  • Microstereolithography technology is similar to the conventional stereolithography process and enables to fabricate a complex 3D microstructure. This is divided into scanning and projection type according to aiming at precision and fabrication speed. The scanning MSL fabricates each layer using position control of laser spot on the resin surface, whereas the projection MSL fabricates one layer with one exposure using a mask. In the projection MSL, DMD used to generate dynamic pattern consists of $1024{\times}768$ micromirrors which have $13.68{\mu}m$ per side. The fabrication range and resolution are determined by the field of view of the DMD and the magnification of the projection lens. If using the projection lens with high power, very fine microstructures can be fabricated. In this paper, the projection MSL system adapted to a large surface for array-type fabrication is presented. This system covers the meso range, which is defined as the intermediate range between micro and macro, with a resolution of a few ${\mu}m$. The fabrication of array-type microstructures has been demonstrated to verify the performance of implemented system.

  • The characteristics of stimulated Brillouin scattering wave for applications to high power laser was experimentally investigated. The peak power reflectivity and the phase conjugation fidelity of Stokes wave with respect to the focal length of lens were measured, and the phase conjugation fidelity for a compressed part of the Stokes wave was also investigated. For the long focal length of lens.(f=100 cm), the peak power of the Stokes wave amounts to about twice as high as that of incident wave. The phase conjugation fidelity for the compressed leading pulse is up to 90%, better than that for other temporal parts of the Stokes pulse. In spatial distribution, the Stokes pulse from the axial region has the largest SBS gain, and it has been ascertained as a best candidate to the application due to excellent pulse compression, peak power reflectivity, and good phase conjugation fidelity.

  • Laser surface hardening technologies have been used to improve characteristics of wear and to enhance the fatigue resistance for automotive parts. The objective of this research work is to investigate the influence of the process parameters, such as power of laser and defocused spot position, on the characteristics of laser heat treatment for the case of SM45C medium carbon steel. CW Nd:YAG laser is selected as the heat source. The optical lens with the elliptical profile is designed to obtain a wide heat treatment area with a uniform hardness. From the results of the experiments, it has been shown that the maximum hardness is approximatly 780 Hv when the power and the travel speed of laser are 1,095 W and 0.6 m/min, respectively. In addition, the hardening width using the elliptical lens was three time larger than that using the defocusing of laser beam.

  • While most of studies have paid attention to the initial adoption of a specific application, research on applications has not focused on an individual's update decision process. This study draws upon both dual information processing and status quo bias perspectives as a comprehensive theoretical lens to explain why individuals do not update their applications. This study assumes that individuals' inertia could be the main reason for their reluctance to update the applications. Based on a survey of 186 smartphone users, this study demonstrated that both habit as an affective trigger of system 1 thinking and sunk cost as a cognitive trigger of system 2 thinking promoted the two types of inertia (i.e., affective and cognitive based inertia) in individuals, which have a negative effect on their willingness to update their applications. By grounding the research model in a theoretical view, such as dual information processing and status quo bias, this study provides a unique theoretical lens from which to view individuals' behaviors, thereby gaining a better understanding of their decision not to update to the current version of applications. This study also investigates the moderating effect of the types of applications on the relationships between affective/cognitive-based inertia and willingness to update. Results show that both habit and sunk cost decrease the willingness to update because they increase both affective and cognitive-based inertia. This study also found that the effects of affective/cognitive based inertia differed depending on the type of applications.

  • In order to evaluate the performance of phone camera lenses, we have developed equipment for measuring the modulation transfer function(MTF) for small size lenses. The equipment is composed of an an image analyzer, object generator, and a lens mount. The object generator is rotated for on and off-axis measurement. The lens mount is of horizontal type and tiltable for precise alignment to the optical axis. After the initial alignment process, the measurement is done within 10 seconds automatically

  • Rapidly developing IT technologies in recent years have raised the demands for high-precision optical lenses used for sensors, digital cameras, cell phones and optical storage media. Many techniques are required to manufacturing high-precision optical lenses, including multi-beam sensing lenses investigated in the current study. In the case of injection molding for thick lenses, a shrinkage phenomenon often occurs during the process. This shrinkage is known to be the main reason for the lower optical quality of the lenses. In the present work, a CAE analysis was conducted simultaneously with experiments to understand and minimize this phenomenon. In particular, the sectional area of a gate was varied in order to understand the effects of packing and cooling processes on the final shrinkage pattern. As a result of this study, it was demonstrated that a dramatic reduction of the shrinkage could be obtained by increasing the width of the gate.
