  • The microstructure and the electrical conductivity of MgO-doped Cr2O3 were investigated as a function of oxygen partial presure, temperature, and MgO content. The grain size was estimated about 1.0$\mu\textrm{m}$. The solubility limit is increased with oxygen partial pressure. Above the solubility limit of MgO in Cr2O3, the spinel phase(MgCr2O4) is formed by the reaction of MgO and Cr2O3. The electrical conductivity of MgO-doped Cr2O3 within the solubility limit is increased with MgO content. Above the solubility limit, however, it is decreased with increasing MgO content because of the formation of the spinel phase.

  • Monolith aperture-type oxygen sensors with simple structure of YSZ(pin-hole)/Pt/ YSZ(solid electrolyte)/Pt were fabricated by co-firing technique. To enhance the yield of productivity, a couple of YSZ green sheets for diffused barrier and solid electrolyte were prepared by tape-casting and co-firing method. The limit current characteristics of the oxygen sensors were measured between 500 and $650^{\circ}C$ The heating temperature of $600^{\circ}C$ was optimum as a portable oxygen sensor in the range of oxygen concentration from 0 to 75 vol%. Linear proficiency of limit current behavior as a function of oxygen concentration was controlled by the variation of aperture dimension. The fabricated oxygen sensors showed the stable sensing output for 30 days. Gas leakage in bonding area due to warping, cracking and thermal cycling was not found in the period.

  • In this paper, the limit load of granular materials was evaluated considering unsaturated shear strength. The unsaturated shear strength parameters were estimated using the results from triaxial compression test and soil-water characteristic curves test. In addition, the limit load of different rates of materials was compared. Also, two important design parameters, yield and failure load were defined utilizing 2-D nonlinear finite element analysis respectively.

  • Combustion using oxygen enriched air is known as a technology which can increase flame stability as well as thermal efficiency due to improving the burning rate. Lift-off, blowout limit and flame length were examined as a function of jet velocity, coflow velocity and OEC(Oxygen Enriched Concentration). Blowout limit of the flame below OEC 25% decreased with increase of coflow velocity, but the limit above OEC 25% increased inversely. Lift-off height decreased with increase of OEC. In particular, lift-off hardly occurred in the condition above OEC 40%. Flame length of the flames above OEC 40% was increased until the blowout occurred. Great flame stability was obtained since lift-off and blowout limit significantly increased with increase of OEC.

  • Natural gas, which is getting more important as a fuel, should be liquefied and shipped in a special tank. During transportation, a spill of liquefied natural gas(LNG) could occur by a collision or even an accident. As a result, violent explosion called the superheat-limit explosion(SLE) can take place in some cases, unexpectedly. Such explosion may result from the formation of a superheated liquid which has attained the superheat-limit temperature when hot(water) and cold(LNG) liquids come into contact. Natural gas mixtures can be considered as discrete light components plus continuous heavy fractions where several continuous distribution function can be adopted. This work is aiming at prediction of the superheat-limit explosion condition by suing continuous thermodynamics development of algorithm to predict.

  • It is well known that the topology optimization for plastic problem is not easy since the iterative analyses to evaluate the objective and cost function with respect to the design variation are very time-consuming. The finite element limit analysis is an efficient tool which is possible to predict collapse modes and sequential collapse loads of a structure considering not only large deformation but also plastic material behavior with moderate computing cost. In this paper, the optimum topology of a structure considering large and plastic deformation is obtained using the finite element limit analysis. To verify the constructed optimization code, topology optimizations of some typical problems are performed and the optimal topologies by elastic design and plastic design are compared.

  • It is a key issue in the tunnel design to evaluate the stability of the excavation face. Two efficient analytical models in the context of the limit equilibrium method (LEM) and the limit analysis method (LAM) are used to carry out the deterministic calculations of the safety factor. The safety factor obtained by these two models agrees well with that provided by the numerical modelling by FLAC 3D, but consuming less time. A simple probabilistic approach based on the Mote-Carlo Simulation technique which can quickly calculate the probability distribution of the safety factor was used to perform the probabilistic analysis on the tunnel face stability. Both the cumulative probabilistic distribution and the probability density function in terms of the safety factor were obtained. The obtained results show the effectiveness of this probabilistic approach in the tunnel design.

  • It is necessary to develop an efficient optimization technique to optimize the engineering structures which have given design spaces, discrete design values and several design goals. As optimization techniques, direct search method and stochastic search method are widely used in designing of engineering structures. The merit of the direct search method is to search the optimum points rapidly by considering the search direction, step size and convergence limit. And the merit of the stochastic search method is to obtain the global optimum points by spreading point randomly entire the design spaces. In this paper, a Pareto optimal based multi-objective function method (PMOFM) is developed by considering the search direction based on Pareto optimal points, step size, convergence limit and random search generation . The PMOFM can also apply to the single objective function problems, and can consider the discrete design variables such as discrete plate thickness and discrete stiffener spaces. The design results are compared with existing Evolutionary Strategies (ES) method by performing the design of double bottom structures which have discrete plate thickness and discrete stiffener spaces.

  • This study is a study to collect information about 'Limitations of functions' related learning. Especially, this study was conducted on three students who can find answers by algebraic procedure in the process of extreme problem solving. Students have had the experience of converting from their algebraic procedures to graphical expressions. This shows how they reflect on their algebraic procedures. This study is a study that observes these parts. To accomplish this, twelfth were teaching experiment in three high school students. And we analyzed the contents related to the research topic of this study. Through this, students showed the difference of expressions in the method of finding limits by using algebraic interpretation methods and graphs. In addition, we examined the connectivity of the limitations of functions problem solving process of functions using algebraic procedures and graphs in the process of converting algebraic expressions to graph expressions. This study is a study of how students construct limit concepts. As in this study, it is meaningful to accumulate practical information about students' limit conceptual composition. We hope that this study will help students to study limit concept development process for students who have no limit learning experience in the future.
