High resolution satellite image analysis has been recognized as an effective technique for monitoring local land-cover and atmospheric changes. In this study, a new high resolution map for land-cover was generated using both high-resolution IKONOS image and conventional land-use mapping. Fuzzy classification method was applied to classify land-cover, with minimum operator used as a tool for joint membership functions. In separateness analysis, the values were not great for all bands due to discrepancies in spectral reflectance by seasonal variation. The land-cover map generated in this study revealed that conifer forests and farm land in the ground and tidal flat and beach in the ocean were highly changeable. The kappa coefficient was 0.94% and the overall accuracy of classification was 95.0%, thus suggesting a overall high classification accuracy. Accuracy of classification in each class was generally over 90%, whereas low classification accuracy was obtained for classes of mixed forest, river and reservoir. This may be a result of the changes in classification, e.g. reclassification of paddy field as water area after water storage or mixed use of several classification class due to similar spectral patterns. Seasonal factors should be considered to achieve higher accuracy in classification class. In conclusion, firstly, IKONOS image are used to generated a new improved high resolution land-cover map. Secondly, IKONOS image could serve as useful complementary data for decision making when combined with GIS spatial data to produce land-use map.
Based on the Chinese resource and environment database, and using the Landsat TM and ETM data acquired in 1990 and 2000 respectively, the spatial-temporal characteristics of land use/cover changes in the Dongting lake area of central China was analyzed. The result showed that cultivated land decreased by 0.57% of total cultivated land. Built -up land and water area expanded, with an increase of 8.97% and 0.43% respectively. 94 percent of the cropland decreased was changed into water (mostly to fishpond) and built-up areas. Land-use changed most quickly in cities, and the slowest in the north and east of the study area.
Compact Airborne Spectrographic Imager (CASI) hyperspectral imagery was acquired over the Little Miami River Watershed (1756 square miles) in Ohio, U.S.A., which is one of the largest hyperspectral image acquisition. For the development of a 4m-resolution land cover dataset, a hierarchical approach was employed using two different classification algorithms: 'Image Object Segmentation' for level-1 and 'Spectral Angle Mapper' for level-2. This classification scheme was developed to overcome the spectral inseparability of urban and rural features and to deal with radiometric distortions due to cross-track illumination. The land cover class members were lentic, lotic, forest, corn, soybean, wheat, dry herbaceous, grass, urban barren, rural barren, urban/built, and unclassified. The final phase of processing was completed after an extensive Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) phase. With respect to the eleven land cover class members, the overall accuracy with a total of 902 reference points was 83.9% at 4m resolution. The dataset is available for public research, and applications of this product will represent an improvement over more commonly utilized data of coarser spatial resolution such as National Land Cover Data (NLCD).

The purpose of the study is to analyze the effect of urbanization, the degree of development in urban scale and the comparative analysis of landuse change in order to construct the important basic data for establishing development direction and characterizing each city. To analyze the urban growth patterns a land cover classification using Landsat TM data was performed : 1987 and 1997 for the change detection of each land cover. The results of this study demonstrates that urban areas increased on while forest areas had decreased all over the Korean cities. Especially, in case of the analysis on landuse conversion rate, we found out that the forest areas was first changed into agricultural areas, then it is consequently developed into urban areas in most rural areas. This study concludes that the insufficiency of the number of knowledged officials in the local administration and a government official in one's charge, tight financial conditions and absence of recognition of cities' characteristics, urban development following unrefined development patterns, inappropriate urban planning and policy of metropolitan cities and the negligence of peculiar development patterns of each city.
In this study, visible and near infrared channels of NOAA/AVHRR data were used to classify land use and vegetation types over Korean peninsula. Analyzing forest stand structures and prediction of forest productivity using satellite data were also reviewed. Land use and land cover classification was made by unsupervised clustering methods. After monthly Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) composite images were derived from April to November 1998, the derived composite images were used as temporal feature vector's in this clustering analysis. Visually interpreted, the classification result was satisfactory in overall for it matched well with the general land cover patterns. But subclassification of forests into coniferous, deciduous, and mixed forests were much confused due to the effects of low ground resolution of AVHRR data and without defined classification scheme. To investigate into the forest stand structures, digital forest type maps were used as an ancillary data. Forest type maps, which were compiled and digitalized by Forestry Research Institute, were registered to AVHRR image coordinates. Two data sets were compared and percent forest cover over whole region was estimated by multiple regression analysis. Using this method, other forest stand structure characteristics within the primary data pixels are expected to be extracted and estimated.
We investigated the accuracy of surface air temperature prediction according to the selection of land-use data and initial meteorological data using the Weather Research and Forecasting model-v4.2.1. A numerical experiment was conducted at the Daegu Dyeing Industrial Complex. We initially used meteorological input data from GFS (Global forecast system)and GDAPS (Global data assimilation and prediction system). High-resolution input data were generated and used as input data for the weather model using the land cover data of the Ministry of Environment and the digital elevation model of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport. The experiment was conducted by classifying the terrestrial and topographic data (land cover data) and meteorological data applied to the model. For simulations using high-resolution terrestrial data(10 m), global data assimilation, and prediction system data(CASE 3), the calculated surface temperature was much closer to the automatic weather station observations than for simulations using low-resolution terrestrial data(900 m) and GFS(CASE 1).

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the compatibility of the vegetation index between the two satellites and the applicability of agricultural monitoring by comparing and verifying NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) based on Sentinel-2 and Terra MODIS (Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer). Terra MODIS NDVI utilized 16-day MOD13Q1 data with 250 m spatial resolution, and Sentinel-2 NDVI utilized 10-day Level-2A BOA (Bottom Of Atmosphere) data with 10 m spatial resolution. To compare both NDVI, Sentinel-2 NDVIs were reproduced at 16-day intervals using the MVC (Maximum Value Composite) technique. As a result of time series NDVIs based on two satellites for 2019 and compare by land cover, the average R2 (Coefficient of determination) and RMSE (Root Mean Square Error) of the entire land cover were 0.86 and 0.11, which indicates that Sentinel-2 NDVI and MODIS NDVI had a high correlation. MODIS NDVI is overestimated than Sentinel-2 NDVI for all land cover due to coarse spatial resolution. The high-resolution Sentinel-2 NDVI was found to reflect the characteristics of each land cover better than the MODIS NDVI because it has a higher discrimination ability for subdivided land cover and land cover with a small area range.
This paper has dealt with a data fusion for the problem of land-cover classification using multisensor imagery. Dempster-Shafer evidence theory has been employed to combine the information extracted from the multiple data of same site. The Dempster-Shafer's approach has two important advantages for remote sensing application: one is that it enables to consider a compound class which consists of several land-cover types and the other is that the incompleteness of each sensor data due to cloud-cover can be modeled for the fusion process. The image classification based on the Dempster-Shafer theory usually assumes that each sensor is represented by a single channel. The evidential approach to image classification, which utilizes a mass function obtained under the assumption of class-independent beta distribution, has been discussed for the multiple sets of mutichannel data acquired from different sensors. The proposed method has applied to the KOMPSAT-1 EOC panchromatic imagery and LANDSAT ETM+ data, which were acquired over Yongin/Nuengpyung area of Korean peninsula. The experiment has shown that it is greatly effective on the applications in which it is hard to find homogeneous regions represented by a single land-cover type in training process.

This research is aimed at evaluating the land surface characterization of KOMPSAT-3A middle infrared (MIR) data. Airborne Hyperspectral Scanner (AHS) data, which has MIR bands with high spatial resolution, were used to assess land surface temperature (LST) retrieval and classification accuracy of MIR bands. Firstly, LST values for daytime and nighttime, which were calculated with AHS thermal infrared (TIR) bands, were compared to digital number of AHS MIR bands. The determination coefficient of AHS band 68 (center wavelength $4.64{\mu}m$) was over 0.74, and was higher than other MIR bands. Secondly, The land cover maps were generated by unsupervised classification methods using the AHS MIR bands. Each class of land cover maps for daytime, such as water, trees, green grass, roads, roofs, was distinguished well. But some classes of land cover maps for nighttime, such as trees versus green grass, roads versus roofs, were not separated. The image classification using the difference images between daytime AHS MIR bands and nighttime AHS MIR bands were conducted to enhance the discrimination ability of land surface for AHS MIR imagery. The classification accuracy of the land cover map for zone 1 and zone 2 was 67.5%, 64.3%, respectively. It was improved by 10% compared to land cover map of daytime AHS MIR bands and night AHS MIR bands. Consequently, new algorithm based on land surface characteristics is required for temperature retrieval of high resolution MIR imagery, and the difference images between daytime and nighttime was considered to enhance the ability of land surface characterization using high resolution MIR data.
Yangon city is experienced a rapid urban expansion over the last two decades due to accelerate with the socioeconomic development. This research work studied an investigation into the application of the integration of the Remote Sensing (RS) and Geographic Information System (GIS) for observing Land Use and Land Cover (LULC) patterns and evaluate its impact on Land Surface Temperature (LST) of the downtown, suburban 1 and suburban 2 of Yangon city. The main purpose of this paper was to examine and analyze the variation of the spatial distribution property of the LULC of urban spatial information related with the LST and Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) using RS and GIS. This paper was observed on image processing of LULC classification, LST and NDVI were extracted from Landsat 8 Operational Land Imager (OLI) image data. Then, LULC pattern was linked with the variation of LST data of the Yangon area for the further connection of the correlation between surface temperature and urban structure. As a result, NDVI values were used to examine the relation between thermal behavior and condition of land cover categories. The spatial distribution of LST has been found mixed pattern and higher LST was located with the scatter pattern, which was related to certain LULC types within downtown, suburban 1 and 2. The result of this paper, LST and NDVI analysis exhibited a strong negative correlation without water bodies for all three portions of Yangon area. The strongest coefficient correlation was found downtown area (-0.8707) and followed suburban 1 (-0.7526) and suburban 2(-0.6923).
