  • The aim of our research was to apply experimental design methodology in the optimization of N, N-Dimethyl-4-nitrosoaniline (RNO, which is indictor of OH radical formation) degradation using gas mixing-circulation plasma process. The reaction was mathematically described as a function of four independent variables [voltage ($X_1$), gas flow rate ($X_2$), liquid flow rate ($X_3$) and time ($X_4$)] being modeled by the use of the central composite design (CCD). RNO removal efficiency was evaluated using a second-order polynomial multiple regression model. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) showed a high coefficient of determination ($R^2$) value of 0.9111, thus ensuring a satisfactory adjustment of the second-order polynomial multiple regression model with the experimental data. The application of response surface methodology (RSM) yielded the following regression equation, which is an empirical relationship between the RNO removal efficiency and independent variables in a coded unit: RNO removal efficiency (%) = $77.71+10.04X_1+10.72X_2+1.78X_3+17.66X_4+5.91X_1X_2+3.64X_2X_3-8.72X_2X_4-7.80X{_1}^2-6.49X{_2}^2-5.67X{_4}^2$. Maximum RNO removal efficiency was predicted and experimentally validated. The optimum voltage, air flow rate, liquid flow rate and time were obtained for the highest desirability at 117.99 V, 4.88 L/min, 6.27 L/min and 24.65 min, respectively. Under optimal value of process parameters, high removal(> 97 %) was obtained for RNO.

  • This study compares Customer Satisfaction Index(CSI) and the weight for each dimension by applying various methods of weight calculation and attempts to suggest some implications. For the purpose, the study classified the methods of weight calculation into the subjective method and the statistical method. Constant sum scale was used for the subjective method, and the statistical method was again segmented into correlation analysis, principal component analysis, factor analysis, structural equation model. The findings showed that there is difference between the weights from the subjective method and the statistical method. The order of the weights by the analysis methods were classified with similar patterns. Besides, the weight for each dimension by different methods of weight calculation showed considerable deviation and revealed the difference of discrimination and stability among the dimensions. Lastly, the CSI calculated by various methods of weight calculation showed to be the highest in structural equation model, followed by in the order of regression analysis, correlation analysis, arithmetic mean, principal component analysis, constant sum scale and factor analysis. The CSI calculated by each method showed to have statistically significant difference.

  • The search method that web services offers has its limitations. The search service considers only functional factors based on the client's preferences. In order to improve the web service search - which alone only considers functional factors - our research introduces an execution phase which performs both functional and non-functional factors by utilizing WSDL and matching information. Our research studies the architecture of both the service selecting method and the selecting process to help determine the best service solution for the client. We do so, taking into consideration the client's preferences. Our research also studies selecting methods for the best overall service. This service not only considers the matching of functional factors provided by the web service's selecting process, but it is also accommodating by matching the information as defined by the client. This paper research can offer the best quality service preferred by any end-user. Again, this is done by utilizing web services that considers the user's non-functional factors identified by the web service's selecting process and also by extracting matching information.

  • Like acupuncture, magnetic therapy has been known to yield effectiveness when it is applied to relieve from fatigue, musculoskelectal diseases, sore sites, rheumatic arthritis and chronic pain syndromes. However, combined application of acupuncture and magnet has not yet been studied. This study is designed to investigate effectiveness of acupuncture therapy when in the magnetic field for the pain relief. Magnetic field was made by magnetic ring ($7{\psi}{\times}2.3{\psi}{\times}1.5mm$). Twenty-one male swimmers with latent muscular pain at the GB21 area in the university course of physical education in Daegu were chosen and divided into three groups; 1) acupuncture treatment group (n=7), 2) acupuncture treatment with iron ring group (n=7), 3) acupuncture treatment with magnetic ring group (n=7). Manual Acupuncture was given to the GB21 point for 20 minutes. The degree of pressure pain threshold (PPT, $kg/cm^2$) in GB21 was measured with algometer. Before acupuncture treatment, the PPT values were $6.08{\pm}1.69$, $6.39{\pm}1.72$ and $5.59{\pm}1.11$ in acupuncture treatment group, acupuncture treatment with iron ring group, acupuncture treatment with magnetic ring group, respectively. After acupuncture treatment, the PPT values were $6.48{\pm}2.33$, $6.31{\pm}1.31$ and $6.59{\pm}1.80$, respectively. Pressure threshold was significantly increased in the acupuncture treatment with magnetic ring group compared to the other groups. Based on these results, acupuncture treatment with magnetic ring produced better effects on pain threshold, and these effects can be considered to be associated with the currents or voltages induced by the acupuncture needle and magnetic ring at present.

  • This paper investigates the attitudes of medical users toward Korean oriental medicine and traditional Chinese medicine and their future demand. The subjects are 404 university students both in Korea and in China. The items that were questioned in this paper were the attitudes toward Korean oriental medicine and traditional Chinese medicine, the experience of using the medicine, the reason they used the traditional medicine, the factors that made them satisfied with the medicine, and the future plan for using the traditional medicine. The reason the university students were selected as subjects was that they have more possibilities as future users of the traditional medicine. This paper show that Chinese students have more positive attitude toward the traditional medicine than Korean students. The Koreans' experience rate of using the traditional medicine was comparatively high and the subjects in both the countries used the western medicine for the symptoms of a cold and dental problems. For the illness of stomach, Korean and Chinese subjects used the traditional medicine and the western medicine half and half. This paper presented the subjects with the common 14 diseases that they can have and asked which medicine they will use when they have the diseases. The results of analysis indicate that the subjects tend to use different medical institution according to the diseases. The subjects in Korea and China selected different medical institution for the same disease. From the analysis of the questionnaire, it can be seen that there are some differences between Koreans and Chinese in using the medical institution, which results from the difference in medical culture and the relationship between the traditional medicine and medical users could be figured out.
