Application of Piezoceramic Actuator for Inch-Worm (이송 자벌레로의 압전소자 응용)

  • This paper presents the new linear motion device so called "inch-worm" which gets large displacement by incrementally summing small displacements of PZT actuators. Dynamics stiffness of inch-worm is generally low compared to its driving condition due to the requirement of inch-worm like small size and light weight. This low stiffness may degenerate the positional precision of inch-worm. An inch-worm is realized using three PZT actuators, a monolithic moving device and a guide way frame. Driving input signal is shaped to reduce the residual vibration of inch-worm by LQG controller and cycloid step input. The practical feasibility of inch-worm is also examined by running test.ning test.

  • Organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display panel using the charge-pump (CP) pixel addressing scheme was fabricated, and the results show that it is applicable for information display. A CP-OLED panel with 64 ${\times}$ 64 pixels consisting of thin-film capacitors and amorphous silicon Schottky diodes was fabricated using conventional thin-film processes. The pixel drive circuit passes electrical current into the OLED cell during most of the frame period as in the thin-film transistor (TFT)-based active-matrix (AM) OLED displays. In this study, the panel was operated at a voltage level of below 4 V, and this operation voltage can be reduced by eliminating the overlap capacitance between the column bus line and the common electrode.

Thermite Reaction Between CuO Nanowires and Al for the Crystallization of a-Si

  • Nanoenergetic materials were synthesized and the thermite reaction between the CuO nanowires and the deposited nano-Al by Joule heating was studied. CuO nanowires were grown by thermal annealing on a glass substrate. To produce nanoenergetic materials, nano-Al was deposited on the top surface of CuO nanowires. The temperature of the first exothermic reaction peak occurred at approximately $600^{\circ}C$. The released heat energy calculated from the first exothermic reaction peak in differential scanning calorimetry, was approximately 1,178 J/g. The combustion of the nanoenergetic materials resulted in a bright flash of light with an adiabatic frame temperature potentially greater than $2,000^{\circ}C$. This thermite reaction might be utilized to achieve a highly reliable selective area crystallization of amorphous silicon films.

  • Simultaneous measurements of turbulent velocity and concentration field in a stirred mixer tank are carried out by using PIV/LIF technique. Instantaneous velocity fields are measured with a 1K$\times$1K CCD camera adopting the frame straddle method while the concentration fields are obtained by measuring the fluorescence intensity of Rhodamine B tracer excited by the second pulse of Nd:Yag laser light. Image distortion due to the camera view-angle is compensated by a mapping function. It is found that the general features of the mixing pattern are quite dependent on the local flow characteristics during the rapid decay of mean concentration. However, the small scale mixing seems to be independent on the local turbulent velocity fluctuation.

  • The cold formed light-gauge profiled steel sheeting can offer considerable shear resistance acting in the steel building frame. This paper conducted the full-scale test on the shear behavior of stressed skin diaphragm using profiled sheeting connected by the self-tapping screws. A three-dimensional finite element model that simulates the stressed skin diaphragm was developed. The sheet was modeled using thin element model while the supporting members were simulated using beam elements. Fasteners were represented in the numerical model as equivalent springs. A joint test program was conducted to characterize the properties of these springs and results were reported in this study. Finite element model of the full-scale test was analyzed by use of the ANSYS package, considering nonlinearity caused by the large deflection and slip of fasteners. The experimental data was compared with the results acquired by the EUR formulas and finite element analysis.

  • Designing of the squirrel cage AC Traction Motor has many difficulties which has to be small size in order to be suitable into bogie frame, high efficiency and light weight. It means that induction motor for tractive purpose has to be different magnetic and electric loading ratio from industrial induction motor. This paper is devoted to an examination of how this ratio affects overall design concept and hence the main design points for traction motor. Also studied is tile changed coefficients of the magnetic and electric loading ratio squirrel cage induction motor for the traction purpose which has been already identified from tile reference book for industrial purpose induction motor.

  • AGT(Automated Guide-way Transit System) was introduced to satisfy the every increasing need for improved urban transportation. The AGT system is classified as medium distance and demand capacity mass transit being introduced for such area with inadequate passenger demand for railway construction but excessive demand for bus service. To decrease initial investment cost it is important that we have to secure the technology system of Light Rail Transit for Korea environment. By utilizing the finite element analysis, the result in this paper is enough to satisfy the strength whish is required. Also for the purpose of safety, it is decided the thickness and frame structure of the undeframe section through the analysis. It is known that carbody is no problem for required design conditions.

  • This study was performed on preliminary structural design of a small scale WIG craft which has been developed as a next generation high speed maritime transportation system in Korea. A composite structure design using the foam-sandwich for main wing and tail fins and the honeycomb sandwich and skin-stringer-ring frame for fuselage was applied for weight reduction as well as structural stability. A commercial FEM code, NASTRAN for was utilized to confirm the structural safety for the reiterate design modifications to meet design requirements including the target weight. Each main wing was jointed with the fuselage by eight high strength insert bolts for easy assembling and disassembling as well as for assuring the required 20 years service life. For control surface structural design, the channel type spar, the foam sandwich skin and the lug joint were adopted.

  • In the design of wood structures, the consideration of the dynamic load effect has been increased. Generally, damping ratio is presented as the method of considering dynamic load effect. So, the relationship between joint type and damping ratio was investigated. It has been known that the joint extremely damp the dynamic load in wood structures. Static test was performed to determine the effects of nail size and friction area on joint strength and stiffness. Joint strength and stiffness were increased with nail size. However, the static properties of joint was not affected by friction area. Cyclic test was performed to determine the effects of nail size, friction area and load magnitude on damping ratio, Damping ratio was affected by all factors. Increasing the width of the bottom plate was suggested as the most adequate method to increase the damping ratio without the reduction of the static properties of the structures.

  • Most lamp units at ceilings, walls, and streets are static and no automatic motion capabilities are available at all to adjust lamp tilting angles and its zooming position. This paper proposes a new robotic lamp that creates three degrees of freedom (DOF) motion by using a spherical-type parallel mechanism with a unique forward kinematic position. In the robotic lamp, three motors are placed at the base frame to control two tilting angles and one zoom in-and-out motion for a localized light. The kinematic model of this device is derived and the proto type has been developed. The performance of this device was verified through experiment.
