Recently, precision guided munition systems and missile defense systems based on GPS have been taking a key role in modern warfare. In warfare however, unexpected interferences cause by large/small scale fading, radio frequency interferences, etc. These interferences result in a severe GPS positioning error, which could occur late supports and friendly fires. To solve the problems, this paper proposes an interference mitigation positioning method by adopting a wavelet denoising filter algorithm. The algorithm is applied to a GPS/QZSS/Wi-Fi combined positioning system which was performed by this laboratory. Experimental results of this paper are based on a real field test data of a GPS/QZSS/Wi-Fi combined positioning system and a simulation data of a wavelet denoising filter algorithm. At the end, the simulation result demonstrates its superiority by showing a 21.6% improved result in comparison to a conventional GPS system.

In this paper, we consider a power re-allocation technique in order to enhance the frequency efficiency of the low performance user in a cell-free multiple input multiple output (MIMO) network. The AP first allocates transmit power to the user to be proportional to the large-scale fading coefficients of the connected users. Then, the AP reduces the power of the users who were allocated power greater than the threshold ratio of total allocated power to be equal to the threshold ratio of the allocated power. Finally, the AP re-allocates the reduced power from the strong channel user to the user who has the worst channel condition, and thus, the frequency efficiency of the low performance user can be enhanced. In the simulation results, we verify the performance of the power re-allocation technique in terms of the spectral efficiency of the low performance user.
We consider an overlaid broadcast service, where a spread spectrum (SS)-based broadcast signal is overlaid onto the existing terrestrial Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (T-DMB) band. The system is similar to the augmented data transmission in the ATSC DTV, for which it was investigated mostly in terms of link level performance, such as bit error rate. Our focus in this paper is on the system-level performances. More specifically, utilizing both a large scale path loss and a small scale fading channel model, the primary objective is to explore the tradeoff between the coverage and the achievable rate of the overlaid service and, finally, to determine the achievable rate in the overlaid service for marginal coverage reduction in the existing broadcast service. The analytical and simulation results show that an SS-based add-on service of 10 kbps to 20 kbps can co-exist with the T-DMB service while resulting in only a marginal degradation in T-DMB coverage (for example, less than one percent reduction).

The core of cognitive radio is the problem concerning intelligent decision-making for communication parameters, the objective of which is to find the most appropriate parameter configuration to optimize transmission performance. The current algorithms have the disadvantages of high dependence on prior knowledge, large amount of calculation, and high complexity. We propose a new decision-making model by making full use of the interactivity of reinforcement learning (RL) and applying the Q-learning algorithm. By simplifying the decision-making process, we avoid large-scale RL, reduce complexity and improve timeliness. The proposed model is able to find the optimal waveform parameter configuration for the communication system in complex channels without prior knowledge. Moreover, this model is more flexible than previous decision-making models. The simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of our model. The model not only exhibits better decision-making performance in the AWGN channels than the traditional method, but also make reasonable decisions in the fading channels.

In heterogeneous networks, the almost blank subframes (ABS) for inter-cell interference coordination (ICIC), which can be protected from the CCI due to unutilized subframes (i.e., ABS) is proposed. However, the analytical model for ABS-based systems has not been fully studied yet. In this paper, we derive a new analytical model to evaluate the performance of ABS-based systems. In an analytic model, we assume that each carrier in multicarrier systems, such as in OFDMA, is subject to large-scale fading, which is independent of other carriers. As a performance measure, we present the cumulative distribution function (CDF) for the effective SINR. We show the accuracy of the analytical model via simulation results.

In evaluating the performance of a dual-hop wireless link, the effects of large and small scale fading has to be considered. To overcome this fading effect, several schemes, such as multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) with orthogonal space time block codes (OSTBC), different combining schemes at the relay and receiving end, and orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) are used in both the transmitting and the relay links. In this paper, we first make compare the performance of a two-hop wireless link under a different combination of space diversity in the first and second hop of the amplify-and-forward (AF) case. Our second task in this paper is to incorporate the weak signal of a direct link and then by applying the channel model of two random variables (one for a direct link and another for a relayed link) we get very impressive result at a low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) that is comparable with other models at a higher SNR. Our third task is to bring other three schemes under a two-hop wireless link: use of transmit antenna selection (TAS) on both link with weak direct link, distributed Alamouti scheme in two-hop link and single relay antenna with OFDM subcarrier. Finally, all of the schemes mentioned above are compared to select the best possible model. The main finding of the paper is as follows: the use of MIMO on both hops but application TAS on both links with weak direct link and the full rate OFDM with the sub-carrier for an individual link provide a better result as compared to other models.

Recently silicon has attracted intense interest as a promising anode material of lithium-ion batteries due to its extremely high capacity of 4200 mA/g (for Li4.2Si) that is much higher than 372 mAh/g (for LiC6) of graphite. However, it seriously suffers from large volume change (even up to 300%) of the electrode upon lithiation, leading to its pulverization or mechanical failure during lithiation/delithiation processes and the rapid capacity fading. To overcome this problem, Si nanowires have been considered. Use of such Si nanowires provides their facile relaxation during lithiation/delithiation without mechanical breaking. To design better Si electrodes, a study to unveil atomic-scale mechanisms involving the volume expansion and the phase transformation upon lithiation is critical. In order to investigate the lithiation mechanism in Si nanowires, we have developed a reactive force field (ReaxFF) for Si-Li systems based on density functional theory calculations. The ReaxFF method provides a highly transferable simulation method for atomistic scale simulation on chemical reactions at the nanosecond and nanometer scale. Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations with the ReaxFF reproduces well experimental anisotropic volume expansion of Si nanowires during lithiation and diffusion behaviors of lithium atoms, indicating that it would be definitely helpful to investigate lithiation mechanism of Si electrodes and then design new Si electrodes.

In indoor environment, the combination of the two variations, large scale(path loss) and small scale(fading), leads to non-linear variation of RSSI(received signal strength indicator) values as distance varied. This has been one of the difficulties for indoor location estimation. This paper presents new findings on indoor RSSI characterization for more accurate model building. Experiments have been done statistically to find overall trend of RSSI values at different places and times within the same room. From experiments, it has been shown that the variation of RSSI values can be determined by both spatial and temporal factors. These two factors are directly indicated by the two main parameters of path loss model. The results show that all sensor nodes which are located at different places share the same characterization value for the temporal parameter whereas different values for the spatial parameters. The temporal parameter also has a large scale variation effect that is slowly time varying due to environmental changes. Using this relationship, the characterization for location estimation can be more efficient and accurate.

In practical wireless systems, the erroneous channel state information (CSI) sometimes deteriorates the performance drastically. This paper focuses on robust design of coordinated set planning of coordinated multi-point (CoMP) transmission, with respect to the feedback delay and link error. The non-ideal channel models involving various uncertainty conditions are given. After defining a penalty factor, the robust net ergodic capacity optimization problem is derived, whose variables to be optimized are the number of coordinated base stations (BSs) and the divided area's radius. By the maximum minimum criterion, upper and lower bounds of the robust capacity are investigated. A practical scheme is proposed to determine the optimal number of cooperative BSs. The simulation results indicate that the robust design based on maxmin principle is better than other precoding schemes. The gap between two bounds gets smaller as transmission power increases. Besides, as the large scale fading is higher or the channel is less reliable, the number of the cooperated BSs shall be greater.

For massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) circumstances with time division duplex (TDD) protocol, pilot contamination becomes one of main system performance bottlenecks. This paper proposes an uplink pilot sequence assignment to alleviate this problem for spatially correlated massive MIMO circumstances. Firstly, a single-cell TDD massive MIMO model with multiple terminals in the cell is established. Then a spatial correlation between two channel response vectors is established by the large-scale fading variables and the angle of arrival (AOA) span with an infinite number of base station (BS) antennas. With this spatially correlated channel model, the expression for the achievable system capacity is derived. To optimize the achievable system capacity, a problem regarding uplink pilot assignment is proposed. In view of the exponential complexity of the exhaustive search approach, a pilot assignment algorithm corresponding to the distinct channel AOA intervals is proposed to approach the optimization solution. In addition, simulation results prove that the main pilot assignment algorithm in this paper can obtain a noticeable performance gain with limited BS antennas.
