  • The evaluation of the law schools, which had been launched for the purpose of training the lawyers to settle the legal disputes professionally and effectively, had been done on paper and on site from September through October 2012. Based on not only the basic materials for the evaluation such as evaluation standard, manual, and questionnaire but also the problems revealed during the evaluation, this study intended to show the problems of the evaluation clauses of the law school library which is the basis for the professionalism and diversity of law education and suggest the remedies for them. This study shows that the evaluation clauses need to be made considering the scale of each law school rather than suggesting the same quantitative standard in every law school and to be more specific rather than abstract. Especially, to manage the law school library efficiently from now on, it is necessary to plan and practice the idea of developing such as the specialization and to prepare the idea of operating the law school library through the law school members. Additionally, it is desirable that the chapter of the library exists separately and the library facilities are evaluated together with the other school facilities. Lastly, it is necessary to suggest the appropriate model as the norm to each school according to the school scale.

  • The purpose of this research is to expand much more the facilities and collections of public libraries in Korea for performance of its function, for the life-long education institution. In order to accomplish the purpose of this study, I looked in to the present conditions of the facilities, collections, service facilities in public libraries and suggested a tentative plan on the basis of every kinds of statistics. The result of this thesis can be summarized as follows : 1. Now, 227, 110 populations of the effective service per library are so many that 181 public libraries in Korea have largely deficient state. To solve, a n.0, pplied for Armstrong's standards (5, 000 populations of the effective service per library, and the number of an elementary school 5, 412 elementary schools in Korea). In the former case should be establish 8, 221 public libraries, in the latter case should be established at least 5, 412 public libraries. 2. The public library in Korea is possessed of building areas of 82, 267 pyong (468 pyong per library). They are very poor state comparing with population. Therefore, the building area should be expand according to population by region. Also, the reading facilities of 88, 455 seats, 465 population of the effective service per seat, are largely insufficient of situation. And consequently they should be secured at least 205, 535 seats with standards of five seats per 1, 000 population. 3. The public libraries in Korea keep collection of 4, 517, 280 volumes. As there are 11 volumes per 100 persons, they are very deficient state in figures. Therefore, in this study, suggested Schenk's standard (1 volume per a person) and IFLA standard (2 volumes per a person). Under the circumstances of our country, however, they should be secure at least 41, 106, 993 volumes with a Schenk's standard of one volume per a person. To meet this kind of necessary conditions, there must not only be a national policy but also be a facility for every residents to utilize for educational place, and to every librarians of public libraries, they have to do their best to open their library to every citizens, when needed, with their self-conceit. Cooperating with policy-makers, users, and librarians, making every endeavors to develope Korean libraries, we can promise the hope that our public library will be progressed towards future.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze performance factors of the school and community libraries in its beginning, growth, development, and expansion to identify the assignment of the movement at the present stage. In this study, we performed interviews with those concerned with the school community and library movement and collected various relevant literature. The school and community libraries movement can be divided into five stages including beginning, growth, development, expansion, and turning point. Therefore performance and significance of school and community libraries shown in the history of the movement may be summarized as follows. First, school and community libraries were established mainly in areas isolated from cultural benefits, contributing to resolving problems such as a lack of public libraries and concentration of small libraries in certain areas. Second, the movement promoted the operation of school libraries by providing books for small-sized elementary schools in farming & fishing villages and mountain villages, libraries that were insufficient in books. Third, the movement utilized the minimal personnel, books, and spaces of school libraries to provide library services to community residents, securing permanence of library services, if nothing else. Fourth, school and community libraries played the role of local community-based libraries, intensifying the community spirit of residents and vitalizing communities.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze influencing factors for the user satisfaction of information commons(IC) in school libraries. Relevant previous studies inform four candidate factors that could affect the user satisfaction. Based upon these factors and user interviews, a questionnaire are constructed to form 29 items in total. As the main data, 412 samples are collected from the IC users from 3 high schools in Seoul. Analyses lead to these findings: factors affecting the user satisfaction are identified. They are IC facilities, human services, and achievement level of self-directed learning. It seems that, in ICs, users prefer using space and facilities by themselves to accessing contents. This study suggests ways to improve user satisfaction. It would be essential to introduce IC facilities to current and potential users, to install instruments to enhance achievement level of self-directed learning, and to train users through library education programs.

  • This paper analyzed four large scale studies on the impact of school libraries on students' learning. It identifies how students benefit from their school libraries and how the libraries contribute to the educational goals of the schools. The four studies were the 'National Power' project study, the Scotland study, the Ohio study, and the Delaware study. These studies developed frameworks for evaluating the impact of school libraries on learning, which give insights on how educational objectives and experiences are related with each other and what indicators are available to measure their impact on learning. Basing on Bloom's Taxonomy of educational objectives and Kuhlthau's model of information search process, the educational objectives of the frameworks included cognitive, affective, and psychomotor/physical domain, plus interpersonal domain. The four studies used such research methods as case studies, observations, interviews, focus group discussions, log data analyses in order to identify various learning experiences and impacts.

  • With the recent increase in private universities being closed due to a decrease in the number of students, the importance of records management at schools is also increasing. However, the guidelines for records management at closed private universities are ambiguous, causing confusion in the transfer of records and management. Therefore, this study conducted a literature survey on university records and institutions, and examined the current status of private universities in schools through education statistics services. Among the surveyed private universities, the latest to be closed, and the largest of them was Suh Nam University, which looked at the detailed records management status of private schools. The purpose of the interview was to analyze the results of the interview and draw up implications and propose improvement measures. First, the proposed improvement plan in this study is to make it mandatory to deploy records management specialists at private universities for specialized records management. Second, the law should be revised to improve the ambiguity of private universities' guidelines. Third, continuous support from higher institutions should be ensured so that records management at closed private universities is not passive. This improvement will enable records management at closed private universities to be carried out efficiently when the future closure of private universities is carried out.
