  • This study was conducted to mass-produce brown stock optimized by using a high-pressure heating extractor and to use brown stock as a material for developing various products. For these purposes, we attempted to produce standardized brown stock by extracting brown stock using a high-pressure heating extractor and compared it with brown stock extracted by the traditional method in terms of general elements and mechanical and sensory characteristics. With regard to how to prepare optimal brown stock, the best brown stock was that extracted seven times repeatedly by the traditional method, but the method had a large economic loss in terms of material consumption and took a long time in extraction. Thus, considering time and labor, it was concluded that extraction at 120$^{\circ}C$ for 15 hours using a high-pressure heating extractor is the optimal extraction condition in terms of economic efficiency and quality. The results of this study are expected to be useful as a practical material for making brown stock production process more convenient, applying cooks' traditional cooking techniques to mass production, maintaining standardized superior quality and taste, and improving shelf life.

  • As the concrete structure being large-sized and/or high-strengthened, the control of the hydration and curing temperature is made much account. This study, analysing the concrete temperature history from cylindric specimen and mock-up structures, investigates the effect of the early age curing condition and the optimum method of curing temperature control on mass concrete.

  • This paper is presented that theoretical optimization design method in order to consider mass reduction for the structural safety In this paper, it described methods for reducing vibration in structural safety by the determination of the optimum sizes and locations of tunning masses through formal mathematical optimization techniques. The optimization procedure which employs the tunning masses and corresponding locations is developed. Design variables are systematically changed to achieve low values of shear without a large mass penalty. Three optimization methods ire developed and tested. The first is based on minimizing the modal shaping parameter which indirectly reduce the modal shear amplitudes corresponding to each harmonic of airload. The second method reduces these amplitudes directly and the third method reduces the shear as a function of time during a revolution of the blade. The first method works well for reducing the shear for one mode responding to a single harmonic of the airload but has been found in some bases to be ineffective for more than one mode.

  • After success of sildenafil for the treatment of erectile dysfunction, a large number of its analogues have been approved from FDA. Recently, the illegal dietary supplements which include sildenafil, vardenafil, tadalafil, or analogues of these drugs as ingredient have been widely distributed. Therefore, the determination of the residue of synthetic phosphodiesterase- 5 (PDE-5) inhibitors in dietary supplements is highly required due to indiscriminate and unintentional overdose caused nausea, chest pains, fainting and irregular heartbeat. In this paper, we report a rapid and sensitive analytical method for the simultaneous determination of nine phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors by liquid chromatography-high resolution mass spectrometry. The present method was found to be accurate and reproducible with 40 ${\mu}g$/g of the limit of quantification for the nine PDE-5 inhibitors. The developed method can be successfully applied to the analysis of the seven illegal dietary supplements.

  • A total of 41 Salmonella (S.) strains were isolated from pigs suffered with severe watery diarrhea and were tried to identify by both matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization-time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) analysis. Fibrinous exudate and ulceration in the large intestine were prevalent in gross observation, and variable degrees of enteritis were observed in the histology of large intestines. Subsequent polymerase chain reaction (PCR) analyses demonstrated that 41 strains were identified as S. Typhimurium (39 strains), though 2 stains were failed to identify. Further identification was performed using both direct smear and protein extraction method by MALDI-TOF MS analyses. In terms of extraction methods, 100% (41/41) of isolates were identified to species level of S. spp. Whereas only 43.9% (18/41) were identified to species level using the direct method. These results thus suggest that rapid and accurate diagnosis of porcine salmonellosis can be guaranteed by MALDI-TOF MS combined with protein extraction method.

  • This work developed improved slip factor model and correction method to predict flow through impeller in forward-curved centrifugal fan. Both steady and unsteady three-dimensional CFD analyses were performed to validate the slip factor model and the correction method. The results show that the improved slip factor model presented in this paper could provide more accurate predictions for forward-curved centrifugal impeller than the other slip factor models since the present model takes into account the effect of blade curvature. The correction method is provided to predict mass-averaged absolute circumferential velocity at the exit of impeller by taking account of blockage effects induced by the large-scale backflow near the front plate and flow separation within blade passage. The comparison with CFD results also shows that the improved slip factor model coupled with the present correction method provides accurate predictions for mass-averaged absolute circumferential velocity at the exit of impeller near and above the flow rate of peak total pressure coefficient.

  • This paper presents the effect of a reflective force computed from a first-order-hold method on the stability of a haptic system. A haptic system is composed of a haptic device with a mass and a damper, a virtual spring, a sampler and a sample-and-hold. The boundary condition of the maximum virtual stiffness is analytically derived by using the Routh-Hurwitz criterion and the condition shows that the maximum virtual stiffness is proportional to the square root of the mass and the damper of a haptic device and also is inversely proportional to the sampling time to the power of three over two. The effectiveness of the derived condition is evaluated by the simulation. When the reflective forces are computed by using the first-order-hold method, the maximum available stiffness to guarantee the stability is increased several hundred times as large as when the zero-order-hold method is applied.

  • This study was intended to determine the inertia , damping and stiffness properties of the cab-suspension of agricultural tractors by applying the direct system identification method (DSIM). Since the rigid and elastic modes of the cab-suspension are not likely to be separated clearly, direct application of the DSIM may result in large computation error. To solve such a problem, a method of locating mass center of the cab were determined by assuming the behavior of the cab-suspension is a rigid body motion. The dynamic parameters of the cab-suspension were then determined by applying the DSIM with the known coordinates of the mass center. The constraints of spatial matrices of the cab-suspension also make the algorithm for the DSIM perform better. The values of dynamic parameters determined by this method agreed well with those determined by the experiment.

  • Effective methods for monitoring the quality of polycrystalline silicon (poly-Si) films are discussed. Raman spectroscopy is typically used to determine crystallinity of poly-Si, but this method has limitations for data gathering on large substrates for mass production of poly-Si TFT backplanes. Spectroscopic ellipsometry is proposed as an alternative for fast and simple estimation of poly-Si quality on large substrates. By using both ellipsometry and Raman spectroscopy, it is possible to determine whether the quality and uniformity of the poly-Si films meet the criteria required for mass production of TFT backplanes for AMOLED panels.

  • Matrix-induced mass bias and its effect on the accuracy of isotope ratio measurements have been examined for a quadrupole-based inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometer (Q ICP-MS). Matrix-induced mass bias effect was directly proportional to % mass difference, and its magnitude varied for element and nebulizer flow rate. For a given element and conditions in a day, the effect was consistent. The isotope ratio of Cd106/Cd114 under $200{\mu}g\;g^{-1}$ U matrix deviated from the natural value significantly by 3.5%. When Cd 111 and Cd114 were used for the quantification of Cd with isotope dilution (ID) method, the average of differences between the calculated and measured concentrations was -0.034% for samples without matrix ($0.076{\mu}g\;g^{-1}$ to $0.21{\mu}g\;g^{-1}$ for the period of 6 months). However, the error was as large as 1.5% for samples with $200{\mu}g\;g^{-1}$ U. The error in ID caused by matrix could be larger when larger mass difference isotopes are used.
