Statistical Analysis of Lightning-Induced Voltages on Subscriber Telecommunication Lines in Korea

  • This paper describes the characteristics of lightning-induced voltages on subscriber telecommunication lines in Korea. Lightning parameters such as peak voltage, rise time, decay time, and steepness of the wave front were statistically analyzed from the measured results obtained using a waveform memory system. An induced voltage measurement system was also developed and installed at 286 sites in Korea to collect the induced voltage data. The distributions of lightning-induced voltages were also analyzed using these data.

  • This paper deals with the lightning test methods on aircraft. It shows lightning current and voltage test waveforms referred to SAE ARP 5412. According to this standard, to test lightning effects, mixes appropriately 5 waves for current and 4 waves for voltage depend on structure and comparison information.

  • 항공기는 결빙, 난기류, 낙뢰 등 환경적 요인에 의해 안전성을 위협받는다. 그 중 낙뢰는 항공기에 강한 전류와 전압을 유입시켜 고온의 열과 자기장을 발생시키므로 항공기 안정성에 큰 위협이 된다. 본 연구에서는 낙뢰의 발생원리 및 항공기 낙뢰 피격 메카니즘을 설명하고 항공기에 대한 낙뢰의 직접, 간접 영향성을 다룬다. 먼저 항공기 낙뢰 지침서인 ARP를 분석하여 항공기 낙뢰모사와 부착위치에 대한 분석을 진행하였으며, 이를 전산 시뮬레이션에 적용하였다. 또한 ABAQUS 소프트웨어를 활용한 열적, 전기적 시뮬레이션을 통해 연료탱크의 낙뢰 영향성 분석 및 낙뢰보호시스템 설계를 진행하였다. 그리고 Maxwell 방정식에 기초한 EMA3D 소프트웨어를 활용하여 항공기 전기체의 전류 흐름에 대한 전산수치해석을 진행하였다.

  • 최근 전력설비의 품질 향상과 시스템 운영기술의 발전으로 전력설비 자체의 고장은 낮은 수준으로 억제되고 있어, 상대적으로 바람이나 낙뢰와 같은 자연재해에 의한 고장이 차지하는 비중이 증가하는 추세이다. 특히, 낙뢰에 의한 고장을 억제하기 위해서는 효과적인 절연설계가 필요하며, 이를 위해서는 여러 가지 과전압해석이 필수적이다. 낙뢰에 의한 과전압해석을 위해서는 낙뢰특성에 대한 기본데이터와 이의 분석된 결과가 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 체계적인 낙뢰대책 수립을 위해 도입된 한국전력공사의 낙뢰관측시스템인 KLDNet(Kepco Lightning Detection Network)의 낙뢰관측 정보를 이용하여 낙뢰발생분포, 낙뢰의 다중도, 연간낙뢰일수, 대지낙뢰밀도, 낙뢰전류의 크기 등 절연설계에 필요한 기본 자료에 대해서 통계 처리하여 분석하였다.

Analysis of Different 500kV HVAC Transmission Lines Lightning Shielding

  • The lightning shielding of different 500 kV HVAC-TL high voltage AC transmission lines was analyzed. The studied transmission lines were horizontal flat single circuit and double circuit transmission lines. The lightning attractive areas were drawn around power conductors and shielding wires. To draw the attractive areas of the high voltage transmission lines, transmission line power conductors, shielding wires and lightning leader were modeled. Different parameters were considered such as lightningslope, ground slope and wind on lightning attractive areas. From the calculated results, the power conductors voltages affected on attractive areas around power conductors and shielding wires. For negative lightning leader, the attractive area around the transmission line power conductor increased around power conductors stressed by positives voltage and decreased around power conductors stressed by negative voltage. In spite of this, the attractivearea of the transmission line shielding wire increasedaround the shielding wire above the power conductor stressed by the positive voltage and decreased around the shielding wire above the power conductor stressed by negative voltage. The attractive areas around power conductors and shielding wires were affected by the surrounding conditions, such as lightning leader slope, ground slope. The AC voltage of the transmission lines made the shielding areas changing with time.

복합재항공기 연료시스템의 낙뢰보호설계 및 인증 연구 (Research on Aircraft Lightning Protection Design and Certification of Fuel System in Composite Material)

  • Lightning protective design of an aircraft fuel system is closely related to the safety of the flight. Recently, composite material in building an aircraft becomes more important because it can reduce the weight of the aircraft. The composite materials decrease the protection against the effect of lightning. Lightning protective design of metal material aircraft has been researched for a long time and the design technique has been announced widely. However, research on the lightning protective design using composite material aircraft is very limited. In this study, lightning protective design for fuel tank structural component, access cover, fuel filler cap and drain valve in carbon fiber composite material aircraft have been presented. To show the compliance with FAA airworthiness standard regarding the presented protection designs, three steps, including lightning strike analysis, lightning environment analysis and certification test, were conducted in accordance with FAA AC 20-53.

  • According to the records, approximately 50 percent of power failure were caused by lightning. Conventional fault preventive measures against lightning include reduction of the footing resistance of the tower, multiplication of overhead ground wires and unbalanced insulation of the double circuit transmission tower. In addition to these, transmission line arresters have been recently appeared as an alternatives. In this paper an unbalanced insulation method with transmission line arrester was assumed as another countermeasure against simultaneous double circuit trip of 154 kV transmission line by lightning strike. The lightning performance of line arrester was compared with conventional insulation concept using different numbers of porcelain and glass insulator. Larger numbers of insulator simply increase flashover current level by lightning but the lightning performance doesn't proportional to it. EMTP simulation and predictive calculation of lightning failure rate were carried out to evaluate the performance.

A New Optimized Localized Technique of CG Return Stroke Lightning Channel in Forest

  • Localization of lightning strike point (LSP) in the forest is modeled to mitigate the forest fire damage. Though forest fire ignited by lightning rarely happens, its damage on the forest is grievousness. Therefore, predicting accurate location of LSP becomes crucial in order to control the forest fire. In this paper, we proposed a new hybrid localization algorithm by combining the received signal strength (RSS) and the received signal strength ratio (RSSR) to improve the accuracy by mitigating the environmental effect of lightning strike location in the forest. The proposed hybrid algorithm employs antenna theory (AT) model of cloud-to-ground (CG) return stroke lightning channel to forecast the location of the lightning strike. The obtained results show that the proposed hybrid algorithm achieves better location accuracy compared to the existing RSS method for predicting the lightning strike location considering additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) environment.

  • The effects of surge arresters for protection of transmission systems against direct lightning strokes have already been investigated using the digital simulation program EMTP. Distribution lines are spanned on a much large area as compared to transmission lines, and therefore, are more often susceptible to lightning strokes. This paper analyzes the overvoltages on underground cable system against direct lightning strokes to the overhead ground wire using the digital simulation. The effects of lightning protection methods, such as lowering the grounding resistance and installing the surge arrester, for preventing overvoltages on underground cable system caused by direct lightning strokes to the overhead ground wire is investigated. Several schemes have been proposed to protect underground cables. This paper summarizes the main results of a study aimed at analysis of lightning overvoltages in variety underground feeders protected by metal-oxide arresters. This study will provide insulation coordination methods for reasonable system design in 22.9kV underground cable system.

CRIEPI 방식을 이용한 국내 가공 배전선로에서의 뇌 섬락률 산정 (Analysis of Flashover Rate by Lightning in Korea Distribution Line using CRIEPI Method)

  • This paper analyzes the flashover rate by lightning in Korea distribution system. Because of random characteristics of lightning, the Monte Carlo method is applied to estimate the lightning performance. The magnitude of lightning stroke is based on the curve measured in field. The classification of direct and indirect lightning depends on the striking distance. The striking distance and flashover rate are calculated by using the method based on Central Research Institute of Electric Power Industry(CRIEPI). The distribution system and lightning is modeled by using EMTP and MATLAB, and the accuracy of modeling is discussed. The simulations for the various spacing between two adjacent surge arresters and the various grounding resistance of GW according to the existence of GW are performed and the simulation results are analyzed.
