implant and affordable cost of CBCT equipment, CBCT has been introduced widely in local dental clinics. CBCT is characterized by their lower radiation dose and shorter exposure time than conventional CT scan, and ability of 3-dimentional reconstruction of the dento-alveolar structure. Also in endodontic field, the data from CBCT could be very helpful in diagnosing complex root canal anatomy, apical periodontitis, cause of failure and in determining treatment plan. However, there are some limitations such as radiation dose and artifact. Therefore, clinicians should know about indication, advantages and limitations of CBCT, and properly use it for successful root canal treatment to save the natural teeth.

Recently, blockchain has been attracting attention as a high-reliability technology in various fields. However, the Proof-of-Work-based distributed consensus algorithm applied to representative blockchains, such as Bitcoin and Ethereum, has limitations in applications to various industries owing to its excessive resource consumption and performance limitations. To overcome these limitations, various distributed consensus algorithms have appeared, and recently, hybrid distributed consensus algorithms that use two or more consensus algorithms to achieve decentralization and scalability have emerged. This paper introduces the technological trends of the latest high-performance distributed consensus algorithms by analyzing representative hybrid distributed consensus algorithms.
