Angle sensors based on the principle of autocollimation, which are usually called autocollimators, can accurately measure small tilt angles of a light-reflecting flat surface. This paper describes a prototype micro-angle sensor that is based on the laser autocollimation technique. The new angle sensor is compact and consists of a laser diode as the light source and a quadrant photodiode as a position-sensing device. Because of its concise design, the microangle sensor facilitates dynamic measurements of the angular error motions of a precision stage without influencing the original dynamic properties of the stage. This is because the sensor only requires a small extra target mirror to be mounted on the stage. The sensitivity of the angle detection is independent of the focal length of the objective lens; therefore, an objective lens with a relatively short focal length is employed to reduce the size of the device. The micro-angle sensor uses a single lens for the both the laser collimation and focusing, which distinguishes it from the conventional laser autocollimation method that has separate collimate and objective lenses. The new micro-angle sensor has dimensions of $15.1\times22.0\times14.0mm$ and its resolution is better than 0.1 arc-second The optical design and performance of this micro-angle sensor were verified by experimental results.
The weld seam tracking sensor is indispensable to improve the flexibility of automatic arc welding systems. Among the position sensing methods available, a laser displacement sensor is one of the most prevailing methods. In this study, a laser displacement sensor was examined on detecting the weld seam of lap joints in sheet metal arc welding. The output signal of the laser displacement sensor may ontain severe fluctuation from the effect of arc light, spatters, fume, etc. So a variety of signal processing methods was applied to smooth the output signal of the sensor. And then the weld joint was determined by using the central difference method. It was revealed that the quadratic mean method plays an important role in detecting the weld seam during welding especially.
Recently, researches for side resistances of drilled shafts considering socket roughness have been conducted actively. In order for these researches, roughness measurement devices using laser sensor were developed by two research groups. The devices were only applied in boreholes with dry conditions. In this research, a roughness measurement devices using the laser sensor (BKS-LRPS) was developed, which could apply in wet conditions and also measure vertical offsets of drilled shafts. In addition, the application of the laser sensor to the geotechnical engineering proposed in this paper.

Wavefront coding (WFC) imaging systems can redistribute the energy of an interference laser spot on an image plane sensor by wavefront phase modulation and reduce the peak intensity, realizing laser protection while maintaining imaging functionality by leveraging algorithmic post-processing. In this paper, a spiral axicon WFC imaging system is proposed, and the performance for laser protection is investigated by constructing a laser transmission model. An Airy disk on an image plane sensor is refactored into a symmetrical hollow ring by a spiral axicon phase mask, and the maximum intensity can be reduced to lower than 1% and single-pixel power to 1.2%. The spiral axicon phase mask exhibits strong robustness to the position of the interference laser source and can effectively reduce the risk of sensor damage for an almost arbitrary lase propagation distance. Moreover, we revealed that there is a sensor hazard distance for both conventional and WFC imaging systems where the maximum single-pixel power reaches a peak value under irradiation of a power-fixed laser source. Our findings can offer guidance for the anti-laser reinforcement design of photoelectric imaging systems, thereby enhancing the adaptability of imaging systems in a complex laser environment. The laser blinding-resistant imaging system has potential applications in security monitoring, autonomous driving, and intense-laser-pulse experiments.
It is very important to track a complicate weld seam for the welding automation. Very recently, laser vision sensor becomes a useful sensing tool to find the seams. Until now, however studies of welding automation using a laser vision sensor, focused on either image processing or feature recognition from CCD camera. Even though it is possible to use a simple algorithm for tracking a simple seam, it is extremely difficult to develop a seam-tracking algorithm when the seam is more complex. To overcome these difficulties, this study introduces a simulation system to develop the seam tracking algorithm. This method was verified experimentally to reduce the time and effort to develop the seam tracking algorithm, and to implement the sensing device.
This paper introduces a novel approach that can provide the three dimensional information on the movement of a spreader by using two CCD cameras and a laser distance sensor, which enables an ALS (Automatic Landing System) to be used for yard cranes at a harbor. So far a kind of 2D Laser scanner sensor or laser distance measuring units are used as corner detectors for the geometrical matching between the spreader and a container, which provides only 2D information which is not enough for an accurate and fast ALS system required presently. In addition to this deficiency in performance, the price for the system is too high to be adopted widely for the ALS. Therefore, to overcome these defects, a novel method to acquire the three dimensional information for the movement of a spreader including skew and sway angles is proposed using two CCD cameras and a laser distance sensor. To show the efficiency of proposed algorithm, real experiments are performed to show the accuracy improvement in distance measurement by fusing the sensory information of CCD camera and laser distance sensor.

In this paper, we propose a distributed fusion estimation for sensor networks using a receding horizon strategy. Communication channels were modelled as Markov jump systems, and a posterior probability distribution for communication channel characteristics was calculated and incorporated into the filter to allow distributed fusion estimation to handle path loss observation situations automatically. To implement distributed fusion estimation, a Kalman-Consensus filter was then used to obtain the average consensus, based on the estimates of sensors randomly distributed across sensor networks. The advantages of the proposed algorithms were then verified using a large-scale sensor network example.
The sensor system to measure the distance precisely from the center of the sensor system to the obstacle is needed to recognize the surrounding environments, and the sensor system is to be calibrated thoroughly to get the range information exactly. This study covers the calibration of the active range sensor which consists of camera and laser slit emitting device, and provides the equations to get the 3D range data. This can be possible by obtaining the extrinsic parameters of laser slit emitting device through image processing the slits measured during the constant distance intervals and the intrinsic parameters from the calibration of camera. The 3D range data equation derived from the simple geometric assumptions is proved to be applicable to the general cases using the calibration parameters. Also the exact 3D range data were obtained to the object from the real experiment.
A sensor fusion scheme for mobile robot environment recognition that incorporates range data and contour data is proposed. Ultrasonic sensor provides coarse spatial description but guarantees open space with no obstacle within sonic cone with relatively high belief. Laser structured light system provides detailed contour description of environment but prone to light noise and is easily affected by surface reflectivity. Overall fusion process is composed of two stages: Noise elimination and belief updates. Dempster Shafer´s evidential reasoning is applied at each stage. Open space estimation from sonar range measurements brings elimination of noisy lines from laser sensor. Comparing actual sonar data to the simulated sonar data enables ...
Direct writing technology on the silicon wafer surface is used to reduce the size of the chip as the miniature trend in electronic circuit. In order to improve the productivity and efficiency, the real time quality estimation is very important in each semiconductor process. In laser marking, marking quality is determined by readability which is dependant on the contrast of surface, the line width, and the melting depth. Many researchers have tried to find theoretical and numerical estimation models fur groove geometry. However, these models are limited to be applied to the real system. In this study, the estimation system for the line width during the laser marking was proposed by process monitoring method. The light intensity emitted by plasma which is produced when irradiating the laser to the silicon wafer was measured using the optical sensor. Because the laser marking is too fast to measure with external sensor, we build up the coaxial monitoring system. Analysis for the correlation between the acquired signals and the line width according to the change of laser power was carried out. Also, we developed the models enabling the estimation of line width of the laser marking through the statistical regression models and may see that their estimating performances were excellent.
