  • In this paper, we introduce a reinforcement learning-based algorithm for personalized tourist path recommendations. The algorithm employs a reinforcement learning agent to explore tourist regions and identify optimal paths that are expected to enhance tourism experiences. The concept of tourism experience is defined through points of interest (POI) located along tourist paths within the tourist area. These metrics are quantified through aggregated evaluation scores derived from reviews submitted by past visitors. In the experimental setup, the foundational learning model used to find tour paths is the Deep Q-Network (DQN). Despite the limited availability of historical tourist behavior data, the agent adeptly learns travel paths by incorporating preference scores of tourist POIs and spatial information of the travel area.

  • This study investigated Korean university students' perceptions of NESTs (Native English Speaking Teachers) and NNESTs (Non-native English Speaking Teachers) in TEE (Teaching English through English) courses to examine strengths and weaknesses of NESTs and NNESTs. 100 university students who had an experience in taking TEE courses with both NESTs and NNESTs answered the questionnaire in which they were asked to answer questions of general area, language skills, affective areas, and teaching behaviors. 20 students out of them were also interviewed to consolidate the data. The results revealed that except for speaking ability, students did not express a strong preference for NESTs and they did have a preference in learning some specific skills. In terms of affective areas, students had a preference for NNESTs. In addition, there were differences in teaching behaviors of NESTs and NNESTs. These findings have valuable implications for NNESTs to improve their speaking proficiency: analyzing and participating in discourses, and monitoring teaching practice through videotaping.

  • Along with developments of information and communication technologies, internet has spread not only all over the society, but also our everyday life deeply. Also requirements for e-learning using internet in the educational aspect have a great influence on the changes of school educations. The benefits of e-learning are many, including cost-effectiveness, enhanced responsiveness to change, consistency, and timely contents. Therefore, the e-learning has been introduced to the universities. However, the e-learning is operated inefficiently because of introduction to the university with no definite idea about effects of education and economy in the university. Therefore, in this paper we analysed the category of e-learning based the curriculum operation forms in the university, surveyed tests about students preference and the studied what is desirable e-learning operation forms.

  • Relationships between students' perception of psychological distance with online professors and their academic learning achievement and their intention to continue online learning were examined. The courses selected for this study are two online courses: 1) 'English Grammar' and 2) 'TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication) Preparation' offered by a campus-based, medium-sized university. This study employed a mixed-methods approach by conducting a survey as well as one-on-one interviews with students. Students who feel psychologically distant with the online professors show significantly lower degree of perceived learning achievement, and higher tendency not to take online courses any more. All the three scales measuring the psychological distance -mutual awareness, connectedness, and availability- with professors turned out to be significantly related with students' perceived learning achievement. According to the result of the interview data analysis, the student interviewees unanimously said that the university should limit the number of online courses that students can register in a semester to one or two courses. Most students regard low interactivity of online learning as inevitable phenomenon. There is a statistically significant difference in perceived learning achievement between the online preferred group and the offline preferred group. Also, there is a significant difference in connectedness and availability and no significant difference in the degree of mutual awareness between the online and the offline preferred group.

  • In order to evaluate the usefulness of metaverse learning from the learner's point of view, this study 1) evaluated whether the expectancy-value of the class was satisfied before and after the learner used the metaverse learning platform and 2) verified factors affecting metaverse learning satisfaction with regard to the self-efficacy and expectancy-value of learners. Expectancy-value was evaluated by the learning effect, communication, class involvement, and learning attitude, whereas self-efficacy was evaluated by preference for task difficulty, self-regulation efficacy, and self-confidence. As a result of a study targeting 70 college students who applied for a few courses using the metaverse platform at a university in the northeastern part of Seoul, learners were found to have high expectations and values for learning before using the metaverse platform, but both were not statistically satisfied after use. In addition, the higher the self-efficacy of the learner, the higher the satisfaction with the metaverse learning, and statistically significant results were found in the task-difficulty preference and self-regulatory efficacy among the sub-factors of self-efficacy. There is a negative causal relationship between expectancy-value factors and satisfaction with metaverse learning. This study implies that it is a learner-centered evaluation of metaverse learning, revealing the expectancy-value effect and factors influencing the satisfaction with metaverse learning.

  • This study is to investigate the problem solving styles according to the left /right brain preference among earth science gifted students. We took the R/LCT and the test of BPI to investigate the brain preference of earth science gifted students (N=16), and took S-CPST to investigate the problem solving styles on them. In the R/LCT, the earth science gifted students were classified into 3 groups (8 left-brain preference students, 7 right-brain preference students, 1 middle-brain preference student). In the BPI, 8 students had the appearance of left-brain preference, whereas 8 students had the appearance of right-brain preference. According to the result of S-CPST, first the left brain preference students tended to resolve a problem into simple components, then they put together each simple component. They prefer to solve a problem using numbers and mathematical signs logically, but they were afraid of giving trouble to describe own idea with pictures. Whereas the right brain preference students solved a problem with 3 steps. First, they saw an overall form of problem. Second, they tried to analyze each simple component of it, and then, made up all in one. Also, the right brain preference students observed the intuitive pattern of problem first, and then suggested the various problem solving methods later, and they took a solving plan using a picture in detail. In sum, earth science gifted students are unequal in problem solving styles according to the left/right brain preference. Thus, a teaching-learning method needs to be developed based on left/right brain preference for more effective gifted education.
