Libraries have recently sought to diversify their roles to meet the changing needs of local residents, while faithfully playing the library's original roles. The creation of a complex cultural space and the provision of services based on it are one of the ways to expand its role. In this study, a surveyed and analyzed the awareness of the complex cultural space of the library and the preference and awareness of the program operated in the complex cultural space by conducting a survey on the users of the library currently operating the complex cultural space. As a result, first, it was found that they preferred information space, education space, and rest space in space preference. On the other hand, community space and experience space showed low preference. Second, they prefer educational programs, exhibition programs, and performance programs that utilize complex cultural spaces, but experience programs and community programs have low preference. Therefore, it is necessary to operate the program by providing exhibitions and performance spaces while providing information and education spaces to users. The librarian should also promote the fact that library can be only the space of information and education, but also the space where culture, healing, experience and communication take place. In addition, libraries should strive to improve user awareness of library space.

The purpose of this study is to develop frameworks for evaluating reading programs for children provided by a public library. Logic Model based on outcome evaluations was applied for the framework development. While the logic model is generally composed of six factors, the frameworks developed in this study has four factors including input, activity, output, and outcome. Additionally, this study suggests outcome indicators which were driven from library data. Even though the evaluation frameworks were developed from specific programs operated by a public library, those might be able to be used to evaluate other libraries' programs for children since the target programs are commonly provided by public libraries.

The purpose of this study was to examine the current development of continuing professional education for librarians with particular foci on online learning and professional competencies. It analyzed the current online training programs at the National Library of Korea along with on-site programs in order to identify their strengths and weaknesses. It also examined best practices of online continuing education abroad where more diverse and interactive delivery methods, such as webinars and webcasts, are used to inform latest and practical topics in the field. It found online training programs are not complementing but playing major roles in continuing professional education. The study also examined the current trends that library continuing educational institutions are applying core competencies schemes to continuing education programs in order to systemize their programs and to strengthen individual librarians' professional competencies.

The purpose of this research are to develop patterns for integrated culture and arts education program in libraries. In order to conduct the research, I analyzed the status of the culture and arts education programs in domestic and U.S. libraries. The basic aim of the culture and arts education program in libraries is based on a nature of the library. I presented the patterns of a integrated culture and arts education programs (experience-understanding-communication). Also, I presented a various culture and arts education programs in based cultural facilities of a region.

This study intends to investigate how many LIS students take a interest in cultural programs offered by local libraries, and whether such a interest leads to actual participation in cultural programs. To the end, surveys and in-depth interviews were conducted on 2nd and 3rd year students from department of Library and Information Science in Busan. The result of this study shows low participation and passive attitude, even though LIS students fully recognize the importance of cultural programs in local libraries. The final suggestions include both educational strategies and practical guidance which might be helpful to attract voluntary participation from prospective librarians and to promote absorption of domain knowledge.

This study identified the current status and degree of awareness of specialized libraries through a survey of public library employees in relation to specialized library projects supported and promoted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and local governments and sought policy directions to revitalize specialized libraries in the future. As a result of the analysis, local (region) was the most common specialized topic, but there were many places that selected topics according to the interest of policymakers. In the case of the data, less than 5% of the total books are specialized, and specialized subject-related programs account for more than 20% of the total library programs, providing an average of three to four programs, and operating personnel generally do not deploy dedicated librarians. When specialized topics meet regional characteristics, when there are separate buildings or specialized rooms, there are two to three dedicated librarians, at least 15% of specialized books, and more than five to six programs, the user's awareness and satisfaction were higher. In order to revitalize specialized libraries, it is necessary to secure additional books, organize differentiated programs, arrange exclusive librarians, provide subject-specialized education through the Korea Library Association and regional representative libraries, develop and distribute specialized and target service manuals, and secure a sufficient budget.

This short survey article examines the current curricula for library and information science education in the U. S. in order to implement them for our professional education in the field in Korea so as to produce qualified and competent graduates. Some of the prevailing trends in education and training for information professionals in the U. S. are as follows: 1. Library schools tend to incorporate information science into library school curricula to reflect their emphasis on this area, and attempt to develop close ties with all segments of the information industry; 2. Library schools actively participate in cooperative research with other agencies to explore ways of solving problems; 3. There is a diversity of education and training programs to meet the needs of a wide variety of information professionals, with library school faculty members being drawn from a wide range of scholarly disciplines; 4. New methods of teaching are being developed to support research and instructional activities; 5. There has been a significant change in the composition of the student body, now given a strong voice in the administration of the library school.

The purpose of this study is to seek the solutions for development of young adults programs in the public libraries in Korea. The reasons for the problems and limitations of the young adults programs are the absence of personnel in charge of young adult service, the shortage in book stock and space, the low participation due to the educational environment pursuing only entrance examination, the poor system in public relations and the cooperation with young adult related organization etc. As the result of seeking solutions for the development of young adults programs in the public libraries based on these problems, followings are required: the establishment of young adults service system, placement of personnel in charge, the development of integrated young adult programs, strengthening of education for librarians in charge, and the establishment of young adult service network.

The purpose of this study is to identify useful factors for the curriculum development of the archival program in Korea by analyzing archival graduate programs of the Schools of Library and Information Science in English-speaking Canada. Name and history of the schools, degrees, credits, required and elective courses, practice, research, md faculty of archival prgrams, and the official guidelines of ACA and SAA are compared by analyzing web sites and literature review. It is found that Canadian LIS schools offer independent archival programs with a separate MAS degree or a specialization. University of British Columbia, the first LIS school that has a separate MAS degree program, provides a systematically developed curriculum. It also reveals that Canadian archival programs are based on their own principle·md SAA guidelines because ACA guidelines are out of date. Based upon the analysis of the archival programs in Canada, the current situations of the archival graduate programs in Korea are compared and several suggestions ale made f3r the direction of successful archival education in Korea in the end.

The free learning semester system focuses on the activation of career education of middle school students as an educational policy that links career recognition in elementary school, career search in middle school, and career planning in high school. This system was fully implemented in 2016 and public libraries also provided various programs. This study analyzed the free learning semester system programs of public libraries in Busan city and demonstrated the contribution of local development. As a result, career and job search, career exploration and experience, and information literacy enhancement programs contributed to local knowledge culture, reading culture, learning culture, living culture and leisure culture. However, contribution of reading exhibitions, job experience, information literacy enhancement to the leisure culture and local economy were limited. Therefore, it is desirable that all libraries should add programs related to knowledge ecosystem structure, digital information gap, human healing, social environment issues, future job prospects, and provide information literacy programs.
