  • The purpose of this study is to examine the factors that are associated with a child's development within a multi-cultural family, taking into account the factors that influence the child's language ability and their play interactions with their mothers. First, there was no significant difference in the children's language ability based on the child's gender, or based on the language in which the mother communicated with her children. However there were significant differences depending on the children's age, the mother's native country, and the period of time the mother had lived in Korea. Second, there was no significant difference in the child-mother play interaction based on the children's age, gender, the mother's native country, the period of time the mother has lived in Korea, or the language in which the mother communicated with her children. However, the boys showed a more hostile attitude toward their mothers, in comparison to the girls. In conclusion, it can be said that there is an urgent need for comprehensive social support services and policies for the overall development of multi-cultural children, especially through programs for children and mothers.

  • This article reports some Korean EFL learners' cognitive tendencies drawn up from their responses to logical fallacies in the argument passages, and its pedagogical implications. The findings of experimental study show the meaningful disparities in three sets of judgment tests designed to identify and explicate faulty arguments: based on the three general types of fallacies using language, emotions, and distraction tactics, subjects on average gained the highest scores in the test questions with language-loaded fallacies and the lowest scores in those with emotion-based ones among the three different types; for this reason, the scores that subjects obtained in the test of distraction-loaded fallacious arguments fell in between the two poles. These discrepancies, mainly based on statistical inferences, support the possibility that the Korean EFL learners are most likely to be manipulated by emotions/distraction- loaded argument tactics than by language-based ones in the three types of fallacious arguments; and, they are least likely to be influenced by language-oriented trickeries. As a consequence, such variances in abilities to recognize the intrinsic elements of logical fallacies suggest some basic instructional approaches to critical reading of argumentative texts with due weights on the Korean EFL learners' culture-specific cognitive tendencies.

  • This paper explores some possible interpretations of subject/object in child language, pointing out some potential problems in recent works within the minimalist framework and suggesting different views on it. Particularly, we will focus on how to identify and/or license objects, since most of the studies relevant to this issue have accounted for subjects only. Discussing the results of the studies on child language data, we will show that previous syntactic explanations on subjects, which have seemed quite attractive and refined, may not hold when accounting for objects and various aspects and properties of arguments in those child languages. In doing so, we will suggest and support a performance-based account, a discourse-based account, and a markedness account.

  • The Unified Modeling Language(UML) became the standard object oriented modeling language approved by Object Management Group(OMG). However, C++ codes which are generated by some CASE tools supporting UML do not reflect the correct semantics of one-to-many relationship and aggregation relationship. Additionally, since the commercial CASE tools support too many programming languages on one UML class diagram, they do not support efficiently the characteristics of C++ language. Our C++ code generator supports one-to-many relationship, aggregation relationship, code patterns and design patterns. In this paper, we describe design and implementation of the efficient C++ code generator based on UML class diagram.

  • This research aims at exploring what Korean teachers of English need for their effective professional development, particularly from the perspectives of peer trainers who are school teachers as well as teacher trainers. The research is based on an assumption that despite the critical roles of peer trainers in the changing process of English education, very little attention has been paid to listening to their voices. Having an awareness of the meaningfulness of their voices in teacher education, the researcher collected and analyzed the data, employing a questionnaire responded by 32 peer trainers and in-depth group interview with 6 peer trainers who responded the questionnaire. The research findings suggest that the majority of peer trainers believe that the priority should be put on teaching practice rather than language competence for Korean English language teacher development. It has been found that they believe that teacher learning within the workplace with some support from outside experts is the most effective way of making classroom change possible and keeping teachers' professional development sustainable. Finally, the research suggests school-based professional development as an alternative strategy to satisfy their needs on effective and sustainable professional development.

  • This study aims at reviewing differences of awareness toward speech-language therapy according to background variables of child-care teachers, and establishing a basic data necessary for special education support programs afterwards based on child-care centers and its characteristics with the results. Researcher carried out a survey by objecting child-care teachers of Chungcheongbuk-do, Korea, and looked into existence of some differences through SPSS 20.0 for Window, independent sample t-Test, ANOVA, Scheffe post verification on background characteristics such as level of education, working career, license grade, whether or not to have objects of speech-language objects in the class. Research results are same as follows. First, significant differences in awareness of child-care teachers toward speech-language therapy appeared from license grade among characteristics like level of education, license grade, whether or not to have objects of speech-language therapy in the class. Second, significant differences were displayed from whether or not to have objects of speech-language therapy in the class among characteristics such as level of education, working career, license grade, and whether or not to have objects of speech-language therapy. When putting these results together, a conclusion could be made such like awareness of child-care teachers toward speech-language therapy and therapists is able to be different a little according to background variables of teachers.

  • Software inspection is widely believed to be an effective method for software verification and validation (V&V). However, software inspection is labor-intensive and, since it uses little technology, software inspection is viewed upon as unsuitable for a more technology-oriented development environment. Nevertheless, software inspection is gaining in popularity. KAIST Nuclear I&C and Information Engineering Laboratory (NICIEL) has developed software management and inspection support tools, collectively named "SIS-RT. "SIS-RT is designed to partially automate the software inspection processes. SIS-RT supports the analyses of traceability between a given set of specification documents. To make SIS-RT compatible for documents written in Korean, certain techniques in natural language processing have been studied [9]. Among the techniques considered, case grammar is most suitable for analyses of the Korean language [3]. In this paper, we propose a methodology that uses a case grammar approach to analyze the traceability between documents written in Korean. A discussion regarding some examples of such an analysis will follow.

  • There has been a growing interest in programming education recently. However, to use most programming languages the corresponding compiler and IDE have to be installed on computers. To tackle this issue, though there developed several web-based programming environment including Eclipse Che and JDOODLE, most of them does not support GUI nor Korean programming languages. This paper proposes a web-based programming environment called Bombart, which supports Saesark, a Korean programming language, with GUI output. It also supports a console-based input and output. To support both kinds of interfaces, two compiling subsystems are designed and implemented. To test the effectiveness of the GUI support of Bombart, all the Java tutorial codes on GUI are translated into Saesark and executed on top of Bombart. According to this test, 81.42% of codes can be successfully converted and executed.
