  • The vibration analysis of an axially moving membrane are investigated when the membrane has the two sets of in-plane boundary conditions, which are free and fixed constraints in the lateral direction. Since the in-plane stiffness is much higher than the out-of-plane stiffness, it is assumed during deriving the equations of motion that the in-plane motion is in a steady state. Under this assumption. the equation of out-of\ulcornerplane motion is derived, which is a linear partial differential equation influenced by the in-plane stress distributions. After discretizing the equation by using the Galerkin method, the natural frequencies and mode shapes are computed. In particular, we put a focus on analyzing the effects of the in-plane boundary conditions on the natural frequencies and mode shapes of the moving membrane.

  • The human knee joint is the intermediate joint of the lower limb that is the largest and most complex joint in the body. Understanding of joint-articulating surface motion is essential for the joint wear, stability, mobility, degeneration, determination of proper diagnosis and so on. However, many studies analyzed the passive motion of the lower limb because of the skin marker artefact and some studies described medial and lateral condyle of a femur as a simple sphere due to the complexity of geometry. Thus, in this paper, we constructed a three-dimensional geometric model of the human knee from the geometry of its anatomical structures using non-uniform B-spline surface fitting as a study for the kinematic analysis of more realistic human knee model. In addition, we developed and verified 6-DOF contact model of the human knee joint using $C^2$ continuous surface of the inferior region of a femur, considering the relative motion of shank to thigh during locomotion.

  • In this study a structure with viscoelastic and viscous dampers with identical damping coefficient subjected to stationary seismic and wind load were analyzed in time and frequency-domain to compare motion control capability of viscous and viscoelastic dampers. The dampers were placed based on story drift and acceleration obtained from RMS responses. According to the analysis results, the motion control capability of viscous dampers turned out to be superior to that of the viscoelastic dampers for the case of seismic load. On the contrary, in case of wind load, the viscoelastic dampers were more effective in the mitigation of dynamic responses. However, it was also found that the differences were in a narrow margin.

  • In this paper the dynamic effects due to the free water motions in tanks upon the lateral motion of a floating body in regular waves are calculated, in order to obtain the relationship between a motion of a floating body and that of the free water in tanks. Under the assumption that the fluid is ideal and motion amplitudes are small, velocity potential of the fluid in tanks is calculated by the source distribution method and the hydrodynamic forces and moments are calculated by the integration of fluid pressures over the tank surface. Hydrodynamic effects of the fluid on the floating body are expressed in terms of added mass and coupling coefficient obtained from the integration. Computations are carried out for ship with seven wide center tanks and comparisons between the liquid cargo loading case and the rigid cargo loading case are shown.

  • The present paper deals with the influence of the inclination of cables' system on the decrease of the lateral-torsional motion because of dynamic loadings. For this goal, a mathematical model is proposed. A 3-D analysis is performed for the solution of the bridge model. The theoretical formulation is based on a continuum approach, which has been widely used in the literature to analyze such bridges. The resulting uncoupled equations of motion are solved using the Laplace Transformation, while the case of the coupled motion is solved through the use of the potential energy. Finally, characteristic examples are presented and useful results are obtained.

  • The development of railway vehicle and bogie involves the proper selection of design parameters not only to achieve high speed of the train but also to reduce the vibration. In this study, an analytical model of a high speed freight car is developed to find the critical speed. The high speed freight car can generate the snake motion of the lateral, rolling and yawing motion of the car body and the bogie. The numerical analysis for the equation motions with 17 degrees of freedom showed the running stability and the critical speed due to the snake motion. Also the vibration modes of the high speed freight car was calculated using ADAMS RAIL software, which showed that the critical speed have the yawing modes of the car body and the bogie.

  • This study presents velocities of bedload sediment transport in both longitudinal and lateral directions and applied in considering morphological change of straight open channel. The velocities of particle motion have obtained by considering the forces balance acting on particles on the bed between the drag, tangential component of the immersed weight of the particle, and Coulomb's resistive forces. Numerical profiles of particle motion velocities reveals good agreement in comparison between this study and Kovacs and Parker (1994). The evaluated velocities components of particle transport are get used to estimate bedload transport rate in considering morphological change of straight open channel. For the application, numerical solution is applied to laboratory experiment which shows very close solution profiles between this study and observed data of a self-formed straight channel.

  • Background: Increased foot pronation causes biomedchanical changes at the lower limbs, which may result in musculoskeletal injuries at the proximal joints. Pronation rear-foot leads to plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendonitis, and posterior tibial tendonitis pathologically. According to the recent meta-analysis, They showed that therapeutic adhesive taping is more effective than foot orthoses and motion control footwear, low-Dye (LD) taping has become the most popular method used by physiotherapists. Objects: The purpose of this study was to determine the immediate effects of LD taping results in different ankle motion and ground reaction force (GRF) as before and after applied LD taping on pronated rear-foot during gait. Methods: Twenty-four participants were recruited for this study. The gait data were recorded using an 8-camera motion capture system and two force platforms. At first, the experiments were carried out that participants walked barefoot without LD taping. And then they walked both feet was applied LD taping. Results: The ankle inversion minimum was significantly greater after LD taping than before LD taping (p=.04); however, in the GRF, there were no significant differences in the inversion maximum or total motion of the stance phase (p=.33, p=.07), or in the vertical (p=.33), posterior (p=.22), and lateral (p=.14) peak forces. Conclusion: The application of taping to pronation rear-foot assists in increased ankle inversion.

  • Recent studies on the moment whirl due to leakage flow in the back shroud clearance of hydro-turbine runners or centrifugal pump impellers are summarized. First, destabilizing effect of leakage flow is discussed for lateral vibrations using simplified models. Then it is extended to the case of whirling motion of an overhung rotor and the criterion for the instability is obtained. The fluid moment caused by a leakage clearance flow between a rotating disk and a stationary casing was obtained by model tests under whirling and precession motion of the disk. It is shown that the whirl moment always destabilizes the whirl motion of the overhung rotor while the precession moment destabilizes the precession only when the precession speed is less than half the rotor speed. Then vibration analyses considering both whirl and precession are made by using the hydrodynamic moments determined by the model tests. For larger overhung rotors, the whirl moment is more important and cause whirl instability at all rotor speed. On the other hand, for smaller overhung rotors, the precession moment is more important and cancels the destabilizing effect of the whirl moment.
