The Relationship Between Life-Learning Competency and Self-Directed Learning Ability, Problem-Solving Ability, and Academic Achievement of University Students in the Context of Higher Education

  • The purpose of this study was to examine whether respondents showed gender differences in life- learning competency, self-directed learning ability, problem-solving ability, and academic achievement and to identify relationships among variables of university students in the context of higher education. To address those goal, the data set was analyzed that nationally collected from Korea Youth Competency Measurement and International Comparative Research III by National Youth Policy Institute in South Korea. 680 samples were used in the study that were 343 males and 337 females of university students. As results, statistically significant difference was showed in the participants' gender. Male university students were higher score than female university students in All variables. Also, learning agility in life-learning competency was strongly related to self-directed learning ability and problem-solving. Thinking skills in life-learning competency was strongly related to academic achievement in university students in higher education. In terms of learning strategy in the context of higher education, some suggestions have been made for university students.

  • Power electronics Is an emerging technology New applications are added every year as well as the power handling capabilities are steadily increasing. The demands to the education of engineers in this field are also increasing. Basically the content of the curriculum should be more expanded without extra study time. This paper present a teaching approach which makes it possible very fast for the student to get in-deplh skills in this important area which is the problem-oriented and project-based learning. The trend and application of power electronics are illustrated. The necessary skills for power electronic engineers are outlined followed up by a discussion on how problem-oriented and project-based learning are implemented. A complete curriculum at Aalborg University is presented where different power electronics related projects at different study levels are carried out.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate science related attitudes, scientific knowledge, and scientific inquiry skills of middle school students when HASA(3H-hand, head, heart-at Science Activity) programs were applied to them. The HASA program is a program developed as an alternative to the current educational system. There are some basic principles for developing this program; it should be fun or of interest to students; it should be a manual activity that students can do with their own hands; it should be found in everyday life; and it's final goal is to improve scientific attitudes. The learning program consists of a series of 10 activities (10 periods). One hundred and sixty-two middle school students (7th graders) participated in the study and were divided into three groups. The HASA group (N=58) was exposed to the HASA program and the Lecture group (N=59) was exposed to the expository method of learning scientific knowledge, and the Lab group (N=45) was exposed to the experiment through textbooks. The results were as follows: 1) the HASA group was marginally higher than others but with no significant difference in science related attitudes; 2) the Lecture group had a significantly greater level of achievement in science knowledge; 3) There was no difference in the improvement of scientific inquiry skills.

Distance Learning for Students with Intellectual Disability during the Emerging Coronavirus Pandemic: Opportunities and Challenges from Parents' Perspectives

  • Distance learning for students with intellectual disabilities can prove beneficial, particularly if adjusted to their educational characteristics and needs. This study seeks to identify the views of parents living in Saudi Arabia, regarding the opportunities offered by distance learning for students with intellectual disabilities, alongside their challenges during the Covid-19 pandemic. The research employed qualitative methods using semi-structured interviews with six parents of students with intellectual disabilities. The results revealed a number of both opportunities and challenges, including issues related to the family, in addition, the data highlighted difficulties related to the educational process (i.e. a lack of variety of educational methods) and technical issues related to access to the Internet and the insufficient computer skills of both teachers and students. The findings have several important implications for future practice, including the need for training workshops for parents concerning the online platform, as well as further research to determine students' perspectives of their experiences with distance learning.

동요를 동기화한 과학활동이 유아의 과학관련태도 및 과학과정기술이해에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Science Activities Motivated through Children's Songs on Young Children's Science-Related Attitudes, and Understanding of Science Process Skills)

  • 본 연구는 동요를 동기화한 과학활동이 유아의 과학관련태도 및 과학과정기술이해에 미치는 영향을 알아보고자 하였다. 연구대상은 만 5세 유아 40명을 실험집단 20명과 통제집단 20명으로 나누었다. 연구도구는 안현정(2011)의 과학관련태도 검사도구와 Samarapungavan 외(2009)가 유아용으로 개발한 과학과정기술이해 측정 문항을 번안하여 사용하였다. 실험집단에는 7주 동안 매주 3회기씩, 총 21회 동요를 동기화한 과학활동을 실시하였다. 1회기 1차시에서는 동요를 배우고 과학적 질문 찾기를 하며 2차시에서는 과학적 탐구 활동을 하였고, 3차시에서는 과학활동을 활용한 동요개사 활동을 하였다. 통제집단은 같은 기간 동요배우기, 과학활동, 음률활동을 독립된 활동으로 실시하였다. 사전 사후검사자료는 SPSS 프로그램을 이용하여 t-검증을 하였다. 연구결과는 동요를 동기화한 과학활동이 유아의 과학관련태도 및 과학과정기술이해를 향상시키는데 더 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다.

간호학생의 기본간호수행능력 영향요인 분석 (Aanalysis on the Competency of Nursing Students' Basic Nursing Skills)

  • 의료분야의 전문화와 정보화로 간호사에게 요구되는 지식과 간호기술은 증가하고 복잡해진 반면, 임상에서의 실습교육이 위축되면서 기본간호학 실습 교육과 방법의 강화 및 개선에 대한 다양한 요구와 도전에 직면하게 되었다. 본 연구는 간호학생의 기본간호수행능력과 관련된 영향요인을 분석하기 위한 횡단적 조사연구이다. 본 연구는 4년제 간호학과에서 기본간호학 과목을 수강하는 2학년 학생 중 연구참여에 동의한 총 106명을 대상으로 하였으며, 구조화된 설문지를 이용하여 자기기입식 질문지법으로 자료수집하였다. 수집된 자료는 SPSS WIN 19.0 프로그램을 이용하여 분석하였다. 대상자의 일반적 특성 중 대인관계, 성적 및 실습실 개방 자율실습 여부에 따라 기본간호수행능력에서 차이가 나타났다. 간호학생의 기본간호수행 능력에 영향을 미치는 요인은 학습만족도, 의사소통능력과 자기주도성 이었으며, 이들 변인은 기본간호수행능력 총 변량의 49.9%를 설명하였다. 이상의 결과를 바탕으로 간호학생에서 기본간호수행능력을 증진시키기 위해서는 실습실 개방 자율 실습방법을 적용하고 간호학생의 지각된 대인관계 정도와 성적 특성을 고려하며, 자기주도성, 전문직 자아개념, 의사소통능력 및 학습만족도를 증진시킬 수 있는 교육방법으로서 blended learning을 제언한다.

동료학습을 적용한 조리실무관련 실습과목 학습부진 대학생의 주관성 연구 (A Study on Subjectivity of Underachievers on Peer Assisted Learning in Culinary Skills related Subject)

  • 본 연구는 동료학습을 적용한 조리실무관련 실습과목의 학습부진 대학생의 주관적 인식유형을 분석하여 조리실무 관련 수업의 보다 나은 교육효율성 제고를 위한 기초 자료를 제공하고자 한다. 또한 소규모 학생들의 주관적 인식에 대한 연구를 위해 Q방법론을 이용하여 분석하였으며, 주관적 인식들 사이에서 발견되는 공통적인 특징의 분석을 통해 총 3가지의 유형을 도출하였다. 제 1유형(N=8) : 학습효과 증대 형 (Increase learning effectiveness type), 제 2유형(N=8): 소극적 학생에 대한 수업자료개발 필요 (Development of lesson materials for passive students), 제3유형(N=6): 실습형 자기주도학습 개발 필요 (Practical self-directed learning needs development)은 각각 고유의 특징을 가진 유형으로 분석되었다. 결과적으로 조리실무관련 실습과목의 학습부진 학생들에게 동료학습을 적용함으로서 학습부진학생들의 수업흥미유발, 실수감소로 인한 자신감 상승 등의 학습효과증대와 추가학습에 대한 인식 증가와 주도적 학습 참여 유도와 같은 긍정적인 학습효과를 가져왔음을 발견하였으나, 일부학생의 경우 동료학생에 피해를 주는 것 같은 느낌과 타 학생들의 시선에 대한 부담감을 표현하는 집단이 발견되기도 했다. 연구 결과를 통해 수준별 학습 분위기가 조성된 학습 환경에서의 실습조리과정의 진행과 주도적 학습을 위한 추가 교육과정의 개발은 보다 효과적인 동료학습을 위한 추가적인 조건임을 발견하였다.

고등학교 1학년 교과서에 나타난 문화소재 분석과 지도방안 (An analysis and teaching of cultural contents in the first-grade High School English textbooks)

  • In the EFL context, Korean students don't have enough opportunities to directly experience the target culture, prompting the need to offer some well-organized culture education in class. The goals of this study are to analyze how many cultural contents are reflected in High School English textbooks and to suggest an implication for cultural learning. These textbooks were carefully examined, focusing on the cultural contents, by four categories: 'cultural skill section', 'cultural patterns', 'related language skills', and 'target countries'. The results of the analysis were like the following: First, although many of the textbooks are dealing with the culture skill sections, their contents were still wanting consistency and were small in quantity. Second, as for the cultural patterns, the pages dealing with behavioral culture were 43%, spiritual culture, 35.7%, material culture, 21.3%. Third, as for the related language skills, the cultural contents in the textbooks were organized in the order of listening, reading, speaking, writing, and cultural skill sections. Since it is impossible to separate language skills from culture, we suggest that the aspects of target culture should be incorporated in various forms into the learning situations. Fourth, as for the issue of target countries, the contents about the general or whole English culture were insufficient. So we suggest that English textbooks should play an essential role in providing students with various cultural information about various English speaking countries.

유아기 자녀의 교육에 대한 어머니 신념 척도 개발 (Development of a maternal beliefs scale on preschool children's education)

  • This study has a purpose of developing a scale to evaluate maternal beliefs on preschool children's education. The subjects were 307 mothers of preschool children in Gwang-ju. The methods for data analyses included a factor analysis for construct validity, Pearson correlations between beliefs and learning-related activities for construct validity, and Cronbach's a for reliability. 4 factors were found, through literature review, in parental beliefs: passive learning, active learning, instruction, and expectation for academic-related skills acquisition. Factor analysis revealed that the 4-factor solution is the best fit. Correlations between beliefs and learning-related activities were statistically significant. Cronbach's a ranged from .65 to .87 for 4 sub-scales. It was concluded that the maternal beliefs scale is acceptable for use.

아동의 수학 창의적 문제해결력과 관련이 있는 인지전략 유형 분석 (Types of Cognitive Strategies Related to Children's Creative Problem Solving Skills in Mathematics)

  • Creative problem solving skills in mathematics were measured by fluency, flexibility, and originality; cognitive strategies were measured by rehearsal, elaboration, organization, planning, monitoring, and regulating. The Creative Problem Solving Test in Mathematics developed at the Korea Educational Development Institute(Kim et al., 1997) and the Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire(Pintrich & DeGroot, 1990) were administered to 84 subjects in grade 5(45 girls, 39 boys). Data were analyzed by Pearson's correlation, multiple regression analysis, and canonical correlation analysis. Results indicated that positive regulating predicted total score and fluency, flexibility, and originality scores of creative problem solving skills. Elaboration, rehearsal, organization, regulating, monitoring, and planning positively contributed to the fluency and flexibility scores of creative problem solving skills.
