  • There are provision for risk analysis in IEC standards. It is to determine the need for installation of a surge protection device (SPD) in order to protect the low-voltage electrical installations from overvoltages caused by atmospheric phenomena and the like. However, scattered many related standards, the lack of details are not easy to apply it in the field. We investigated the relevant domestic and international standards for applies to the international standards in domestic. And we proposed the flow chart for determining the need for protection of the low-voltage electrical installations from overvoltage due to atmospheric phenomena and it set the appling target facility.

  • Lithium-ion batteries are actively used in various industrial sites such as field robots, drones, and electric vehicles due to their high energy efficiency, light weight, long life span, and low self-discharge rate. When using a lithium-ion battery in a field, it is important to accurately estimate the SoC (State of Charge) of batteries to prevent damage. In recent years, SoC estimation using data-based artificial neural networks has been in the spotlight, but it has been difficult to deploy in the embedded board environment at the actual site because the computation is heavy and complex. To solve this problem, neural network lightening technologies such as network pruning have recently attracted attention. When pruning a neural network, the performance varies depending on which layer and how much pruning is performed. In this paper, we introduce an optimized pruning technique by improving the existing pruning method, and perform a comparative experiment to analyze the results.

  • Press machine has advantages over other manufacturing machine which can produce large quantities of products in short time so it is widely used in lots of industrial sectors. To obtain the vehicle's weight lightening and rigidity of the body-frame by applying 'Hot stamping' technique is increasing in the automotive field. In this paper, to improve the irregular vibration arose by 800Ton hot stamping press, the research was continued. Bed, slide and main frame are the key part of working precision, so perform structural analysis was conducted, and based on the analyzing results, structural changes were done on the parts where structural deformation occurred.

  • A traditional fabrication method is very difficult to make small robots using embedded sensors, actuators and connectors. Fortunately, Shape Deposition Manufacturing can provide an alternative method, and it has many benefits. Firstly, the weight of robot can be lighter, as it can be consisted of composite materials. Secondly, SDM can make simple robot structures because this approach does not need to use connectors and fasteners. Lastly, SDM gives stiffness and flexibility at the specific parts. Therefore, in this paper, we present a design of 3 segment legs organized by SDM, what the SDM approach is, and compare SDM method with 3 segment prototype legs which uses a traditional approach and made by DGIST.

  • In this paper, We have designed a face recognition system based on the embedded Linux. This paper has an aim in embedded system to recognize the face more exactly. At first, the contrast of the face image is adjusted with lightening compensation method, the skin and lip color is founded based on YCbCr values from the compensated image. To take advantage of the method based on feature and appearance, these methods are applied to the eyes which has the most highly recognition rate of all the part of the human face. For eyes detecting, which is the most important component of the face recognition, we calculate the horizontal gradient of the face image and the maximum value. This part of the face is resized for fitting the eye image. The image, which is resized for fit to the eye image stored to be compared, is extracted to be the feature vectors using the continuous wavelet transform and these vectors are decided to be whether the same person or not with PNN, to miminize the error rate, the accuracy is analyzed due to the rotation or movement of the face. Also last part of this paper we represent many cases to prove the algorithm contains the feature vector extraction and accuracy of the comparison method.

  • Dynamic performance of transmission has a substantial effect on dynamic performance and fuel efficiency of a vehicles. Dynamic performance of transmission and mass moments of inertia of transmission gears are related directly each other. Then a smaller amount of kinetic energy from vehicles that repeat acceleration and deceleration requires lighter rotating part in transmission. It is going to increases fuel efficiency as a result. In this study, equivalent inertia moments of inertia at different speeds were calculated by simplifying the transmission system. To find out lightening effect at low speed level gear on fuel efficiency, the powerflow of transmission was analyzed. And the lightning effect of the rotating parts in transmission is compared with the mass reduction of sprung parts in vehicle.

  • In order for a latecomer in deep-space exploration such as Korea to quickly keep pace with advanced deep-space exploration countries in the mutually-beneficial space exploration market, it is essential to derive a deep-space probe reference model that can reduce development period and cost. In this paper, concept and configuration for the deep-space probe reference model consisting of basic, lightweight, and expansion types are newly presented, which are based on commonly required designs for various deep-space probes. The proposed configuration adopts modular design so that the expandability and design/implementation efficiency are improved. In addition, the electrical system design pursuing lightweight and expandability is also described, which is applicable to the proposed three-types of deep-space probe reference model.

Lightweight Aggregate Bloating Mechanism of Clay/Incinerated Ash/Additive System (점토/소각재/첨가제계 인공 경량골재의 발포기구)

  • The influence of the incinerated ash and additives on glass phase formation of lightweight aggregate, weight-lightening, and the bloating mechanism was investigated. Clay was used as base materials and incinerated ash was added from 0 to 30wt%. The additives such as $Na_2CO_3,\;CaCo_3,\;K_2CO_3,\;MgCO_3$, and a little amount of waste oil were added to the mixed body. In clay/incinerated ash/additive system, it turned out that $CaCO_3\;and\;MgCO_3$ were the components for glass phase formation and $Na_2CO_3$ was the component for both glass phase formation and weight-lightening. The small addition of waste oil from 0.5wt% to 3.0wt% affect on the bloating of aggregate. Incinerated ash had a good effect on the glass phase controlling. The most effective condition controlling glass phase and bloating of aggregate was 10wt% incinerated ash, 2wt% waste oil at 1200$^{\circ}$C. The bloating mechanism of lightweight aggregate is as follows; 1) micro-crack formation caused by thermal-shock and gas generation from inside of aggregate, 2) volume expansion by glass phase formation on the aggregate surface and rapid gas bloating inside of aggregate, 3) densification after bloating.

  • Lightning protective design of an aircraft fuel system is closely related to the safety of the flight. Recently, composite material in building an aircraft becomes more important because it can reduce the weight of the aircraft. The composite materials decrease the protection against the effect of lightning. Lightning protective design of metal material aircraft has been researched for a long time and the design technique has been announced widely. However, research on the lightning protective design using composite material aircraft is very limited. In this study, lightning protective design for fuel tank structural component, access cover, fuel filler cap and drain valve in carbon fiber composite material aircraft have been presented. To show the compliance with FAA airworthiness standard regarding the presented protection designs, three steps, including lightning strike analysis, lightning environment analysis and certification test, were conducted in accordance with FAA AC 20-53.

A Study on Manufacturing Methods of Cocuring Composite Wings of Solar-Powered UAV (복합재 태양광 무인기 날개 일체성형 제작기법 연구)

  • In order to suggest the optimal manufacturing technology of composite wings of solar-powered unmanned aerial vehicles, this study compared forming technologies to reduce wing weight for long-endurance flight and to improve the manufacturing process for cost-saving and mass production. It compared the manufacturing time and weight of various composite wing molding technologies, including cocuring, secondary bonding, and manufacturing by balsa. As a result, wing weight was reduced through cocuring methods such as band type composite fiber/tape lamination technology, which enabled prolonged flight duration. In addition, the reduced manufacturing time led to a lower cost, which is a good example of weight lightening for not only small solar-powered UAVs, but also composite aircraft.
