This study was to determine the effect of garment closures and layering systems on insulation, using a thermal movable manikin in cold weather conditions. The insulation values of ensembles with opened and closed features were measured, and those of four different layered clothing ensembles were tested while standing and while walking. Our research indicated that when there was an opening involved in design the system, insulation decreased; even a zip-out lining in the armpit affected little. If a light weight jacket and pants are put on over a fleece shirt and pants instead polyester underwear, the amount of insulation increase was 0.43 clo.
This paper presents experimental optimization of process parameters for a newly developed SFF(Solid Freeform Fabrication) system. Two critical process parameters, layering thickness and curing period, which have a large effect on the quality of the product, are optimized through experiments. Specimens are produced using layering thicknesses of 60, 80, 100, 120, 140, and $160\;{\mu}m$ and curing periods of 0, 10, 20, and 30 minutes under the same processing conditions, i.e., build-room temperature, feed-room temperature, roller speed, laser power, scan speed, and scan spacing. The specimens are tested to compare and analyze performance indices such as thickness accuracy, flatness, stress-strain characteristics, and porosity. The experimental result indicates that layering thickness of $80{\sim}100\;{\mu}m$ and curing period of $20{\sim}30$ minutes are recommended for the developed industrial SFF system.
Direct Laser Melting is a prototyping process whereby a 3-D part is built layer wise by melting the metal powder with laser scanning. This process is strongly influenced by the shielding gas and the laser operating parameters such as laser power, scan rate, layering thickness, and rescanning. The shielding gas is especially important in affecting the microstructure and mechanical properties. In the current study, fabrication experiments were conducted in order to analyze the effect of shielding gas on the forming characteristics of direct laser melting. Cylindrical parts were produced from a Fe-Ni-Cr powder with a 200W fiber laser. Surface quality, porosity and hardness as a function of the layering thickness and shield gas were evaluated. By decreasing the layering thickness, the surface quality improved and porosity decreased. The selection of which shield gas, Ar or $N_2$, to obtain better surface quality, lower porosity, and higher hardness was examined. The formability and mechanical properties with a $N_2$ atmosphere are better than those parts formed under an Ar atmosphere.
PURPOSE. This study aimed to evaluate the fit of zirconia ceramics before and after veneering, using 3 different veneering processes (layering, press-over, and CAD-on techniques). MATERIALS AND METHODS. Thirty standardized zirconia CAD/CAM frameworks were constructed and divided into three groups of 10 each. The first group was veneered using the traditional layering technique. Press-over and CAD-on techniques were used to veneer second and third groups. The marginal gap of specimens was measured before and after veneering process at 18 sites on the master die using a digital microscope. Paired t-test was used to evaluate mean marginal gap changes. One-way ANOVA and post hoc tests were also employed for comparison among 3 groups (${\alpha}$=.05). RESULTS. Marginal gap of 3 groups was increased after porcelain veneering. The mean marginal gap values after veneering in the layering group ($63.06{\mu}m$) was higher than press-over ($50.64{\mu}m$) and CAD-on ($51.50{\mu}m$) veneered groups (P<.001). CONCLUSION. Three veneering methods altered the marginal fit of zirconia copings. Conventional layering technique increased the marginal gap of zirconia framework more than pressing and CADon techniques. All ceramic crowns made through three different veneering methods revealed clinically acceptable marginal fit.
This study investigated the relationship of clothing microclimate and physiological responses in order to examine the layering effects on the clothing microclimate as an index to predict clothing thermal insulation ($I_{cl}$). Experiments were conducted in a $15^{\circ}C$ environment on six physically active males. Increased clothing layers resulted in higher mean temperature inside the clothing ($\bar{T}_{cl}$) and $I_{cl}$. The $I_{cl}$ had a high correlation with: $\bar{T}_{cl}$ (r = 0.556), the difference between the innermost surface temperature and the outermost surface temperature at the chest (DST) (r = 0.549) and the temperature inside clothing at the abdomen (r = 0.478). $\bar{T}_{cl}$ had the highest correlation with the temperature inside clothing at the abdomen (r = 0.889). $\bar{T}_{cl}$ also had the highest correlation with $\bar{T}_{sk}$ (r = 0.860). The results showed that the relationship between $I_{cl}$ and $\bar{T}_{cl}$ was linear (p < .01). Thermal comfort had a negative correlation with $\bar{T}_{cl-thigh}$ (r=-0.411) and $\bar{T}_{cl}$ (r = -0.323) (p < .01.)
Purpose: This study aimed to observe the effect of laminate veneer on patient's teeth based on the manufacturing of laminate veneer restorations, which are produced by fabricating a ceramic cast body using IPS Empress, a pressure casting method and then forming the veneer by layering. Subsequently, we assessed the potential of its clinical application. Methods: This study discusses and preserves various treatment plans, such as diagnostic wax-up and treatment room diagnosis, for patients who visit the hospital to improve the appearance of teeth due to diastema of maxillary teeth, inexperienced resin filling, lack of esthetics, and external teeth. A ceramic cast body is constructed using IPS Empress, which is an effective and aesthetic restoration pressure casting method to restore the veneer with a laminate made by layering. Results: Compared with the preoperative state, the frontal view of the patient after the final restoration showed the formation of a natural smile line; the space between the central and lateral incisors was filled in synchronously with the adjacent teeth. In addition, the emergence profile is maintained by reducing the over-contour as much as possible. Conclusion: The patient's quality of life is improved by providing them with a satisfactory natural smile.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the marginal adaptation of Class V resin restorations by the filling techniques. The cavities were filled with Heliosit$^{(R)}$ light curing composite resin system in accordance with the following three filling techniques - bulk-pack placement technique, apical to occlusal layering placement technique, and buccolingual layering placement technique. And the interface between the restoration and the tooth structure was observed with scanning electron microscope. The following results were obtained. 1. Marginal adaptation of enamel showed excellent irrespective of the filling techniques. 2. Marginal leakage of dentin was observed irrespective of the filling techniques. 3. No difference of marginal adaptation according to the filling techniques was observed in light curing composite resin.
PURPOSE. To determine whether the fracture strengths and failure types differed between metal and zirconia frameworks veneered with pressable or layering ceramics. MATERIALS AND METHODS. A phantom molar tooth was prepared and duplicated in 40 cobalt-chromium abutments. Twenty metal (IPS d.SIGN 15, Ivoclar, Vivadent, Schaan, Liechtenstein) and 20 zirconia (IPS e.max ZirCAD, Ivoclar) frameworks were fabricated on the abutments. Each framework group was randomly divided into 2 subgroups according to the veneering material: pressable and layering ceramics (n=10). Forty molar crowns were fabricated, cemented onto the corresponding abutments and then thermocycled ($5-55^{\circ}C$, 10,000 cycles). A load was applied in a universal testing machine until a fracture occurred on the crowns. In addition, failure types were examined using a stereomicroscope. Fracture load data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA and Tukey HSD post-hoc tests at a significance level of 0.05. RESULTS. The highest strength value was seen in metal-pressable (MP) group, whereas zirconia-pressable (ZP) group exhibited the lowest one. Moreover, group MP showed significantly higher fracture loads than group ZP (P=.015) and zirconia-layering (ZL) (P=.038) group. No significant difference in fracture strength was detected between groups MP and ML, and groups ZP and ZL (P>.05). Predominant fracture types were cohesive for metal groups and adhesive for zirconia groups. CONCLUSION. Fracture strength of a restoration with a metal or a zirconia framework was independent of the veneering techniques. However, the pressing technique over metal frameworks resisted significantly higher fracture loads than zirconia frameworks.
