Lining systems are used for two purpose in landfills : as covers to minimize leachate generation and surface water contamination by providing a barrier from precipitation and other percolating waters, and as containment liners to contain leachate and minimize its downward migration into underlying groundwater. So identifying leaks in landfill liners is an essential part of waste management. There are many leakage detection systems to monitor and seek leakage location, such as two electrode method, electrode grid method, diffusion hoses, capacitance sensors and tracers sensing cables. However, most of them can be applied in the new landfill construction sites because sensors must be installed prior to work. This paper presents a new type of leakage detection system, so called fence type electrode arrangement system, to monitor leakage and to seek leakage location in working landfill as well as new landfill. This system is based on the measurement of an electrical current flowing through leakage point. Series of laboratory tests are performed to investigate an availability of this system and this paper present some of these results.
In neurosurgical cases, problems related to wound healing can vary from simple wound dehiscence to multilayer defects. This study demonstrates an effective method to prevent persistent cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leakage using reinforcing acellular dermal matrix in neurosurgical patients with wound dehiscence. A 52-year-old woman was admitted for management of recurrent glioblastoma. After tumor removal surgery, the patient experienced sustained CSF leakage from the wound despite reparative attempts. The plastic surgery team performed wound repair procedure after remnant tumor removal by the neurosurgery team. Acellular dermal matrix was applied over the mesh plate to prevent CSF leakage and the postoperative status of the patient was evaluated. No sign of CSF leakage was found in the immediate postoperative period. After 3 years, there were no complications including CSF leakage, wound dehiscence, and infection. We hereby propose this method as a feasible therapeutic alternative for preventing CSF leakage in patients experiencing wound problem after neurosurgical procedures.
In case that in-leakage through the valve disk occurs, a numerical study is performed to estimate on thermal stratification phenomenon in the Safety Injection piping connected with the Reactor Coolant System piping of Nuclear Power Plant. As the leakage flow rate increases, the temperature difference between top and bottom of horizontal piping has the inflection point. In the connection point of valve and piping, the maximum temperature difference between top and bottom was 185K and occurred in the condition of 10 times of standard leakage flow rate. In the connection point of elbow and horizontal piping, the maximum temperature difference was 145K and occurred in the condition of 15 times of standard leakage flow rate. In the vertical piping of Safety Injection piping, the near of connection point between elbow and vertical piping showed the outstanding thermal stratification phenomenon in comparison with another region because of turbulent penetration from Reactor Coolant System piping. In order to prevent damage of piping due to the thermal stratification when in-leakage through the valve disk occurs, the connection points between valve and piping, and the connection points between elbow and piping need to be inspected continually.
In the rapidly changing business environment, knowledge has been recognized as a core asset for sustaining an organization's competitive advantage. In addition, knowledge sharing is one of the key elements of knowledge management, emphasizing external knowledge sharing beyond initial internal knowledge sharing. However, while knowledge management research emphasizes knowledge sharing, which is a positive aspect, research on preventing knowledge leakage that can have negative consequences is relatively lacking. Companies have tried to minimize the negative effects of knowledge management but many knowledge leakage accidents are still occurring. Therefore, this study aims to examine the effects of external factors based on deterrence theory and internal factors based on self-determination theory on knowledge leakage intention focusing on tacit knowledge. The results of the empirical analysis of 100 data sets collected through a scenario-based survey show that certainty of sanctions, social disapproval, and competence are found to have a significant effect on reducing tacit knowledge leakage intention. Furthermore, informal sanctions have a greater impact on tacit knowledge leakage intention than formal sanctions and external factors have a greater effect on tacit knowledge leakage intention than internal factors.
CCS (Carbon Capture and Storage) is considered as the most promising interim solution to deal with the greenhouse gas such as $CO_2$ responsible for global warming. Even though carefully chosen geologic formations are known to contain stored gas for a long time period, there are potential risks of leakage. Up to now, applicable risk assessment procedures for the leakage of $CO_2$ are not available. This study presents a basis for risk analysis applicable to a complex geologic storage system. It starts with the classification of potential leakage pathways. Receptors and the leakage effect on them are identified and quantified. Then, a fault tree is constructed, which yields the minimum cut set (i.e., the most vulnerable leakage pathway) and quantifies the probability of the leakage risk through the cut set. The methodology will provide a tool for risk assessment in a CCS project. The outcomes of the assessment will not only ensure the safety of the CCS system but also offer a reliable and efficient monitoring plan.
The aim of this in vitro study was to investigate the coronal leakage of obligate anaerobes into root canals obturated with two different techniques. 48 extracted human teeth with straight, single root canals were prepared with crown-down technique with Profile under copious irrigation until the master apical file was size 40. The teeth were divided randomly into experimental groups (40 teeth) and control groups (8 teeth). In the experimental groups, 20 teeth were obturated with lateral condensation and other 20 teeth were obturated with continuous wave technique with System B. Coronal leakage of two root canal filing technique was evaluated using anaerobic bacterial leakage model with Fusobacterium nucleatum(ATCC 25586) for 60 days. The results were as follows 1. The incidence of bacterial leakage of experimental groups was 65% in group 1 (lateral condensation) and 60% in group 2 (continuous wave technique with System B). This difference was not statistically significant (P>0.05). 2. There was no statistically significant difference(P>0.05) in leakage score between group 1 (lateral condensation) and group2 (continuous wave technique with System B).
This paper describes an effect of a single- and a quadruple-lightning impulse currents on electrical characteristics of ZnO blocks, and an expert system to diagnose arrestor deterioration. To deduce the parameters needed for diagnosing arrester deterioration, an accelerate deterioration teat is carried out. In the experiment, leakage current components are measured. Also, wave height distribution of the leakage current according to the progress of arrester deterioration is analyzed. From the experimental results, the wave height distribution of the leakage current showed conspicuous difference even in an immaterial leakage current increase. Therefore, the use of wave height distribution of the leakage current in deterioration diagnostic technique makes more accurate diagnosis than the conventional method by using only a leakage currant value. Finally, the expert system based on the experimental results is developed and the system can diagnose arrestor deterioration by measuring the leakage current and its wade height distribution.
Arresters are deteriorated by overvoltages or impulse currents, and the resistive leakage current of arresters increases as the deterioration of the arrester progresses, showing an increase in the 3$^{rd}$ harmonic component of the leakage current. In this reason, arrester diagnostic techniques based on the 3$^{rd}$ harmonic leakage current as a reference parameter of deterioration are widely used. The technique, however, includes an error due to the harmonics of power system voltage. Therefore, the influence of the harmonics on arrester diagnostics should be considered. In this paper, we designed a PSpice ZnO arrester model to simulate the influence of the voltage harmonics described above. A pure sinusoidal voltage and its the 3r harmonic voltage were applied to the model, and the leakage current components were analyzed. From the simulation results, it is confirmed that the peak value of resistive leakage current depends not only on the phase of the 3$^{rd}$ harmonic voltage but also on the magnitude of it. Consequently, the errors caused 1)y the harmonic voltage could be minimized by correcting the magnitude of leakage current upon analyzing the harmonics.cs.
To analyze the effectiveness of the resistive leakage current monitoring as a technology preventing electrical accidents, in this paper, we have estimated the phase of the body impedance by using the body impedance model and the body impedance data from IEC. We also have analyzed the phase of the electric body current in the case of 60Hz/220V. From these results, we concluded that deliberate researches about the phase of the electrical body current and related regulations must be carried out before the resistive leakage current monitoring unit is used to protect electric shock. And we concluded that the resistive leakage current monitoring unit can be utilized to prevent electrical fires caused by electric leakage current without unwanted circuit break due to capacitive leakage current flowing from line filter capacitors to the earth.
