뇌활용성향과 기업경영 : 이병철회장과 정주영회장을 통한 탐험적 추론 (Brain Preference and Management : An Exploratory Reasoning from the Founders of Samsung and Hyundai Group, Lee and Chung)

  • The Purpose of the current study is to identify the differences between Samsung and Hyundai Group and the causes why the differences occurred. The study focuses on the founders of the two group as a main source of the differences, especially brain preference of the two founders. Two steps were employed to perform the study. Firstly, the two founders' characteristics were analyzed by using archival research. It was implicitly hypothesized that Group founders' characteristics explained the differences of the two Groups. It was found that the founder of Samsung Group, the late president Lee emphasized rationality, analysis, and cause/effect relationship and low risk taking, suggesting that he had left-brain preference. In contrast. the late president Chung, the founder of Hyundai Group, emphasized intuition, wholeness, contextual meaning, and risk taking, showing that he had right-brain preference. Secondly, a comparison between the two groups was performed in terms of business and financial risk in corporate portfolio, and management system. It was found that Hyundai Group was pursuing higher risk than Samsung Group. And it was observed that Samsung Group put more emphasis on formality in decision making and systematic control, and less emphasis on risk taking than Hyundai Group. From the two step research relationship between brian preference and management was reasoned. Research implications and limitations were discussed at the end of the study.

노년기 알파 고유리듬 진폭, 비대칭 및 평균 주파수의 뇌건강 지표로써 활용 가능성 연구 (The Availability of Amplitude, Asymmetry and Mean Frequency of Alpha Intrinsic Rhythm in Old Age as Brain Health Indicators)

  • 본 연구는 노년기 Alpha 리듬의 진폭, 비대칭 및 평균 주파수가 뇌건강 상태를 반영할 수 있는 뇌파 지표로써 임상적 활용 가능성이 있는지 알아보고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 평균 나이 73세 남녀 노인 72명을 대상으로 폐안 시 전전두엽의 뇌파를 4분간 측정하였다. 집단 구분은 Alpha 진폭, 비대칭 및 평균주파수의 평균값을 각각 기준으로 높은집단과 낮은집단으로 분류하였다. 뇌파 지표들 간 상관관계와 t-검정을 실시한 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫 번째, Alpha 진폭이 높아지면 육체적·정신적 스트레스 저항도와 좌·우뇌 소통수준도 높아졌으며, Alpha 평균주파수 위치는 낮아졌다. 또한 Alpha 비대칭이 높아지면 좌·우뇌의 소통수준은 낮아지는 상관관계를 보였다. 두 번째, 좌뇌에 비해 우뇌의 Alpha 파워가 높아지면 Alpha 진폭과 정신적 스트레스 저항도, 좌·우뇌 소통수준도 높아졌다. 세 번째, Alpha 평균주파수 위치가 높아지면 Alpha 진폭과 정신적 항스트레스 지표는 낮아지고 각성 수준은 높아졌다. 이상과 같이 정량화 뇌파 지표들은 서로 간 관련성이 높고, 보완적 의미가 있어 노년기 뇌건강 상태를 반영하는 생체 표지자로써의 가능성을 보여주었다.

과학과 미술 통합프로그램이 초등과학영재의 뇌 활성에 미치는 효과 (The Effects of Science and Art Integrated Program on Brain Activity of Gifted Students in Science)

  • This study is to activate gifted students' brains for creativity ability and also an integrated science and art teaching program. The learning programs integrating science and art, which have 30 periods and 10 topics on art and the knowledge of science, were developed dependant on five steps - observing, having interests and curiosity, experimental designing and performing, internalizing, and expressing in an arts-based manner. This programs were applied to 20 senior gifted students in Y Elementary School in Gyeonggi province, by one group pretest-posttest design. The results from these integrated programs of science and art are as follows: First, in the performance of science tasks, prefrontal lobe(F7, FT7) of left brain increase the relative power of theta wave, whereas in the performance of drawing tasks increase the relative power of beta wave in prefrontal lobe(FP1) of left brain, bilateral frontal(F7, F3, Fz, F4, F8, FT7, FC3, FCz), bilateral temporal(T7, TP7, TP8, P7), parietal lobe of left brain(CP3, CPz, P3, Pz), bilateral occipital(O1, Oz, O2). Second, in the performance of science tasks, the relative power of beta wave activity in the left temporal lobe(T7) of the brains of talented students in science significantly decreased whereas it was greatly activated in another part, the left frontal lobe(F3) of the brain (p<.05). Third, in the performance of drawing tasks, the relative power of theta wave activity in five areas of the brain, namely the left temporal lobe(T7), the left frontal lobe(F3), the right frontal lobe(F4), and the left and right parietal lobes of gifted students in science who took the course of the integrated programs, was considerably increased statistically(p<.05). On top of that, these programs were especially effective in balancing the symmetrical development of both cerebral hemispheres by multiplying theta wave activity in the frontal lobes(F3, F4) and the parietal lobes(CP3, P3, P4), which are particularly related to creative thinking. According to the results of this study of brain-based teaching strategies combining science and art, it is an effective program to develop overall activate gifted students' brains for creativity ability. This is expected to be utilized to activate the brain areas for creativity of gifted students in science.

Brain Activity Related with Mathematics Anxiety

  • For the purpose of determining neurophysiological mechanism of math anxiety, we conducted an EEG measurement for 22 sixth grade elementary students including 11 students with high math anxiety (HMA group), and 11 students with low math anxiety (LMA group). We found that in HMA group, delta wave was significantly generated from the right frontal lobe, and in LMA group, four paths are clearly connected while they perform math tasks (right inferior occipital gyrus ${\leftrightarrow}$ left superior parietal lobule /left middle frontal gyrus ${\leftrightarrow}$ left inferior parietal lobule /left middle frontal gyrus ${\leftrightarrow}$ right inferior parietal lobule / right middle frontal gyrus ${\leftrightarrow}$ right inferior parietal lobule). According to the above results we suggest that math anxiety is related to emotions associated with pain, reduces working memory and has a negative effect on math performance.

Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy of Brain Tumor

  • As intensity modulated radiation therapy compared with conventional radiation therapy, tumor target dose increased and normal tissues and critical organs dose reduced. In brain tumor, treatment planning of intensity modulated radiation therapy was practiced in 4MV, 6MV, 15MV X-ray energy. In these X-ray energy, was considered the dose distribution and dose volume histogram. As 4MV X-ray compared with 6MV and 15MV, maximum dose of right optic-nerve increased 10.1 %, 8.4%. Right eye increased 5.2%, 2.7%. And left optic-nerve, left eye, optic chiasm and brainstem incrased 1.7% - 5.2%. Even though maximum dose of PTV and these critical organs show different from 1.7% - 10.1% according to X-ray energies, these are a piont dose. Therefore in brain tumor, treatment planning of intensity modulated radiation therapy in 9 treatment field showed no relation with energy dependency.

예비유아교사의 창의성 교사교육 프로그램 개발을 위한 두뇌우성사고 유형에 따른 언어 창의성 분석 연구 (Analysis of linguistic creativity according to the types of brain dominance for developing pre-service early childhood teachers' creativity teacher education program)

  • 본 연구는 예비유아교사의 창의성 교사교육 프로그램 개발을 위한 두뇌우성사고 유형에 따른 언어 창의성의 차이를 분석하고자 하였다. 연구대상은 유아교육과 3, 4학년 210명으로 이들에게 두뇌우성사고 유형은 Herrmann의 BDI를 실시하였고, 창의성은 TTCT:언어를 사용하였다. 자료처리는 두뇌우성사고 유형과 언어 창의성 간의 관계를 알아보기 위해 Pearson 상관분석과 두뇌우성사고 유형에 따른 창의성의 차이를 밝히고자 다변량분석을 실시하였다. 연구결과는 첫째, 좌상뇌, 좌하변연계, 우하변연계는 유창성, 융통성, 독창성 및 전체 언어 창의성과 어떠한 상관도 없었으며, 우상뇌는 유창성, 융통성, 독창성 및 전체 언어 창의성과 정적 상관을 보였다. 둘째, 좌하변연계, 우상뇌 및 우하변연계 우성 교사가 좌상뇌 우성 교사보다 유창성, 융통성, 독창성 및 전체 언어 창의성이 높게 나타났다. 이러한 예비유아교사의 두뇌우성사고 유형에 따른 언어 창의성을 분석한 결과는 두뇌기반 창의성 교사교육 프로그램을 개발하는데 시사점으로 활용될 것이다.

Video and Film Rating Algorithm using EEG Response Measurement to Content: Focus on Sexuality

  • This study attempted to analyze human brain responses toward visual content through EEG signals and intended to measure brain wave reactions of different age groups to determine the sexuality level of the media. The experimental stimuli consist of three different video footage (rated ages 12, 15, and 18) to analyze how subjects react in situations where they actually watch sexual content. For measuring and analyzing brain wave reactions, EEG equipment records alpha, beta, and gamma wave responses of the subjects' left and right frontal lobes, temporal lobes, and occipital lobes. The subjects of this study were 28 total and they are divided into two groups. The experiment configures a sexual content classification scale with age or gender as a discriminating variable and brain region-specific response frequencies (left/right, frontal/temporal/occipital, alpha/beta/gamma waves) as independent variables. The experimental results showed the possibility of distinguishing gender and age differences. The apparent differences in brain wave response areas and bands among high school girls, high school boys, and college students are found. Using these brain wave response data, this study explored the potential of developing algorithm for measurement of age-specific responses to sexual content and apply it as a film rating.

영어교육에서의 좌-우뇌 통합 교수법 (The whole-brained English teaching)

  • In this paper, I will argue that in teaching L2, it is important to take a holistic teaching method considering various learning styles of the learners and the nature of L2 learning. Under the situation that most of the school education is centered on the left brain activity, learners with the right brain preference tend to get only to the lower proficiency than they really can. To prove this, I conducted a experiment on two classes of high school students. I decided the hemispheric preference of each students using HMI (hemispheric mode indicator) Then I compared the hemispheric preferences of students with their scores in English tests. The students with right hemispheric preference show significantly lower scores than the ones with left preference. It is implied that the current English education should adapted to address various learning and cognitive styles and whole-brain L2 teaching method should replace the left-centered instruction in the learning environment.

초등학생의 대뇌반구의 지배적 특성에 따른 Holland유형과 소질의 관계분석 (The Correlational Analysis between Holland Personality Types and Gifted by the Cerebral Hemisphere Dominant Feature of Elementary School Students)

  • 본 연구는 초등학생의 대뇌반구의 지배적 특성에 따라 Holland 성격유형 및 소질이 다르게 나타내는지 검증하고, 상관관계를 살펴보는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 초등학교 4~6학년까지 679명을 대상으로 조사했다. SPSS 18.0 통계프로그램을 이용하여 빈도분석과 독립표본 t검증, 상관분석을 실시하였다. 그 결과 첫째, 예술형과 진취형이 우반구적 특성을 우세하게 보이고 있는 반면 현실형, 탐구형과 사회형, 관습형은 특징적 차이가 나타나지 않았다. 둘째, 좌반구에서 RIC(현실형 탐구형 관습형)군집이 SAE(사회형 예술형 진취형) 군집과 유의미한 차이가 있었으나 우반구는 차이가 없었다. 셋째, 창의성소질, 자연소질, 대인관계소질, 신체소질 등 소질에서는 우반구가 우세했으나 음악소질, 수리소질에서는 차이가 나타나지 않았다. 넷째, Holland 성격유형, 대뇌반구의 지배적 특성, 소질 간에는 좌반구와 예술형, 우반구와 사회형을 제외하고 상관관계가 나타났다.

Injury of Corticostriatal Tract between the Striatum and the Premotor Area in a Patient with Traumatic Brain Injury

  • Objectives: We investigated injury of corticostriatal (CStr) tract in patient with mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI), which was demonstrated by DTT. Method: A 44-year-old female with no previous history of neurological, physical, or psychiatric illness had suffered from head trauma resulting from a pedestrian car accident. She complained that could not quickly move the left hand with her intension. After three month's administration, her slowness movement of left hand recovered rapidly to the point that she was able to extend all fingers quickly. Results: On DTT configuration, the integrity of the left CStr tract was well-preserved, however the right CStr tract showed narrowing and partial tearing in the subcortical white matter on a DTT at 25 months after onset. Conclusion: Injury of the right CStr tract was demonstrated in a patient who developed mild motor control problems following mild TBI. We believe that the evaluation of the CStr tract from the secondary motor area for patients who showed unexplained motor control problem is necessary.
