The purpose of this study was to study accumlated residual soils which may be one of the causes for yellowing of worn cloths. Wear and wash tests of white cotton undershirts were repeated at 30 households sellected at random over a period of 60 days. Laundry conditions were similar to home laundry habits in a fact-finding survey, using a powdery heavy duty detergent containing no enzymes or enzymes. The subjects in this study were survey of laundry actual condition, the undershirts from prior to and after the final washing was measured residual soils, $L^*a^*b^*$ value and mellowness index of CIE system. D3ta were analysed by simple correlation analysis of wear and wash cycle, residual soils, whiteness The results obtained were summarized as follows: 1. Using pattern of washing machine, Presoaking was no singinificant differnece in general characteristics of survey respondent. Laundry frequency was significant difference in income level, occupation of housewives whether or not. Use of cold and hot water was significant difference in residence shape. 2. The analyzed consequences of recognition and actual behavior in connection with laundry were found variables each other to have independence or not. 3. Amount of residual sebum soils is using non-enzyme detergent were much more than in using enzyme detergent, increased linearly with increase of the number of wear and wash cycles. 4. Residual protein soils with increase of the number wear and wash cycles less than in laundering more easy than sebum soils. Since accumulated residual sebum soils were much more than residual protein soils. 5. Increase of residual soils was raised mellowness index and diminshed whiteness. yellowness index of residual sebum soils was higher than protein soils. If increase of whiteness will be incresed, amount of residual sebum soils will be decreased sebum soils. Because amount of residual sebum soils much more than protein soils, yellowness index of residual sebum soils was more higher than that of protein soils.
The exposure to house dust mites is closely connected with allergic diseases such as atopic dermatitis, allergic rhinitis and asthma. Control of house dust mite populations has been principally achieved by using chemical insecticides. But the risk to human health would be a potential problem. Moreover, house dust mite remain as allergens even after death. Therefore, repelling the house dust mites is more effective method than killing them. The use of plant-derived repellents has been considered as a promising alternative to chemical repellents. Eucalyptus oils are regarded as safe compounds, there have been attempts to commercialize and market the insecticides/repellent products containing Eucalyptus oil as such or based upon them. For that reason, we experimented repellent activity against these mites using laundry detergent with Eucalyptus oil in this experiment. House dust mites (Dermatophagoides farinae and Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus) were exposed at different concentrations (4, 8, 16, $32{\mu}L/mL$) in fabric treated laundry detergent with Eucalyptus oil for 24 hours. The repellent effects (%) of laundry detergent with Eucalyptus oil exposed at 4, 8, 16, and $32{\mu}L/mL$ were 48.16%, 74.62%, 52.67%, and 44.47%, respectively. These results suggest that laundry detergent with Eucalyptus oil have potential effect to repel the house dust mites.
To investigate the cognition of labeling system and its problems, problems in laundry, and consumer's dissatisfaction and to decrease problems in management of clothing products, total 476 subjects were surveyed in Taejon. The major results were as follows ; 1. The cognition of labeling system was understood by 93.1% of respondents, and 72.9% of them prefer to recognized labeling by figures and letters than by either of them. Most of respondents got the knowledge of labeling system from school. The most frequently experienced mislabeling was the label for management. 2. In cleaning, 60.4% of respondents made their decisions of the laundry method after seeing labeling system. When the label recommanded either of hand washing or dry cleaning, they usually laundered with hand washing after a few times of dry cleaning. The first consideration factor for laundry was fiber composition of textiles. 3. About 70% of respondents understood ironing, laundry, and drying mark on labeling system, and 53.8% understood fiber composition and bleaching. 4. More than 90% of respondents experienced dissatisfaction in handling clothing products. The reason of dissatisfaction was deformation and decoloring after laundry. Most of respondents experienced change of tactile sensation, too.
The aim of this study is to investigate the housework space viewed from housewives and husband in dual-earner families. For this study, depth-interview method were used to collects the data. The depth-interview were conducted on the eight heusewives and two husbands in dual-earner families in Jinju and Gwangju in April 2005. The narratives were then analyzed to discover the demands of the kitchen and laundry room. The major results were as follows: 1) Dual-earner families want the kitchen design is they can share housework with their spouses, such as kitchen facing the front side of the floor plan and island counter. In addition, they want spacious, adjustable(flexible), visible storage to enable the housewives to work with their spouse efficiently. Space for Kimchi refrigerator should be considered in the kitchen. 2) They want the noise-free laundry because the interviewers did their laundry work in the night time. Also, they want a multi-purpose laundry mm where machine washing, hand washing, drying and ironing can be done. In addition, for hand-washing wives and husbands, specific space and facilities where they can hand washing on stand posture were needed.

The purpose of this study was to assess the sustainability of laundry practices among Korean households in comparison with European households. A total of 329 responses were collected through an online survey and analyzed using SPSS. Detergent dosing, use of fabric softener, prewashing, rinsing, washing programs, and washing temperatures of Korean households were not optimal for sustainability. Only 11.2% of respondents followed dosage instructions while the majority based on load size. Use of fabric enhancer, prewashing, and rinsing were frequent. Cotton 40℃ was the most frequently used program (81.5%) while eco and cold wash programs were among the least (1.5%). In terms of laundry sorting, load size, drying, and ironing, more sustainable actions were reported. Laundry was often sorted by color, machines were commonly filled, and clothes tended to be air-dried and not excessively ironed. Gender was the primary socio-demographic factor denoting sustainable habits, with males being more attentive to instructions and care labels than females. European households, however, were more sustainable in all areas except for frequent ironing, and education level and employment status were significant factors affecting sustainable practices.
This study was aimed to investigate the differences in satisfaction and repurchase intention of leggings focused on women who have ever worn leggings. The participants were women in their 10s-50s who were residing in Busan and Gyeongnam, Korea. The survey was taken between July 3rd and 28th, 2021. A total of 313 questionnaires were completed and used in the statistical analysis. The data were analyzed with 𝛘2-test, t-test, ANOVA, etc. using the SPSS. The leggings wearing by demographic characteristics were significantly different for age, monthly income, and occupation. The factors related to leggings postpurchase satisfaction were identified as reshaping body type and utilization, wearing sensation and functionality, design and price, colorfastness to laundry, and quality. As a result of analyzing the difference for leggings postpurchase satisfaction by demographic characteristics, colorfastness to laundry, and quality were significantly different by marital status, reshaping body type and utilization, design and price, and colorfastness to laundry, and quality were significantly different by age. All postpurchase satisfaction factors were significantly different by monthly income. Design and price, colorfastness to laundry, and quality were significantly different by occupation. The variables influencing the level of leggings satisfaction were wearing sensation and functionality, followed by design and price, reshaping body type and utilization, and colorfastness to laundry and quality. The repurchase intention of leggings was significantly different by age and monthly income. The variables influencing repurchase intention of leggings were design and price, followed by reshaping body type and utilization.

Assessing soil removal is of interest to the washing machine industry because of government-mandated energy savings and changes in detergent formulation and consumer laundry practices. We designed this study to examine the laundry process from a holistic perspective by integrating factors perceived to be of importance. Our purpose was to assess the impact of selected variables (fabric and soil type, wash temperature and time. detergent amount, and degree of agitation) on soil removal using accelerated laundry conditions. We used the Taguchi method to develop the research design and ANOVA to analyze the data. Although soil removal was affected by fabric type, soil type, type and amount of detergent, degree of agitation, wash time and temperature, and water hardness and volume, wash temperature was the most significant variable.
Background: Laundry workers are known to be exposed to organic solvents in various works including dry cleaning. Long-term exposure to organic solvents may cause adverse health effects among laundry workers. Objectives: To investigate the association between exposure to organic solvents and symptom of headache or eyestrain among laundry workers. Methods: The subjects were total 267 laundry workers who participated in the 6th Korean Working Conditions Survey (KWCS). Responses to exposure to 'inhalation of vapor from organic solvent' was categorized into two (non-exposed: rarely or absolutely not exposed during working hours; exposed: ≥1/4 working hours) or three (non-exposed; low exposure: 1/4 of the working hours; high exposure: ≥1/2 working hours) groups. Logistic regression analysis was performed to evaluate the association between exposure to organic solvents and symptom of headache or eyestrain in the last 12 months among laundry workers. Odds ratios (ORs) and the 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated for experience of the symptom of headache or eyestrain with adjustment for age, sex, education, workplace size (by the number of workers), working hours per week, and current working period (year). Results: The proportions of exposure groups, i.e., non-exposed, low exposure, and high exposure, were 80.4%, 11.1%, and 8.5%, respectively. The proportion of those who had symptom of headache or eyestrain in the last 12 months was 18.7%. There was a significant association between exposure to organic solvents and experience of headache or eyestrain (OR=3.2, 95% CI=1.4~7.4). And, the proportion of those who experienced symptom of headache or eyestrain tended to increase significantly as the level of exposure to organic solvents increased (Ptrend=0.002). Conclusions: Our results suggest that exposure to organic solvents are associated with symptom of headache or eystrain among laundry workers in Korea. However, further studies with more relevant design is needed to replicate the association.
This study analyzes the explosion hazard of dry cleaning solvent recovery machine in laundry shop in two aspects, i.e. combustible and ignition source, and determines the explosive conditions of this machine by conducting mockup explosion tests repeatedly, varying conditions and using real dry cleaning solvent recovery machines. As to combustibles, two kinds of combustibles used widely in Korea have been selected and tested. The flash points, LEL's, and saturation vapor pressures of those combustibles have been measured, and their explosion specific curves have been drawn, based on the results of the measurements, so that the explosion risks of those materials may be determined, depending on the temperatures. Potential voltages generated from materials for laundry and foreign materials of metals have been assumed to be the ignition sources in this application, and their potential voltages have been measured, depending on temperature, humidity, and antistatic agent, by using real materials for laundry and a potential voltage measuring device. Tests have been conducted, varying the quantities, concentrations, and operating temperatures of materials for laundry. As a result, explosions have not been generated with potential voltages of materials for laundry, but explosions have been observed when applying artificial spark energy of 2.0 mJ.

In this paper, we proposes the design of laundry system for low power and smart management. The low power system configures the network with the RF communication module that turn on/off periodically, power consumption less than operating the module all the time without it toggles. The smart management is RFID Laundry Management System (LMS), in order to provide high services, low operation costs and better monitoring. The proposed system consists of RFID tag, wireless RFID hanger and MFC software. To compare with other existing RFID system, our system was developed as a web application. Therefore, customer can check their cloth status through web page or smartphone devices. RFID reader was designed on hanger to make our system enables reliable running effectively. Some results on the performance of an implementation are presented.
