  • When the Professional Librarians can be satisfied with the needs in perfoming their jobs, they feel the job satisfaction. In other words, the job desire consists of the directly related factors such as fitness, dexterity and the value of the work and those opinions regarding the environments, pays, problems of the promotion, promise of the job. This thesis is a study of these factors that affect the Professional Librarans' job desire of the university libraries in Korea. The purpose of the study is to analyze the perceived degree of Professional Librarians' job desire. To meet this purpose, this study is based upon A.H. Maslow's motivation theory "Hierarchy of Needs" and analyzed by the method of "Cafeteria Question" the answers gathered from 226 Professional Librarians who are work ing in University Libraries. The analyzed results show that generally the job desires of Professional Librarians in university libraries are low and stands in a situation that doesn't meet even the low dimensional needs of Maslow's theory. So the top library managers should establish the long-term plan to promote the job desire and the factors which cause the frustration of the Professional Librarians should be removed as soon as possible.

A Study of Job Stress among Librarians in Public Libraries in Pusan (부산지역 공공도서관 사서들의 직무스트레스에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to confirm what the stress factors are in performing their jobs among librarians in Public libraries. The study further investigates to figure out the difference of the degree in cognition of job stress according to demographic characteristics of individuals and the impacts of the stress factors on job satisfaction. A survey was conducted for the study sending questionaires to 113 librarians working in 14 Public libraries in Pusan. The results of the study are followings: 1) Females experience higher job stress than males. 2) The younger the age, the higher the job stress. Also, the shorter the year at work, the higher the job stress. 3) The lower the license class, the higher the job stress. Also, singles than married have higher job stress. 4) In the impacts of stress factors on job satisfaction, role conflict is the most powerful factor, and then role overload, career development, role underload, role ambiguity and interpersonal relation, each in order.

  • The purpose of this study is to find out the character types and job satisfaction of the college university librarians by using the Enneagram personality analysis tools. The study of the job satisfaction still remains as a permanent research subject in the actual field because it is directly related with library service. Furthermore, this study intends to develop the desirable professional skills of the librarians through presenting the distinctive characters that can increase the job satisfaction. It will also provide the basic materials for educating the librarians with man-power development program which can also include the distinctive characters.

  • This study analyzes the influences of the working environments and conditions(job cooperation, working condition, stress, compensation and reward, and achievement) on the job satisfactions, and the differences for the staff members to perceive them among staff members according to demographic variables. One hundred staff members of K library were participated in the survey using questionnaires. There were significant differences in the perceptions on the stress, compensation and reward, and achievement according to demographic variables. The job cooperation and achievement among work environments and conditions significantly influenced on the job satisfactions of the staff members.

  • The purpose of library automation is to enhance the library function by the computer. Systems Librarian Is the person who manages the automation systems, appeared with the presence of library automation. He/she has the professional knowlege of library and information science, experience of library services and computer technology, The purpose of this study is to introduce the role, characteristics, details of job, nature about systems librarian and to sugest how to educate them.   • In this study, a research model was designed and verified in order to determine whether the communication styles of public library managers affect employees' empowerment, job satisfaction, and life satisfaction. A survey was conducted among employees of four public libraries in the Gyeonggi region and 24 libraries in Seoul, and 229 valid responses were analyzed. The analysis revealed that authoritative communication style influenced employees' job satisfaction, while social communication style influenced their empowerment. Additionally, employees' empowerment impacted their job satisfaction, which in turn affected their life satisfaction. This implies that job satisfaction and life satisfaction of the employees can be achieved after communication and empowerment were well established within the organization. This study is meaningful in suggesting an effective management direction for strengthening the essence and foundation of public libraries by examining the theoretical significance and implications of the research result. This study also suggested that in the future, another research should be conducted based on a variety of characteristics by integrating the different communication styles of researchers.

An Analysis of Job Roles and Competency Levels Recognized by Teacher Librarians (사서교사가 인식하는 직무 역할과 역량 수준 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to identify how teacher librarians perceive the importance of each job and the expected job of other teachers and students, and to obtain basic information on their job recognition and to derive their jobs to be improved. To this end, after modifying the 25 jobs selected by Lim Jeong-hoon et al.(2021), 210 librarian teachers were measured for their own importance by job, the expected importance of other teachers and students, and the level of evaluation of their own performance ability. As a result of the analysis, teacher librarians recognized 'reading education and literacy education' as the most important, but recognized 'library event' as the most important task expected of other teachers and students, and recognized that 'library usage guidance' was the most outstanding. In addition, there were nine jobs that needed to be improved.

  • The purpose of this study is to practice the library tour program for pre-librarians, to analyze the impact of the library tour program for pre-librarians on librarian job's perception, and to present the educational meaning of library tour program for pre-librarians to the library & information science academies, the librarians in charge of the library tour, and pre-librarians. For doing this, the 29 pre-librarians participated in a library tour are surveyed by the questionnaires before and after library tour program. As a result, it's revealed that the library tour program for pre-librarians is proved to be the educational effects that it establishes the per-librarians' attitudes for librarian job performance. It's meaningful that this study presents the education effects of library tour program to the librarians in charge of library tour program and the pre-librarians.

Analysis of Connectivity between Jobs in University Libraries (대학도서관의 직무 연결성 분석)

  • Social network analysis was performed on 545 job descriptions in 32 university libraries in Seoul, and drew the job distribution and their relations. Furthermore, for finding the differences according to scale of libraries, this study performed secondary analysis by dividing them two groups. Results show that large scale library show lower density and loose connectivity than small scale library. And while jobs of small scale library were clustered 3 groups, large scale university cluster 4 groups containing 1 technical job and 3 diverse user services. And the jobs that has high specificity, such as catalog or classification, shows high degree centrality in the case of small scale library. Whereas in large scale library they show lower degree centrality, so it can be said that these jobs were performed somewhat independently in large scale libraries.

  • In this study, the Department of Library & Information Science's Students are including their cognitive for the employment prospects of library information, it wants to know satisfaction with current curriculum, job preparation, and requirements for job - related programs. The result, first of all, the students of the field of employment hope was that the library was the field of employment and the public library was the highest one of them. Second, areas of employment were that the Seoul Gyeonggi-do Province showed the highest regardless of the location of the university. Third, the satisfaction of the university curriculum is high, It appeared to be desirable that was field - based employment program. Fourth, The difficulty in preparing for employment was the lack of employment information. Fifth, The factors influencing job choice were working conditions, retirement benefits, welfare benefits, and remuneration. Therefore, to increase the employment rate of students, it was required by the establishment of job information system, reinforcement of field - based training courses, and improvement of local employment conditions and the environment.
