A Study on Selection of a Control Slope for Daylight Responsive Dimming Systems (광센서 조광제어시스템의 제어기울기 선정방법에 관한 연구)

  • The daylight responsive dimming systems, which use daylight and automatically controls the brightness of electric lighting, according to the amount of daylight coming into the indoor, as well as always maintains target illuminance, is an energy saving type system. The control slope that decide the dimming percent for dimming ballast to run this system efficiently should be decided exactly. This research ran performance assessment applying daylight responsive dimming systems to actual space, and supplemented control slope in the sky condition for the elevation of system. Also we revaluated a system by modified control slope and compiled valid propriety and alternative for the elevation system.

  • Recently, energy depleting problem have risen seriously. Many studies of daylight responsive dimming system for saving of lighting energy in office buildings have been done actively. Most of studies are focused on the accuracy. However if the variation of dimming levels is changed too often, occupants would feel uncomfortable. First, illuminance changes which occupants couldn't detect are studied through analyzing foreign studies. Second, workplan illuminance from daylight in each sky condition is measured. Because the dimming level In daylight responsive dimming system is dependent on the workplan illuminance from daylight. In conclusion, the most appropriate polling periods to daylight responsive dimming system for occupant's visual comfort was determined.

  • Light is an environmental element which is essential for a man to live and do creative activities in residential area. Especially, modern people arc used to live under artificial light interior surroundings for much time. Currently, the average illumination level of the present apartment is improving, but it still does not reach the recommended level because the present apartment's luminous environment is only based on the life behavior which puts its priority to clear vision. Therefore, it is necessary that proper standard illumination must be used for various use and purpose. From this point of view, this paper investigated the essence of light in the residential area and the luminous environment for apartments was measured. This paper finally suggested well-coordinated lighting condition, derived from the measurement and analysis of luminous environment in these cases.

  • This study aims to measure amount of the reduction ratio of energy consumptions by the daylight responsive dimming systems, which uses daylighting and electric lighting. The results of this study show that the reduction ratio of electric power is better 'clear sky' by sky condition and 'window side of room' by zoning. When calculating reduction ratio of energy consumptions with used times in real office space, it tells that the result of real office was higher ratio than that of experimental space. For this study which presents efficient use of daylight in office environment, it will be basis of improving energy performance.

  • This paper suggests a overvoltage protection scheme for HID lamp. HID lamp has complex characteristics and long duration in process from starting to steady state condition. So it is necessary to protect both starting and normal lighting mode. The protection method is composed of two circuit: one is for ignition state and the other is for steady state.

  • Harmonics happened due to nonlinear systems such as UPS, SCR controlled motors, and fluorescent lighting in distribute power system is very important subject to optimal operation and control of power system. Harmonics sometimes make incorrect operation of protective relaying system under normal condition on power system. In this study, total harmonics distortion(THD) of power were measured and analyzed by the field test on electrical facilities which were installed at the rural industrial complex in Chungbuk province. In addition, the deprivation of power factor by harmonics and the content of THD which is measured at neutral line was researched.

  • With the need for efficient maintenance technology to reduce maintenance costs for steel bridges, repainting robots are being developed to automate the work in narrow and poor bridge spaces. The repainting robot is equipped with a blasting module to remove paint layers and contaminants. This study developed a prototype monitoring module to be mounted on the repainting robot. The monitoring module analyzes the condition of the painting surface through a camera installed in the front, guides the direction of movement of the robot, and provides the operator with a video to check the working status after blasting through a camera installed in the back. Various image visibility enhancement technologies were applied to the monitoring module to overcome worksite challenges where incomplete lighting and dust occurs.

  • In this study, we propose the design of optimized pRBFNNs-based night vision face recognition system using PCA algorithm. It is difficalt to obtain images using CCD camera due to low brightness under surround condition without lighting. The quality of the images distorted by low illuminance is improved by using night vision camera and histogram equalization. Ada-Boost algorithm also is used for the detection of face image between face and non-face image area. The dimension of the obtained image data is reduced to low dimension using PCA method. Also we introduce the pRBFNNs as recognition module. The proposed pRBFNNs consists of three functional modules such as the condition part, the conclusion part, and the inference part. In the condition part of fuzzy rules, input space is partitioned by using Fuzzy C-Means clustering. In the conclusion part of rules, the connection weights of pRBFNNs is represented as three kinds of polynomials such as linear, quadratic, and modified quadratic. The essential design parameters of the networks are optimized by means of Differential Evolution.

Driving Current Control for Time-Stable RGB LED Backlighting Using Time-Varying Transform Matrix (시변 변환 행렬을 이용한 시간에 안정된 RGB LED Backlighting 구동 전류 제어)

  • This paper proposes a driving current control method for a back light unit (BLU), consisting of red, green, and blue (RGB) light-emitting diodes (LEDs), whereby an RGB optical sensor is used to check the output color stimulus variation to enable a time-stable color stimulus for light emission by the RGB LED BLU. First, to obtain the present color stimulus information of the RGB LED BLU, an RGB to XYZ transform matrix is derived to enable CIEXYZ values to be calculated for the RGB LED BLU from the output values of an RGB optical sensor. The elements of the RGB to XYZ transform matrix are polynomial coefficients resulting from a polynomial regression. Next, to obtain the proper duty control values for the current supplied to the RGB LEDs, an XYZ to Duty transform matrix is derived to calculate the duty control values for the RGB LEDs from the target CIEXYZ values. The data used to derive the XYZ to Duty transform matrix are the CIEXYZ values for the RGB LED BLU estimated from the output values of the RGB optical sensor and corresponding duty control values applied to the RGB LEDs for the present, first preceding, and second preceding sequential check points. With every fixed-interval check of the color stimulus of the RGB LED BLU, the XYZ to Duty transform matrix changes adaptively according to the present lighting condition of the RGB LED BLU, thereby allowing the RGB LED BLU to emit the target color stimulus in a time-stable format regardless of changes in the lighting condition of the RGB LEDs.

Effects of Germination Condition, Nursery Media and Nutrient Concentration on Seedling Growth Characteristics of Pak-choi and Lettuce in Plant Factory (발아조건과 배지종류 및 양액 농도에 따른 식물공장 재배 청경채와 상추의 묘 생육특성)

  • This experiment was conducted to study the effects of germination condition, nursery media and nutrient concentration in plant factory on the growth characteristics of pak-choi and lettuce seedlings. The results showed that temperature (15, 20, $25^{\circ}C$) and light conditions (lighting and no lighting) had no significant effect on germination rate of pak-choi and lettuce, whereas the interaction of growing media (rockwool and urethane sponge) and moisture management before and after sowing had significant effect on germination percentage. In case of no moisture management before and after sowing, germination percentage was much higher in rockwool medium than urethane sponge medium. But germination percentage of urethane sponge was higher than that of rockwool with applying moisture before and after sowing. At the nutrient concentration of EC $1.0dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ the fresh weight of pak-choi was heavier than in EC 1.5 and $0.5dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ by 1.8 and 6.0 times, respectively. At the nutrient concentration of EC $1.0dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ the fresh weight of lettuce was also heavier than in EC 1.5 and $0.5dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ by 1.7 and 3.5 times, respectively.
