  • This study investigated that the numerical experiment for analysis on free overtopping flow by a weir of levee type, as the first stage of the development of a numerical technique for prediction methodology based on a numerical model. Using 2-dimensional flow models, Nays2DH, we conducted numerical simulations based on existing experimental data to compare and verify the models. We firstly discussed the numerical reproducibility for the discontinued flow by weir shape, and calibrated the computational flow through preprocessing of channel bed. Further, we carried out and compared the simulations for prediction on the overtopping flow by the number of weir gates. As a result of simulations, we found that the maximum flow velocity of downstream of weir increases when the number of weir gates increases under the same cross sectional area of flow. Through such results, this study could present basic data for hydraulic research to consider the water flow and sediment transport depending on weir operation in the future work.

  • This study investigated the scheme for correctly making Korean fashion design known to the world. It attempted to increase the influence of the Eighteenth Century Costume in contemporary fashion. During the 18th century, France had an almost complete monopoly of fashion. Growing out the fairyland atmosphere of the French Court and often conceived of as ennui by personal vanity, this fashion was a product of an age which sought at any price to live life with supreme grace. Most of the special costume exhibitions in the Metropolitan Museum of Art are planned and directed by Polaire Weissman, Diana Vreeland, Richard Martin, Harold Koda. The Costume Institute has held exhibitions of the Eighteenth Century Costume several times such as "Museum Period Rooms Re-Occupied in Style," "the Eighteenth Century Women," "the Ceaseless Century," "Dangerous Liaisons," etc. Especially, the exhibition of "Dangerous Liaisons" is organized in ten parts such as the Portrait, the Levee, the Music Lesson, the Withdrawing Room, the Broken Vase, the Favorite, the Masked Beauty, the Card Game, the Late Supper, and the Shop. Using the eighteenth century as its touchstone, The Ceaseless Century proceeds differently, not seeking the short distance between a discrete present and the multiple past but rather showing the complicated navigation that comes of revivalism swing to and fro on the timeline of history and sensibility. The designers featured include Karl Lagerfeld, Gianni Versace, Vivienne Westwood, Jean Paul Gaultier, Christian Dior, Cristobal Balencicga, Christian Lacroix, Stella McCartney forChloe, Olivier Theyskens, Alexander McQueen, etc. Therefore, Korean designers should refrain from (Ed-confirm) the foreign collection without a clear purpose and should devote their effort to create with an active attitude.

  • This paper reports the results of afield appliance study of the hydraulic well method to prevent embankment seepage, the large-scale embankment experiment and seepage analysis to examine the traits of the seepage pressure. The experimental procedure was focused on the pore pressure after examining the detected value of the pore pressure gage. The inner water levels of hydraulic well were compared with the pore pressure data, which were used to inspect the seepage variations. Two different large-scale experiments were conducted according to the installation points of the hydraulic wells. The decrease in seepage pressure reached a maximum of 37% from the experimental results. The experimental pore pressure results were similar to those of the analyses. In addition, the pore pressure oriented from the water level variations of the hydraulic well showed similar patterns between the experiment and analysis, but if the hydraulic well was deeper, the analyzed water levels were larger than the experimental values.

  • In a river bend the water surface is inclined by the centrifugal force toward the transverse section. If channel slope and flow rate increase, the gradient is rising generally. There are lots of the flood damage at the bends of mountain river because the flood water levels have exceeded frequently the levee levels which are added a free board to the design flood water level. Therefore the superelevation should be considered in designing the mountainous river bend. In present study it was proposed to estimate the superelevation at the bend of mountain river and the superelevation coefficient defined from multiplying the sub-factors. The values of the influence factors for the superelevation coefficient were suggested from analyzing the superelevation measured at the bends in Yangyangnamdae river and the hydraulic experiments in gravel-bed channel with a $90^{\circ}$ bend. The applicability of these methods to estimate the superelevation at the bends in mountain river was verified by the superelevation measured at the bend in Naerin river.

  • Bank protection is a structure constructed to protect directly embankment breakage and erosion by river flow. Traditionally, the type of bank protection has been decided by practitioner's subjective and empirical judgement, which often causes problems after construction. Recently, however, it becomes important to consider not only physical protection but also environment. Various types of bank protection for environment-friendly river are now available. Thus, there is a need for more objective and quantitative decision method for bank protection work. This study adopts the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) to improve the objectiveness in the decision of bank protection work. Criteria for stability, economy, construction, environment are identified and a standardized process is presented for field application. With the proposed method, one can prioritize various bank protection works and make the optimal decision. We believe that the method can serve as a useful tool for river engineers in practice.

  • The aims of this study are to clarify the geomorphological development of a alluvial plain and discuss the vegetation environments and agriculture activities in the Wangpo-River alluvial plain at Neungsan-ri, Buyeo by analyzing geomorphological classification, sedimentary facies and age datings. The alluvial plain at Wangpo-River was formed by the influences of Geum-River with the sea-level rising during the Holocene. The basin of Wangpo-River consists of natural levees, back marsh-type alluvial plains, valley plains and hills. The natural levees by Geum-River largely distributes at the area where Wangpo-River flows to Geum-River and the alluvial plains at the middle and lower reach are the back marsh areas of Geum-River. Moreover, the area along Wangpo-River show higher contents of coarse materials and thinner peat sediments than the back marsh. The lower sandy deposits in the alluvium of Wangpo-River was formed with the influences of human in the Bronze Age during the sea level falling and the peaty deposits was formed due to the water level rising of Wangpo-River during the sea level rising in the early Iron Age.

  • It is matter of common knowledge to give impetus to the water resources development to cope with increasing demand and supply for the water utilization project including agricultural living and industrial water owing to the economic and civilization development in recent years. Regional design rainfall is necessary or the design of the dam reservoir levee and drainage facilities for the development of various kinds of essential waters including agricultural water. For the estimation of the regional design rainfall classification of the climatologically an geographically homogeneous regions should be preceded preferentially This study was mainly conducted to derive the optimal regionalization of the precipitation data which can be classified by the climatologically and geographically homogeneous regions all over the regions except Cheju and Wulreung islands in Korea. A total of 65 rain gauges were used to regional analysis of precipitation. Annual maximum series for the consecutive durations of 1, 3, 6, 12, 24, 36, 48 and 72hr were used for various statistical analysis. Both K-means clustering and mean annual precipitation methods are used to identify homogeneous regions all over the regions. Nine and five homogeneous regions for the precipitation were classified by the K-means clustering and mean annual methods, respectively. Finally, Five homogeneous regions were established by the trial and error method with homogeneity test using statistics of $\chi$$^2$ distribution.

  • In this study, we compared and analyzed the static and dynamic analysis method for agricultural reservoirs. In addition, we assumed the aging of reservoir as the deterioration of the internal friction angle and cohesion. The internal friction angle and cohesion were applied by dividing into 4 case for each reservoir. As a result of comparing the stability of the reservoir embankment, it was found that the dynamic stability analysis method showed a greater risk than the static stability analysis method when dynamic loads such as earthquakes were applied. Therefore, when detailed review such as liquefaction is required, it is considered that the dynamic stability analysis method should be applied first. If a study on the change in material properties due to the aging of the reservoir is conducted, the stability analysis of the reservoir due to the aging of the reservoir can be performed more accurately. In addition, if a study comparing the results of dynamic stability analysis and static stability analysis for earthquakes with various characteristics for more reservoirs is conducted, detailed criteria for the case where dynamic stability analysis should be considered can be presented.

  • Topsoil including numerous soil seedbanks has been known to be a valuable material for ecological restoration. There is a lack of specific study for its utilization in the field of stream restoration. This study conducted a revaluation of the value of topsoil as a material for stream restoration. Furthermore, an ecological technique using topsoil was applied in an improvement project of a stream environment at the Hwanggujicheon Stream in Korea. Stockpiling and spreading topsoil was specifically applied to the revegetation of a low slope revetment and a high flow plain. The result of this application showed that topsoil played an integral role in eco-friendly restoration in terms of ecological, flood control, economic, and constructional aspects. In conclusion, this study's findings suggest that topsoil is a suitable candidate material for stream restoration.
