  • Cosmology is entering an era of percent precision with large surveys, demanding accurate simulations. In this paper, we aim to study the effects of initial conditions on the results of cosmological simulations, which will help us to make percent-level accuracy simulations. For this purpose, we use a series of cosmological N-body simulations with varying initial conditions. We test the influence of the initial conditions, namely the pre-initial configuration (preIC), the order of the perturbation theory, and the initial redshift, on the statistics associated with the large scale structures of the universe such as the halo mass function, the density power spectrum, and the maximal extent of the large scale structures. We find that glass or grid pre-initial conditions give similar results. However, the order of the Lagrangian perturbation theory used to generate the initial conditions and the starting epoch of the simulations play a crucial role, especially at high redshift (z ~ 2-4). The initial conditions have to be chosen with care, taking into account the specificity of the simulation.

  • In these days, large structures are constructed and bonded with ground grid Because the distances between mesh and auxiliary electrodes are not enough in downtown areas, it is very difficult to measure the ground resistance of large scale grounding electrode systems. Actually the auxiliary electrodes for test are installed in grounding grid. This paper present the experimental results of ground resistance and impedance according to the location of auxiliary electrode. As a result, we get much lower resistances and impedances than real values the auxiliary electrodes are placed in the ground grid. In case that the auxiliary electrodes are located in the ground grid the resistances are very low and reactance only is inductive component.

  • In this study, the load transfer characteristics of the base and skin of drilled shafts were analyzed and the load sharing ratio was calculated by performing a load transfer large-scale model test and three-dimensional numerical analysis considering the similarity of drilled shafts, which is the design target. From the linear behavior of drilled shafts shown in the large-scale model test and 3D numerical analysis results, the skin load transition curve for the design conditions of this study was proposed by Baquelin et al., and the base load transition curve was proposed by Baquelin et al. For the horizontal load transition curve, the formula proposed by Reese et al. was confirmed to be appropriate. The test value was slightly larger than the numerical analysis value for the axial load at the rock socketing, but the load sharing ratio at the rock socketing increased, on average, about 27.8% as the vertical load increased. The analysis value of the vertical settlement of the pile head under the vertical load was evaluated to be slightly smaller than the test value, and the maximum vertical settlement of the pile head in the model test and analysis maximum vertical load was 10.6 mm in the test value and 10.0 mm in the analysis value, and the maximum vertical settlement value at the base of the pile was found to be a test value of 2.0 mm and an analysis value of 1.9 mm. The horizontal displacement at the head of the column (ground surface) and the head of the pile during the horizontal load was found to agree relatively well with the test value and the analysis value. As a result of the model soil test, the horizontal load measured at the maximum horizontal displacement of 38.0 mm was evaluated to be 24,713 kN, and the horizontal load in the numerical analysis was evaluated to be 26,073 kN.

  • The objective of this study is to provide the information on the manufacturing and exper- , ructures. imental techniques of small scale modeling of precast concrete(P.C.) large panel :-t The ad~~pted scale was one-fifth. 4 types of experiments were performed : nlaterial tests for model concrete and model reinforcement, compressive test of horizontal joint, shear test of vertical joint and cyclic static test of 2-story subassemblage structure. Based on the experimental results, the following conclusions are drawn : i 1) Model concrete had in general larger compressive strength than expected. (2) Model reinforcement showed less ductility if the annealing processes were performed without using vaccuum tube. 131 Failure niotles of horizontal and vertical joints were almost same for both prototype and model. But the strength of model appears to be higher than required by similitude law. (41 Hysteretic behavior of 1 /T, scale subassemblage model can be made quite similar to that of prototype if the ductility of model reinforcement and compressive strength of model concrete could be representative of those of prototype.

  • In this study, a resonant column testing system which is the largest in Korea has been developed to evaluate the dynamic deformation characteristics of coarse granular geomaterials, and the performance and the applicability of the testing system have been verified. The system has been developed as a typical Stokoe type device whose boundary conditions are fixed bottom and free top with additional mass, and can adopt a large specimen with 200 mm in diameter and 400 mm in height. The driving and measurement instruments are configured as high performance and precision systems, hence the automated testing system is appropriate to drive enough stress and to measure the behavior precisely for the test in practical manner. The dynamic response of the mechanical components and the applicability of the system have been evaluated using metal specimens as well as polyurethane specimens, and its precision was verified by comparing its results with those from other equipment and/or methods. To confirm the applicability of the large system for coarse geomaterials, the resonant column test results from both large and normal scale apparatus for the same material were compared and it was found that the result can be partially affected by scale. Finally, the dynamic deformation characteristics of coarse geomaterial which is used for construction of large dam was evaluated using the large system and its practicality could be confirmed.

  • Knowledge of ground thermal properties is most important for the proper design of large scale BHE(borehole heat exchanger) systems. The type, pipe size and thermal performance of the BHE is highly dependent on the ground source heatpump system-efficiency and instruction cost. Thermal response tests with mobile measurement devices were developed primarily for insitu determination of design data for large diameter BHE for triple-U spacer apply. The main purpose has been to determine insitu values of effective ground thermal conductivity and thermal resistance, including the effect of ground-water flow and natural convection in the boreholes. The test rig is set up on a some trailer, and contains a circulation pump, a inline heater, temperature sensors, flow meter, power analysis meter and a data logger for recording the temperature, fluid flow data. A constant heat power is injected into the borehole through the tripl-U pipes system of test rig and the resulting temperature change in the borehole is recorded. The recorded temperature data are analysed with a line-source model, which gives the effective insitu values of rock thermal conductivity and borehole thermal resistance of large diameter BHE for spacer apply.

  • Recently, many organizations such as companies or institutions have demanded induction of very large-scale workflow management system in order to process a large number of business-instances. Workflow-related vendors have focused on physical extension of workflow engines based on device-level clustering, so as to provide very large-scale workflow services. Performance improvement of workflow engine by simple physical-connection among computer systems which don't consider logical-level software architecture lead to wastes of time and cost for construction of very large-scale workflow service environment. In this paper, we propose methodology for performance improvement based on logical software architectures of workflow engine. We also evaluate scalable performance between workflow engines using the activity instance based architecture and workcase based architecture, our proposed architecture. Through analysis of this test's result, we can observe that software architectures to be applied on a workflow engine have an effect on scalable performance.

  • In this paper, an evolution of software reliability engineering in a large-scale software project is summarized. The considered software consists of many components, called functional blocks in software of switching system. These functional blocks are served as the unit of coding and test, and the software is continuously updated by adding new functional blocks. We are mainly concerned with the analysis of the effects of these software components in software reliability and reliability evolution. We analyze the static characteristics of the software related to software reliability using collected failure data during system test. We also discussed a pattern which represents a local and global growth of the software reliability as version evolves. To find the pattern of system software, we apply the S-shaped model to a collection of failure data sets of each evolutionary version and the Goel-Okumoto(G-O) model to a grouped overall failure data set. We expect this pattern analysis will be helpful to plan and manage necessary human/resources fur a new similar software project which is developed under the same developing circumstances by estimating the total software failures with respect to its size and time.
