  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of aging and dual tasking to the postural control during quiet standing. It was hypothesized that the center of pressure (COP) dynamics would be differently affected by aging and characteristics of the task. Total 60 adults (35 young adults and 25 older adults) participated in this study. They conducted two different standing tasks (dual vs. Nondual) twice in a random order. Variability, complexity, coupling and symmetric index from the left, right and overall COPs were measured by various parameters in nonlinear, linear and frequency analyses methods. Results demonstrated that older adults had worse performance in postural control with decreased complexity in overall sway movement, and increased coupling between left and right limb COP movement, even though there was no significant difference in symmetric index. These tendencies are generally clearer in nonlinear measures at the dual task condition. Results implied that older adults had compensatory strategy in dual tasking which results in simple and combined postural movement patterns.

  • The symmetry is general geometric design principal in contemporary architecture shape. But, Symmetry sometimes easily causes unreasonable design. In some reason, two of symmetric units in the apartment, one side of unit have very reasonable plan and arrangement but opposite side unit nay not. For example, if the kitchen on right unit had right-handed arrangement, the symmetrical other would have left-handed kitchen arrangement. In addition to this, if each house unit has the same plan but different direction, each unit has different usage or affects the residents' life pattern. Nevertheless, Architects use only one unit plan to design public housing development by using symmetric operator (mirror, proper rotation, inversion center) at their option. This study suggests that using group theory and mathematical matrix rather than designer's discretion can solve this symmetry problem clearly. And, this study analysis the merits and demerits between each symmetrical pair of unit plan shapes by using mathematical point group theory and matrix.

  • In this paper, we define right singular clean rings as rings in which every element can be written as a sum of a right singular element and an idempotent. Several properties of these rings are investigated. It is shown that for a ring R, being singular clean is not left-right symmetric. Also the relations between (nil) clean rings and right singular clean rings are considered. Some examples of right singular clean rings have been constructed by a given one. Finally, uniquely right singular clean rings and weakly right singular clean rings are also studied.

  • Objectives : There are few reports on treatment of thoracic outlet syndrome in the field of traditional Korean medicine. The aim of this study is to report a case of a 29-year-old male patient diagnosed with thoracic outlet syndrome, whose symptoms were relieved after 3-week integrated Korean medical treatment. Methods : A patient diagnosed with thoracic outlet syndrome was admitted into the Korean medicine hospital. The patient had left shoulder pain and left arm numbness. The pain was worse if it had become cold. The patient was treated using Sa-am acupuncture(Daejangseunggyeok), sweet bee venom acupuncture, herbal medicine and other treatment including physical therapy from September 7th to 27th of 2012. Improvement of the patient's symptoms was evaluated by verbal numerical rating scale(VNRS), skin surface temperature difference between the left and right symmetric part of digital infrared thermographic image(DITI). Results : After 3-weeks of treatment, VNRS decreased and skin surface temperature difference between the left and right symmetric part of DITI showed moderate improvement. Conclusions : The results suggest that integrated Korean medical treatment may affect to reduce the symptoms of thoracic outlet syndrome. Further study is needed to evaluate the importance of this report.

  • This article concerns a property of Abelain π-regular rings. A ring R shall be called right quasi-DR if for every a ∈ R there exists n ≥ 1 such that C(R)an ⊆ aR, where C(R) means the monoid of regular elements in R. The relations between the right quasi-DR property and near ring theoretic properties are investigated. We next show that the class of right quasi-DR rings is quite large.

  • In this paper, the symmetric position drift of the integration approach in pedestrian dead reckoning (PDR) system with dual foot-mounted IMU is analyzed. The PDR system that uses the inertial sensor attached to the shoe is called the IA-based PDR system. Since this system is designed based on the inertial navigation system (INS), it has the same characteristics as the error of the INS, then zero-velocity update (ZUPT) is used to correct this error. However, an error that cannot be compensated perfectly by ZUPT exists, and the trend of the position error is the symmetric direction along the side of the shoe(left, right foot) with the IMU attached. The symmetric position error along the side of the shoe gradually increases with walking. In this paper, we analyze the causes of symmetric position drift and show the results. It suggests the possibility of factors other than the error factors that are generally considered in the PDR system based on the integration approach.

  • Let R = $Mat_2(F)$ be the ring of all 2 by 2 matrices over a finite field F, X the set of all nonzero, nonunits of R and G the group of all units of R. After investigating some properties of orbits under the left (and right) regular action on X by G, we show that the graph automorphisms group of $\Gamma(R)$ (the zero-divisor graph of R) is isomorphic to the symmetric group $S_{|F|+1}$ of degree |F|+1.

  • We study the structure of right regular commutators, and call a ring R strongly C-regular if ab - ba ∈ (ab - ba)2R for any a, b ∈ R. We first prove that a noncommutative strongly C-regular domain is a division algebra generated by all commutators; and that a ring (possibly without identity) is strongly C-regular if and only if it is Abelian C-regular (from which we infer that strong C-regularity is left-right symmetric). It is proved that for a strongly C-regular ring R, (i) if R/W(R) is commutative, then R is commutative; and (ii) every prime factor ring of R is either a commutative domain or a noncommutative division ring, where W(R) is the Wedderburn radical of R.

  • PURPOSE: The purpose of the present study was to examine changes caused by asymmetric bag carrying methods to carry the bag with one shoulder only to plantar pressure during walking. METHODS: Twenty three normal adults without any gait problem participated in the present study. Experimental conditions used consisted of walking without carrying any bag(condition 1), walking wearing a bag on both shouders (condition 2), and walking wearing a bag on the right shoulder(condition 3) and the weight of the bag was set to 15% of each subject's body weight. All the subjects were instructed to participate in all experiments under these three conditions and plantar pressures were measured from the subjects' right and left feet using an F-scan system while the subjects were walking under the three conditions. To analyze the measured plantar pressure, the sole was divided into seven areas (Hallux, Toe, Met1, Met23, Met45, Mid foot and Heel) and maximum plantar pressures in individual areas were measured. RESULTS: The results of measurement of plantar pressures under three walking conditions did not show significant changes in any areas of the left and right feet except for the mid foot area of the right food. The asymmetry between the left and right feet was examined and the results showed significant differences only in area Met23 under condition 2 and did not show significant differences in any other areas. CONCLUSION: On comprehensively considering the results of the present study, it could be seen that asymmetric bag carrying did not have large effects on changes in plantar pressure during walking compared to symmetric carrying. The reason for this is considered to be posture adjusting mechanisms against load positions.

  • Purpose: After surgical interventions of mandible fractures, facial asymmetry can be occurred, and it leads to serious problems for patients. This can be solved by mandible angle ostectomy. Methods: A 19-year-old male underwent percutaneous surgical intervention for left mandibular angle and right parasymphyseal fractures 3.5 years ago. The left angle was protruded compared to the other side. Using a percutaneous approach, $4.5{\times}1cm$ sized piece of mandible angle was sawed off. For the right angle, intraoral approach was performed for angle ostectomy, and the angle was sawed off by a size of $4{\times}1cm$, using a pattern based on the piece from the left side. Results: After surgery, no complications such as subcondylar fractures, refractures, insufficient corrections, secondary angle formations, hematomas, and transient nerve palsies were seen, and symmetric correction of mandible angles were done. Conclusion: In facial asymmetries due to mandibular fractures, mandible ostectomy could be a solution. Using the bone section from the contralateral side, measurement of the amount of bone sawed off was possible, and via percutaneous approach on the previously operated site with simultaneous scar revision, and intraoral approach for the contralateral side, cosmetically satisfactory result was obtained.
